Thinking of setting up a new Beam Boat on my romulan character. It'll probably go on a scimitar eventually, but for now I'm just choosing the gear to set out for. I've always used Romulan Plasma on my fed char and get 20-25k on her Fleet Assault Cruiser with that. With the rommy I'm leaning towards Antiproton and have a decent set of UR crafted ones ready to upgrade to MK XIII/XIV come DR.
My question is this - is the AP 2 set bonus worth getting? That warp core is absolute trash, and I'm not sure I want the 360 beam - dunno if it benefits from FAW and the like. Opinions?
Even without the 2 piece Obelisk AP bonus, AP still works out very well on a good Warbird build. Roms by nature easily achieve very good CritH and Crit Severity due to Romulan Operative trait (specifically Superior version). That means you can probably squeeze in more crit severity in the build, like in weapon mods, that non-Roms would need to stuff in crit hit just to have decent crit rates.
In short, with Roms, you have inherently good crit rates, so crit severity goes a long way for them. The natural severity regular AP weapons have is a damn good thing for them.
I'm also looking into setting up a beam/hybrid boat, mostly because I already have a fed and klink canon boats. I'll probably have an alternate loadout with cannons but I'd like to see how effective a beam boat I can get out of the Ha'fe on a Tac character.
The character is relatively new but I have three alts over lv55 and ROM/BORG Sponsorship so I kinda know my way around stuff.
Though I really honestly dont really have a good handle on what exactly to do with my skills. the plan is to get all Rom Boffs for the crit chance as well.
Also, what would be better, AP Beta or AP Delta?
Thoughts?
PS. sorry for using this thread like this, Forum thinks my 2 year old account is a newly registered one.

Assuming you mean beam arrays and not DBB here??
If you want to run a ROM AP build with the set, you have to use a lockbox ship. That is very doable --- there are many good box and lobi ships that could work.
The omni beam is as good as a beam array and does a 360. IMHO a 4/4 "cruiser" with the omni beam and borg cutting beam, one in front and one aft, is a nice build that allows you to have 5 weapons on a target no matter where it is, great for array FAW play.
AP, as said, is good with a rom no matter if you have the set or not.
In terms of raw damage, some odd ones can bubble to the top. You want a large set bonus + amped warp core, polaron with an upgraded JH 2 piece set will do it. The upgraded set is 13% damage increase and your warp core is another 12. If you focus on CRITD weapons your romulan high crit chance will turn that into a beast, and you get the benefit of doing something a little different. Also the JH deflector and engines are both quite nice at XII. I have not had time to try them at XIV yet. I do not know if the set bonus scales at XIV.
I love the DD officer layout as a solid beam boat. Its a bit slow to turn but its a solid ship. The haakona/haapax is another decent choice. Scimitar works, of course. If you want 5 tac consoles and 8 weapons, your choices are limited... there are not many 5 tac console 8 weapon (assuming you need 8 on a beam boat??) ships... the scimitar and ... the scimitar. Or a box ship ....
If you want a good DBB ship, there are several good 4/3 weapon ships that would do nicely, including the new t6 ship, it has 5 tac consoles....
This is my build atm though hopefully I'm getting the Rom experimental beam array today. As I've been unlocking traits via rep and getting better equipment I've been seeing a marked increase in the punishment the ship puts out and to a lesser degree that it can take but it is still a stupidly squishy ship and man the borg shield drain just kills me every time.
I'm still debating on the torp. It's around 23% of my DPS but I can boost my survival by a bit if I replace the skill points for projectiles into shield/hull/armor and if I replace it with the experimental beam I wont exactly lose a ton of dps since it doesn't drain weapon energy and of course then theres the two extra BOFF abilities I will have free.
Does anyone have any recommendations on engines/shields/deflector/warp core?
The Nakura deflector looks amazing though from a survival POV.
I like using Assimilated Deflectors and Engines for the 2pc set bonus which is a chance to proc a hull heal. If you arent in a fleet or even if you dont like fleets, try to get into one just long enough so you can get fleet shields and maybe a fleet amp sing core. Getting the Borg Neural Processors might be hard, unless you try to squeeze into some advanced runs that are easy to do like Advanced Cure Space. But if that is still not possible for you then yah Nukara deflectors and engines might have to do.
Also you mention the borg shield drain...which is the Borg Shield Neutralizer. You can tell when you have it if you pay attention. Usually its the cubes that put it on you, eventually you learn which cubes do it and which ones dont. It also leaves a pulsating aura on you and if you have a good ear you can even hear when it is applied to you. Save your Hazard Emitters to cleanse the Shield Neut if you know you are getting into a fight with cubes/mobs that use it. Sometimes though there isnt much you can do because in some instances like Borg Disconnected sometimes you fight multiple cubes and if you get aggro on more then one you will get multiple shield neuts.
The idea is to get the fleet one and then upgrade it. I'm atm just waiting for the nakura rep to get high enough to buy the shield or farm enough Omega to get the maco shield. I'll be able to get a fleet singularity and I might even grab a fleet shield.
I'll be able to start grabbing proper Rom space weapons tomorrow (so a nice full set of MK12 DBB).
I have a mix of various grades of Romulan operative Boffs and I have 3 green technicians for the A2B.
I'm thinking of switching TSS2 to Science Team 2 but with two tactical teams already not sure how that would work.
Any advice on skills? I still haven't remapped my skills yet.
You have a single A2B in your build, which seems out of place. You have 6 tactical BO abilities, 4 engineering and 2 science....You have enough to 2 copies of 3 tactical, 2 engineering and 1 science abilities. You wouldn't need any active duty space roster DOFFs for cooldowns. So, why the single A2B?
Also, you don't have EPTW in there, which should greatly improve DPS. If you have 3 purple damage control engineers, 2 might be acceptable for you but I prefer 3, you could run engineering like....
EPTS1, RSP1, EPTW3
ET1
RSP1 is just as good as RSP2 when you have aggro to fill up the shields in PvE or when someone is shooting you in PvP.
There are no DOFFs that help bring the cooldown on hazard emitters or transfer shield strength beyond technicians that I'm aware of, but you have to use those skills with high aux power if you want the best effect, which A2B robs you of at times. So, why the single A2B?
Huh ok, that makes waay more sense than what I was trying. I'll give it a spin and let you know. I've been trying out the a2b on another character for the first time and figured I could do something similar on this one but I did notice my aux heals were suffering hence why I was considering science team.
I also finally got access to Rom rep 4 so I can get decent sexy DBB front and I'm considering dropping the torp for the experimental beam array or replacing one of the DBB.
The console layout, I have the nacura universal as well. would it be worth it to replace one of the existing consoles or is the console layout good?

Here's the current build, mostly made up form what I picked up from missions and mob drops.

Note my skills are in there as well. I have not used my skill reset yet but I think that's where I'm going to need to get the most advice from.
The plan is to have a build that looks something like this:

I've bought the Ar'kif Tactical Refit and this is the current build on it: http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=silehakirarefit_0
