You think that was bad, just wait till you try to go epic.
As others have said stop using the green ones, noone in there right mind would use those. Its chance based, says so right on the screen, you were not ripped off you just didn't read.
There is a Catch 22 when it comes to the upgrade system. Watch out is dearly in the system resource if you don't know how to overcome them. Most of here got extra bonus power packs to use on the upgrade system. When you use those don't need to spend EC nor us so much Dilithum. If you run into the Catch 22 (Chance Method) stopped right there.

this thread should not of even existed, clearly misinformation and feeling entitled. 20 dollars can be recovered without much trouble, so its not as if it was DOOOOOOOMMMM!!!1!1!1!!! and the end of the world:D.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
The entire upgrade system is a ripoff. Being cheated by it should come as no surprise to anyone. This was a complete waste of developer resources and time IMO.
I wont go as far as saying its a complete waste of time but changes do need to be made ideally before it gets fully rolled out onto holodeck. Sadly I don't think this will be the case.
By not thinking the project through. Or through trial/error on experimenting.
We all make mistakes, so stop blaming others for your mistakes.
We've all done this at some point whether we care to admit it or not. The last time I did it, it cost me close 500k in dil just because I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. But was I miffed? yes, but hell I screwed up, I learned from it and moved on.
Lesson to all who read the forums. Stick with using superior upgrades or better (once DR gets here and you're at level 60 and can finish elite content) if you value your dilithium.
I really do wonder just how many people who frequent the forums actually pay attention to the different threads, or even look into the different sections. I mean there were 76 pages on the official upgrade feedback thread last time I looked, where I'm pretty sure this very issue would have been raised at least once.
Just wait until the whining when STO shuts its servers down for good. Every MMO will close down eventually.
If anyone reading this, pays any attention to PWE quarterly financial reviews, you'll know that they (PWE) are predicting or expecting the PC based MMO to die out in 5-10 years anyway.
I might not always agree with this guys stance on things, but in this case he's 100% right, the OP dropped a clanger and is looking for or hoping to get some sympathy from the people here, instead of taking it on the chin and learning from it.
If that's the worse thing to happen to you in life, then you got off pretty easy.
I think this is a misconception. If you go by this logic nobody on these forums has any kind of problems in his or her life at all because they got a computer and time to play a video game.
OP can complain all he or she wants, certainly, because what happened is - in the frame of all our sorrowless lifes that allow us to play video games - still a bugger. OP draws the wrong conclusions though as already pointed out nobody here is to blame but OP self. But this is inherent to the game we are all playing, STO became a gamble and that's not meant to benefit the player
^ Memory Alpha.org is not canon. It's a open wiki with arbitrary rules. Only what can be cited from an episode is. ^
"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
It is a rip off. You just don't see it. Try playing the content on Tribble with your existing MK XII gear and non-upgraded T5 ship. It's still easy.
I HAVE played on Tribble, through all the content and the over-inflated HP scaling that is currently there, and that is precisely where I tested the upgrade system. It's a choice between upgrading your gear, or getting new Mk 13 + 14 versions - usually the latter is cheaper, no question, but Rep items and other such things don't have that option... hence this system.
You believe I am unable to see it as a rip-off; on the contrary, I see the system quite clearly, and simply don't agree. And either way, I don't plan on using it either, not for awhile - as I've said, it simply isn't necessary for the new content. But when I do use it, there won't be a dime spent in the process, trust me
Was named Trek17.
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.
But this is inherent to the game we are all playing, STO became a gamble and that's not meant to benefit the player
Neither is WOW, Destiny, Titanfall, Half Life, Doom, Diablo, Minecraft, or Sins of a Solar Empire. If these games were designed with our well-being in mind they wouldn't exist (they'd be educational short films about the wonders of resume building and the National Park System.) Their function is to provide money to the people who made them. We can choose to enable that, but in this type of transaction we're not benefiting (apart from getting that neuro-chemical buzz that comes from entertainment.)
Bipedal mammal and senior Foundry author.
Notable missions: Apex [AEI], Gemini [SSF], Trident [AEI], Evolution's Smile [SSF], Transcendence
Looking for something new to play? I've started building Foundry missions again in visual novel form!
Their function is to provide money to the people who made them.
That's very objectivist of you.
The only important aspect of an activity is economic?
I imagine that, one or two, devs got into video game design to make money.
However, I'm equally sure that many devs are happy to be paid to work in a creative place.
There's an old saying from the theatre, if you're coming into acting to make money, you're going to be disappointed.
I imagine its true for video game designers too.
Video games may have, as a necessary aspect for financial survival, a need to make money.
But I seriously doubt that most video game designers wake up in the morning and wonder how much money the environment they're making today will pull in.

Time will only tell!
WHAT?, I have no idea if you even had a point?
