Smirk, can we get a zen promo code that does nothing?

gavinrunebladegavinruneblade Member Posts: 3,894 Arc User
Bizarre question aimed mostly at Smirk, but also the community.

I am a Trekkie, and also I care what I do with my money. For me, the most important part of Delta Rising is the fact that a lot of the actors who made the show great and fun provided voice work. But there's no way to vote for more of that with my wallet.

If I buy the operations pack Cryptic will think I like the ships. If I buy zen, cryptic will think I'm supporting whatever I buy with that zen (crafting, duty officers, new ships, old ships, etc).

Selling content in MMOs has failed over and over. So I know exactly why we're not being asked to pay to hear the voices.

Can I get a zen promo code that does nothing, not one bonus zen just the usual ammount, but internally Cryptic can track it and know that any money spent with this code is spent only because of the voice actors?

I know it's a bit like the story of the millions of dying fish on the beach and one guy tossing them back in the ocean by hand. A friend comes and asks him why he bothers, there's so many what he's doing doesn't matter or make a difference. the man throws one more fish in and says "it mattered to him". I feel like that guy.

I know I can't spend enough money to make a difference compared to what they cost. But if this could happen, then the next time it comes up for discussion "should we get just one person or as many as are willing to say yes" and the bean counter says "well people spent X dollars on the new ships, and Y dollars on the crafting upgrades, but not one penny on the voicework" Gecko can turn to that jerkwad and say actually some people did spend money on them.

Jeri, Robert, Ethan, Tim and Garret made the show I love what I loved. It wasn't the plots or the sets, it was the people. It matters that I support Cryptic for bringing not just Tim, but everyone to participate, and it matters to me that Cryptic knows it.

Is this possible?

You're not being asked to pay to hear the voices because the voices are part of them game's story content and this a Free to Play game.

So you want them to send you a special zen code so you can express thanks for the voice acting, meanwhile you just expressed thanks via your forum post...

    Little thinking there...
Everywhere I look, people are screaming about how bad Cryptic is.
    What's my position?
That people should know what they're screaming about!

You can also express your thanks directly to the actors on Twitter and link your tweet to STO's Twitter account if you want to make sure Cryptic sees it.

Gecko will justify the cost of the VOs by the increased player population I'm sure he's hoping to see. Having almost the entire cast of Voyager in the game (I'm betting we're also going to see Kate Mulgrew at some point as a big reveal) will not only keep the existing playerbase engaged and logging in but should also bring in new players.

*pushes you into reactor core* Oops sorry clumsy me! :D

Though I agree the request seems strange.

But I understand wanting a way to show that vo work tends to sell more as long as it's believable.

Example to avoid, Hakeev from the Romulan Arc: "Mein Eye!" lol all that was missing was a mustache to twirl

Unfortunately we cannot create any ZEN codes that will serve in this fashion, but some of the other users already suggested something that can work wonderfully for this idea.

Post here in our forums, on our Facebook page, on Twitter, Reddit, Instagram or anywhere with a social media presence and tell not only us here at PWE and Cryptic how much you love the VO talent we have been luck enough to bring into our game... but tell the actors directly via their own social media hubs.

Plus, if you love someone from Star Trek who hasn't been in our game (yet?) why not send them a message about how much you would love them to reprise their roles in-game?

Just make sure it's nice and not spammy :)

With such a galaxy of talent from the franchise, we would love to add more bright stars to STO from now until Season Infinity!

Its fascinating that a proactive, and positive reenforcing idea gets such a negative response.

Somebody telling the developers exactly what they are willing to pay/play for, without resorting to whining.

And they get called 'weird' and 'stupid'.

No wonder this whole community gets steam rolled over - the 'community' does not stand up for each other - instead, there is a race to the bottom in order see who can insult each other in the most amusing manner - and totally ignores the issue at hand.

A F2P conversion rapid trajectory path to the sewer for the community in general. Dont get me wrong there was some steamy stuff before but it was rather controlled so to speak but after it became a rats nest of vermin posts. I simply stopped posting for a long time....

I sent Mr Auberjonois some Tweets telling us how much we love Odo, and he replied that he loves us too, so you never know. Maybe we will get some Changeling reprised actors in STO someday.

That would be cool, given the plot of delta rising he'd be a wonderful addition to those missions we were promised coming after launch. Might still be time to make it happen. My own lib Borg character owes more to icheb than seven or loquetas

There is a part of me that would rather have Brent Spiner do his impersonation of Patrick.I'd really love to have both, but Spiner's impression is so popular at conventions that it would be amazing to have one in game.
