Mastery traits

Come DR, it's a fair bet that the sales of certain ships will go down.

Tier 5 ships will certainly become less attractive propositions once T6 becomes available.

Thus, I propose that T5 ships get access to a ship mastery trait.

The final, transferrable one.

The thing about T5 ships is that they're either Fed, KDF or specific racial ship type.

Thus, I'd tie those traits into that.

A Vulcan ship gets a different trait than a Gorn one, or an Orion one, or a Caitian one.

However, if the ship is just Star Fleet or KDF is gets a generic one tied to the faction.

The trait would be earned in the usual way as a reward for experience while flying the ship.

What do you think?

Might boost ship sales while offering a small nod to the species strengths of certain ships....

It's possible we might see this in the future.

I don't really see them going back and making special traits for every T5 C Store/Lock Box/Seasonal Event ship, much more profit to be made in giving them to new ships that they can sell as opposed to old ships that have come and gone.

How about instead making certain T5 ship consoles usable on any ship? The torpedo point defense console for example. :D

Mastery traits can be gained from T6 ships so one could level one up and then take the mastery trait.

I would prefer T5-U ships get an upgrade to one of their boff stations. Hell even just upgrading all ensign stations to lieutenants so each T5-U ship has three lieutenants would be useful and it would keep them from being close to equal with T6 ships which is a thing that Cryptic are apparently terrified of. This is especially important for lockbox ships, as any future lockbox ship will necessarily be T6. All lockbox ships should be created equal in boff options as they are at current T5 endgame.

Less a special trait for each ship, more a special trait for each space faring species.

Of which there aren't that many, and fewer still with ships in the STO lineup.

KDF side, there'd be Klingon, Orion, Nausicaan, Gorn, Felkhiri.....er......don't think I'm missing any.

Fed side, there's Star Fleet, Caitian, Andorian, Vulcan...er......

Lock box/lobi/event ships there are a few more of, but I'd not include them in this.

They dont need mastery traits to make them attractive in comparison to T6, T5 ships do.

So, thats nine traits to make. Not that many really.

And, once made, they'd be applicable to any ships sourced from that culture going forward.

Which is one reason to buy a T6 ship, but I'm wondering about the sales of T5 ships.

Also, by making them species based, I think they could add a nice flavour to things.

Suppose, for instance, the mastery trait for the D'Kyr was something like +30 sensors, 5% chance every minute to reveal all cloaked ships within 10km.

Sort of goes with both the ship itself but, more importantly, that sense that Vulcans really know how to use sensors.

It'd be another nice way to approach starship mastery, and encourage T5 ship sales.

Then that would leave the Romulans the odd ones out, even if you considered some ships *Reman* that's still only 2.

    You're right.

A Romulan and a Reman trait would be two, and I'd forgotten them entirely.

However, as things stand, their fleet has no ships from any species but those two.

I suppose the Suliban could join them at one point and contribute a ship, but it'd be just two traits for now.

However, this would just be another route to acquiring these traits and, afaik, only one can be slotted at a time.

Eleven species based ship mastery traits.

Make them only available on T5 vessels, and you'd make far more sales to level 40 toons.

    Ahh, that's possible, and interesting

But if Cryptic does something like this, I think they would probably create new tier 6 ships to go along with the traits (and still give the option to acquire said traits from existing tier 5U ships)

But Caitian Trait needs to do something with catnip!

    Hmmm factional Ship traits

I like that Idea, thematically applying them could be a nice way to diversify ships like the D'ykr or the Orion Vessels

I rather like the notion of the Orion vessels granting a pirate themed trait
