Ugrade question - only 2

1. How do you increase the chance to for the rarity (color) of your item?

2. I have made it to level 15 for beams in R&D, however I can only craft blue beam upgrade technologies. Why don't i have the option for purple?

    Update - I found both of the items, not sure how I missed it. I will say that I agree with many of the other comments - doesn't seem like its worth it. My maco mk x11 has been upgraded to mk xiii yet the stats are the same.

    Two ways, you can either continuously re-run the upgrade project until the rarity increases (which is a massive resource sink) or you can apply rarity chance accelerators (found in C-store R+D packs and the exchange) while applying tech upgrades.

    There are lots of bugs with the upgrade system. It is not surprising considering how many pieces of equipment are available and it is easy to miss a few.
