DR - what's the "threat"?

adwynythadwynyth Member Posts: 369 Arc User
So, what's the "big threat" unveiled yesterday? The big bad from DR, I presume, but who or what is it?

I wasn't able to participate in the LiveStream, and I'm not watching hours and hours of video for something that should be a pretty short bit of text.

I gather from the mission "Bug Hunt" (streamed at the same time) that they're bugs maybe?

    SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the neural parasites from the TNG episode "Conspiracy".
FKA K-Tar, grumpy Klingon/El-Aurian hybrid. Now assimilated by PWE.

The livestream was kept spoiler free so they never gave any details. Although it wasn't hard to figure out who they are.

    THANK GOD!

I've been wondering ever since they originally appeared when they'd show up again.

    SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I figured since they said they'd titled the dev blog announcing the livestream "Delta Rising Threat Revealed!" that it wouldn't be a spoiler afterward.

Also thank you. I wish they had "spoiler" tags here, like they do on the SWTOR forums. Makes it so much easier (other than trolls) to discuss spoilery things there without spoiling everyone to everything.

You may not know this trivia, but those neural parasite bugs were what was originally supposed to be The Borg. Cyborg bugs were deemed too expensive to make, so they basically left that plotline unresolved, and made cyborg humans instead.

Exactly how many seasons are they planning using the shapeshifter/puppeteer trope?

I really hope they don't TRIBBLE this up....I loved that episode.

I'm kinda glad they did have to make that change. Cyborg bugs would have been almost impossible to relate to or empathize with, and would have just been (instinctively to many viewers) extinction targets.

Making them people added possibilities like Hue, Seven of Nine, the Borg Cooperative, and Picard/Janeway vs. Queen to the canon. All good additions that wouldn't have been even remotely possible with bugs IMHO.

I just wonder how they're going to play a role in the grand scheme of things. Do they have any connections to the Iconians or are they an unexpected chaotic element with their own set of motivations? I hope it's the latter because not every mysterious race needs to be servitors to the Iconians. I was actually kind of hoping the Vaadwaur would be the servants of the Iconians, like the Tal Shiar, and the bugs are an unexpected problem for everyone.
