Upgrade System & Mk "Infinity" items

aesicaaesica Member Posts: 736 Arc User
So, while playing around on an alt, I was previewing various items in the upgrade window and figured I'd peek at a few others for fun, such as the omni-directional antiproton beam and "ghostbuster gun." Now, they're labeled Mk XII (even though I canceled the upgrade) rather than showing the infinity symbol or (in the case of the distortion rifle) nothing at all. My questions are:

1) Did I just "lock" these supposedly-scalable items at Mk XII? Or, as scaling items, will they continue to scale on their own?

2) If they don't lock at their displayed level, do upgrades even work on them? I'm tempted to try it out on characters I don't use much, but in case someone else has already tried, I'd rather save my freebie upgrade tokens.

3) Is there...any way to undo this?

I should note that, for all items, the level indicator (XI, XII, etc) on each item's icon changes slightly when you select it to upgrade, whether or not you actually choose to upgrade. The changed version appears to have the mark level written on top of the icon when before, the number was part of the icon image itself.

This leads me to believe that, whether or not you actually upgrade the item, it gets stealth-swapped for a new version. Seedy!

Edit: Update to original post!

It seems that (at level 50) merely slotting these "Mk Infinity" items will improve them by setting them to Mk XII--whether or not you actually upgrade them!

Synchronic Proton Distortion Prototype Assault Rifle - Mk Infinity
1) 103.5 Antiproton Damage [82.8 DPS]
2) 19.7 Proton Damage

Synchronic Proton Distortion Prototype Assault Rifle - Mk XII
1) 111.8 Antiproton Damage [89.4 DPS]
2) 19.7 Proton Damage (tooltip could be wrong)

Just thought I'd pass that along. So yeah, thanks Cryptic! :)

The upgrade system is currently very buggy, yes previewing some items glitches them.

This is working as intended. Here is the official dev response.

    Levelless items

Many pieces of levelless gear will stop receiving bonuses at level 50. After this, you can upgrade the item and it will gain a Mark, and will then improve after this. This will allow your levelless gear to actually keep up with your other gear, since Mk 12 gear is actually above level 50 and Mk 14 is even better than that.

they stop scaling at mk 11 any way. anything past mk 12 is drop or upgrade system only. and from what tester say last I checked you only get mk 13 in delta maps.

and it is buggy right now wait tell the 14th to do anything. except test on one or two things you don't care about if you have some extra dil.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

Aah thanks, that clears it up. I wasn't sure because I noticed that the tritanium rending bat'leth remains "levelless" and claims to already be at the highest level. Probably bugged along with certain other items that won't upgrade.

Anyway, interesting approach. I wonder if those levelless items will actually be able to compete with proper rep gear. Most likely not, oh well.

It might also be worth pointing out that Mk infinity items weren't going to be going past Mk X even when you're level 60. So... free upgrade. Good for you! :D

Edit: I should really look at the other posts before I bother commenting.
