New Science Captain

Good morning everyone,
Hope you're all having a fantastic Friday so far. I've been playing STO off and on Since March/April and find myself growing a bit bored with my Engineer. So with the double xp going on until DR drops I've decided to scratch the science captain itch that's been bugging me since I started playing. I really only made the engineer because at the time I had two friends playing, and they told me they needed a tank for their group, forgive us we were new, and they already had a sci healer and tac dps.

In your opinion would this build do alright? I'm trying to go for a hybrid build that can dabble with a little bit of everything but still do decent DPS. I realize of course I'd be better served with Fleet tac consoles, but I just don't have the fleet credits for them.

http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=alienromsciscimtest_0

I'll be starting him tonight. Thoughts, criticisms and advice are all welcome?

Thank you for your time.
Rev

**Edit Species is Alien, sorry thought I had included that bit of info***

I have a couple of videos on science captains on my youtube channel. You're going to need a lot of turn rate for that ship. Also, I might recommend using cannons, a torpedos, and a dual beam bank for beam overloads

Scimitar is not meant to play with the prey, simply destroy it.

    Try this build for PvE.....

    TT1, THY2, BFAW3
    EPTS1
    TT1, APB1, BFAW3, APB3
    EPTW1, ET2
    HE1, ST2

Go with all beam arrays and the kinetic cutting beam.
    broadside.
You will not need THY2, but if you want to slot a torpedo, have fun with it.

Use maint engineer to reduce engineering team cooldown, and the development lab one for science team.

3 purple damage control engineers to cycle EPTS and EPTW as often as possible.
If you don't have the DCEs, use 2x EPTS1 until you have the DCEs and then the build above.

Thanks for the advice guys, I appreciate it and will consider it. However, the original intent of the build wasn't to do the maximum dps possible. Simply to build a hybrid Scimitar that still has decent dps. It might not be possible, which is fine :).

    Thanks again!

Do yourself a favor, skip the mcduffie369 video. (We tried helping him improve it, he refused the help)

Lately the rage with sci is with particle generators. When combined with FBP and TBR, you can cause a lot of damage apart from your weapons. Level up that sci R&D school to level 15 (about 100 days of once a day kicking off the daily) for the trait to boost your crits and cause even more DPS.

I see you slotted TBR and GW, but have zero part gens skill. You might want to respec at some point. Also try to get a hold of the TBR reversing doff.

Thanks Lucho. I admit, I only have 3 points in particle gen, is it not showing up? I was trying to determine what I could cut back on while still buffing dps and power levels and get more points in there.
