I asked this on reddit with some good responces but I'll ask it on here to.
basically
do they pay for themselves in KDF contraband farming? anyone using them now give feedback on their results? trying to figure out if worth it. I run 19 toons, 5 kdf in that used for play and contraband farming debating expanding the kdf side. but wondering if kitting them all out with these slavers what the best combination is for contraband? just pve queues or run missions to farm it and are they working and are they cost efficient?
thanks everyone for there responses so has ANYONE got contraband from these lately say the past 3 months? if not to me they are not worth it.
I havent been to the reddit thread, but here's what happened to Advanced/Elite slavers, and where they are now.
1. They used to rock, and would get a decent amount of loot and Contraband.
2. There was a stealth nerf: They basically panicked and shut off their ability to loot entirely.
3. They opened the spigot, although at a ridiculously reduced/nerfed rate. There were whole threads dedicated to this.
4. Elite slavers came out, that do get contraband AND GQ items, but less than the rate at which Advanced slavers of old did.
So yes - you will get contra, and with regular playing against "Living Targets" (not Crystal Shards or Borg Buildings, for example), you can make your money back in a month or so. They are still worth it, but not as much as they used to be.
To answer your question OP - yes they do, eventually. They used to have better pick up rates, but when Cryptic tinkered with the carrier pet mechanics and the new carrier UI they were severely nerfed. Then after the forums complained a lot they were buffed again and there's a dev.post burried somewhere in here that expalined how the drop rates work after that buff, but I'll be darned if I can find it now.
In short they don't loot as much as they did long time ago, however they still loot and will eventually pay for themselves, unless you're putting strict deadlines as to in what timespan you want this to happen.
I only use the slavers on my Orion toon (I always keep things thematic), and to answer your second question - yes, they have picked up contraband for me in the past 3 months. They always do, depending on how much I play.
What I can tell you is the following - if you play with the slavers with the sheer goal of farming and expecting fast results, you might find them underwhelming. However, if you just play the game in order to play, level, for fun or grind reps without loot goals set, you'll be suprised by comodities and contraband laying in your inventory fairly often at the end of your play cycle.

The best thing to do is to buy one hangar or one pack of hangars (depending on what you command) of the elite slavers and see for yourself how they work for you over some time before you outfit all the chars you mentioned with these. That way you'll get first hand info without wasting too much resources and if they're satisfactory you could buy them for the rest of the chars as well.

I've used many fighters before and had grown accustomed to how quickly they die, but the Slavers are an entirely new breed of TIE Fighters.
Sadly, the Elite Tholian fighters you get from Nukka rep take THAT honor. But slavers aren't too bad, IMHO.
My Elite Slavers make my To'Duj & Scorpion Fighters look like the Ent-E in survivability
