The layout for the Dauntless has been revealed, and if the forums are any indication the science community isn't very happy with it. It seems that a lot of folks were hoping that this ship would be a true science vessel with both a lieutenant commander and commander science station. There are also science captains (like myself) who were disappointed that the Scryer wasn't as tactically oriented as we thought it should be. The solution to this problem seems simple: switch the Boff and console layouts for the Scryer and Dauntless!
It wouldn't be a perfect swap (a few adjustments would need to be made), but it would be pretty close. Here's what I propose:
Leave everything else the same. The Dauntless would now have the ability to slot up to eight science skills and be a much better fit for those looking for a pure science ship. Those of us who want something fast and punchy in the Scryer would now have a build that can better take advantage of its ability to slot dual cannons.
There are other benefits to this change: specifically, the special trait for the Dauntless--Radiant Nanite Cloud--would be a lot more useful with the layout proposed above. It also seems like the Scryer special trait--Emitter Synergy--would get a similar boost. I'm not sure if it was a typo, but the website states that the Scryer trait is based on the use of tactical and intelligence abilities (as opposed to science). If that's true, then it really should be the ship to get the lieutenant commander tactical slot.
The subject of science ships seems to elicit strong feelings, with some feeling that new ships are too tactically focused, and others feeling that science ships need more firepower. Right now neither side seems very happy with the two new T6 science ships that have been revealed. I believe that this proposal can give both sides what they want.
Finally, I'd like to make an appeal to my fellow Vesta captains. The suggested layout for the Scryer would not make the Vesta obsolete. Indeed, with the ability to slot fighters, one of the better three-piece console sets, and a better selection of universal Boff stations, the Vesta will still continue to hold its own. The improved Scryer would simply offer an interesting alternative for those who want to try something new in the science/tactical category.
I believe that these changes would better cater to the science community overall, and improve the demand for these ships. What do you think? If you agree with my idea, please register your support. Cryptic obviously wants to make money, and give us ships we want to buy. There's still time before the launch of Delta Rising, and maybe we can persuade Cryptic to improve these ships!
It seems like an interesting idea. I haven't had any success with a pure Science ship, but a tactical Science would be more interesting to me -- a new ship in the spirit of (if different abilities than) the Vesta. The problem with your post is that you haven't mentioned once about how Cryptic is stabbing you with phillips screwdrivers, or hates Science. You might need a second draft.
Rather then switching the boff seating, which just doesn't seem right to me. I propose switching the console layout, and the ability to slot a secondary deflector with the ability to fit dual heavy cannons.
The scryer model looks more fitting to beams and the dauntless looks like it would work better with cannons.
