Someone up in 10F gave me this idea. I've wanted to have some channel where we can set up PvP without all the garbage, and this is my last attempt to make it happen.
The rules would be like so:
-Only T4 ships allowed (or 2 or 3, whatever we feel like for a match)
-no gear above Mk X
-no rep passives/actives
-no traits
-no reputation items
-no C-store items, unless it is something inconsequential such as quad cannons
-no universal consoles
-nothing that comes out of lockbox in general
-no doffs
-no crafted items
-no fleet stuff
-Romulans to be decided
-you must be set to visible on Gateway
-did I miss anything?
Basically, it's vanilla PvP. A lot would have to rely on the honor system, but I think we can make it work. I did uninstall the game a while ago, but I'm willing to put it back in if you all think this is a good idea and support it.
I want our fun PvP back. No years of grinding to get in, just grab a ship and go! We could even arrange T1, 2, 3 matches is we feel like it.
The boss being a gigantic Winter Epohh Researcher. As you lay waste to the Epohh Horde, she can occasionally cry out things like, "Didn't you want an Epohh friend?"
Don't set rules that u can't enforce. Half of the rules you listed can't be controled.
Ship Tier 4 limit + no clickeable consoles is enought, that will ban 99% of the TRIBBLE.
The others would have to be honor system. If we really think that people are not being honest, we'll adjust the rules accordingly.
The whole point of this is to eliminate more than clickies, because it's the passives' power creep over time that's caused damage and healing to get out of hand.

I can trust you to honorable, right?
Sorry bro, that won't work. Probably people won't even sign up for that reason, you may trust in me (not recommended, lol), but the others won't trust in my on anyone else.
Limit the rules to things that you can enforce. Ban doffs will ban half of the pvp builds around, people won't be ok with that, trust me in this one.
I'm not a PvPer due to trash talk and constant blowing up but this could be fun so I'd be prepared to give it a try as well.
Perhaps some "scenarios" could be good, in terms of e.g. "Battle to Surrender" being the battle lasts until one player evasives to 10km away and surrenders? Let's face it, in Star Trek ships tended to leave, not wait till they were destroyed five times (well, except for that one episode with the Ent-D).
I'm wondering if the RPers could be interested in such an approach too?
Another rule for Romulans to enter could be "Cloak is a sign of surrender"?
EDIT: Honor system could be problematic yes, but parsers pick up on a lot of things so could be helpful as well here. Especially if there were "independent observers" posted.

I dunno pal, people are seeming to like it. I don't think you understnd the fact the stuff we cannot visually see, such as the gear Mk, is what makes PvP the unwelcome place it is. If I allow those kinds of things, we'll be right back at the cheese, power creep, and grind gated situation we're in now.

This sounds cool, could make for interesting games.

I like this idea. We could have reputable members running parsers during matches to catch anyone using banned stuff.
This would be fun, but yeah, some of the rules will be hard to enforce. We all know there's a few people that just need to win that badly.
I say keep rep passives and non-clicky universals, but it's your idea, go with what you think is right.
Why don't you make a PvP Battles channel similar to the PvE channel. I would join and I know some other people would too. You could also try to get teams going in the TD channel if Antonio doesn't mind.
I'm in, but would prefer T2/T3 area - it is far more balanced and Trek-like at that level.
That could be arranged. The tier doesn't matter right now, it's the concept I'm going for.
For anyone else who is still saying to just leave it at stuff we can enforce. You just don't understand the point of this. I want a mode of PvP where it doesn't require months or years of grinding just to get into it. I don't want all the ridiculous power creep and cheese introduced over the past 2-3 years. Let me make an analogy.
You have a bucket of contaminated water, with dirt and debris in it. How do you make it drinkable? Your suggestion is to pull out the visible bits of dirt and stuff, which won't do jack because there's still plenty in there you can't see which will kill you. You need to run the water through a filter to get out the dirt particles you can't see, and drop a chlorine tablet in to kill any microscopic microbes. You just have to trust that it's safe.

What do y'all say?
This sounds like a very fun idea, how about using the gateway to check what ships and gear people have before you hit the start button? and for people that have the gateway set to not visible to others, kick them out before you hit start
Excellent idea... And for good measure, have a dedicated arbiter who would occasionally check the gateway. Whoever is caught with something funny during the match will be disqualified and the team will forfeit the match.
It does update almost on the fly IME, so it should work.
I would definitely take part in this. One thing; when we say T2/3, does this include the Excelsior? I'm perfectly happy to strip my C-Store Consoles to make it fair.
Or, better yet, can I use my Ambassador, since that doesn't have a C-Store console? (It's also my cruiser of choice right now). It would take me a while to strip the C-Store gear off of it, but I can easily use my VA character to purchase the replacement kit.
Either way, this is something I would take interest in.
I think C-store ships are fine without their universal consoles, as to my knowledge they're either not boosted in stats or the boost is so little it matters not. So yeah, Excel/Amb plus any others are fine. Mirror ships would be okay if we should want to do a vanilla T5 match.
As for the gateway, that is another good idea. It would have to be an entrance requirement to be visible on gateway. We should also have anyone with a parser run it during matches to make sure nothing fishy is going on.
Anyone who is interested, I will invite to VPvP soon, and if forum handle doesn't work in-game, I'll notify you via forum email (or you can let me know here in the thread).

Yay!
...
Uh-oh, now I really need to get my Ambassador rolling right.
If we do Tier 3 I'd love to use the Constellation aka Heavy Cruiser Refit, though it feels kinda OP with five boff slots and an universal ens. :P
Otherwise I'll just drop 40k dil for a normal Heavy Cruiser and use the ship costume.

Fyi, the C-Store ships have an extra boff slot and stats. At low levels the difference could be between Commander, Ltx2, Ens and Commander, Lt Com, Lt, and Ens as an example. Can't remember if they get extra console slots.
Edit: Can re-read the great Nova debates from ~3 years ago for lolz on the matter.

do you consider mirror ships as valid ships for this?
if not, ill figure out something :P
got multiple toons that could easily be geared for this if you allow mirrors though
Honor concept sounds ok too. You don't follow the rules and people find out: You're out.
If you get away with it, you may live with the shame.
