Seriously, can we? I'm getting a bit sick of playing Escorts Online with my tac captain. When can we expect to see a C-Store ship with a CMD tac, but without the ability to run cannons? I know a few of the lobi/lockbox ships have that it, or have a universal that can be used, but I want something Trek, not some alien ship.
You know, it is possible to put beams on an escort.
Just sayin'.

Gotta agree. Do what I would do, slap some beams on an Akira. Maybe its just me, but the Akira just feels weird with cannons and seems more like a beamy torpedo ship to me.
Either that, or put them on a Destroyer if you have one (yes the Breen ship is alien, but it IS a canon trek ship).
There are many Destroyers, Raptors, and Warbirds you could use instead of Escorts. Also, you don't even have to use a tactical ship with a Tac captain.

All the good beam enhancing abilities come with cruisers. Unless you were really festering over Dispersal 3 or Omega 3.
Or maybe you have the Ultra Rare Boff with Beam Fire at Will Four.
Only you know, and I bet you're not going to tell us.
I have to agree with the others, try using an escort if you want that commander tac station.
The Akira might be the ship you're looking for. It's a cruiser in canon but is an escort in STO. I really recommend using it as a beam boat in PvE. It has a hangar bay and a nifty AoE torpedo console. Love me some torpedo console + TS3 action
I also recommend the Avenger. It looks trek and works great with beams even though it only has a lt com tac station.
If you have an LTS you can get the vet ship. It's not an escort but has a commander tac station (because it's a destroyer). It makes a great beam boat.
But really don't overlook the Excelsior, Galaxy-X, and Tac Odyssey. They're still great ships.
He's looking for a tac com boff seat, not ltcomm, though if he wanted to settle on a lt comm tac seat a tac oddy has a uni lt comm seat most use as a tac seat, works great as a beam boat

Sure, replace any cannons on your ship with beams,... done. Beam boat with Commander Tactical.

Patrol Escort Refit. Cmdr Tac, LtCmdr Eng x2, Lt Sci. Ignore the tailgun, beamscort to your heart's content. Though I guess it doesn't come with cruiser commands, so if the OP is looking for a ship that truly has the features of EVERY class he's going to be forever disappointed.
I am currently using the Andie escort for my beamboat. I would like to also have a Star Trek ship, not a PWE ship with a TAC comm. Frankly the Oddies should have a Comm boff based off of it's hull type.
Akira is not a cruiser nor the Armitage.
And yeah, I like having Omega 3 and 1 which is why I am in the Store ship.
Agreed with the Akira, it's always be a beam boat in canon.
just slap some beam arrays on it and go blast away

The only cannon armed fed ship in the shows and the movies was the Defiant and even that had beams as well.

There was something mentioned by one of the Dev's not too long ago that might explain why there are no cruisers with a Commander tac slot. When designing ships, escorts get more tac consoles than any other, engineering slots for cruisers, and science slots for sci ships. I'd assume that the same applies r the highest ranked BO slot. With T6 ships coming and soonu might find that those might change things up but I haven't seen their specs as of yet.

Indeed, if you use phaser beams/consoles and MVAM that may be your best bet of all. In MVAM I believe your two pets (i.e. the sections you don't control) both have phaser beams and are both enhanced by the Phaser Relay tac console.
Likewise, the Chimera destroyer's Phaser Lotus is enhanced by that console (and its Klingon Pegh'chu and Romulan Daeinos counterparts by the disruptor coil and plasma infuser consoles, respectively). So if you go with any of those ships for your beam boat, be sure to use beam types and consoles that match these other abilities.
Was running the Romulan vet destroyer as a beam boat using the Romulan weapons set [filled out with Rom beam arrays that dropped from rep boxes] on a sci character during CCE and she did great, IMO the Rom version has that special "Raptor" look to it so it was great fun going whee, blam, blam that that you evil Crystal. :P
I can speak from experience that the Chimera does wonderfully as a beam boat. I actually fly my Engineer in that. Coupled with an Aux2Bat setup, it's both offensively and defensively viable. Plus, the fleet version boosts the hull to near cruiser levels.
Another ship to consider in addition to those mentioned above is the Steamrunner Blockade Runner Escort which is available in the Steam Starter Pack for $20. Totally worth it as it comes with fleet stats out of the box and the entire pack is less than a C-Store ship. Build wise, it's a strong mix of Tac and Eng with a thick hull.
Jemnaught, Chel Grett, Mobius, Risian Corvette, all destroyers, Monbosh, Fish carrier, Plesh brekk all have CDR tac slots. Recluse and the Tal-Shiar adapted cruiser have CDR uni slots that can swing tactical..
in fact, using the uni slots the fish carrier has the same boff setup the Defiant has
The cruiser FAW/A2B setup is damn OP already. You should only get an Lt tactical slot with them, and that's already equal to an escort in power.
To be honest, not really.
The best DPS builds in the game utilize a non-A2B Scimitar, which is really just a slow turning escort. So no, I wouldn't say FAW/A2B is that powerful if it's easily being beaten by builds that don't use A2B. Same goes for other FAW escort builds that have the potential.
Stick on 3x Zemoks and 3x beam power cooldown reduction doffs and the tempest can easily outdo a cruiser in FAW dealt DPS.
In the end it's just FAW that's the problem and I think Cryptic has had enough of trying to fix and balance it.
I kinda laugh when people crow about faw/A2B. in PVE you really don't see the situation that much where it's worthwhile. I like having BOL before FAW. IMHO, BOL2 and TS3 win over FAW on a single target. And if you like escorts, the doffs that reduce cannon special modes are a complete win.

Its not the A2B that makes it overpowered, so much as accentuates it because it makes it readily available. The stacking debuffs combined with no-cost AOE is what makes it a killer combination, whether its A2B, doffs, or just a lot of tac slots. If they took out A2B tomorrow, the 20k ships using B'tran-farmed doffs would be back to weak-link cruisers, but the 50k ships using hundreds of millions of EC in fancy doffs wouldn't bat an eyelash. Only thing that'd do is make fawboats more elitist-exclusive.
I never run cannons on anything, with the exception of Klingon Birds of Prey and Defiant Class Starships.
Frankly, I prefer a more canon experience to cannon experience, therefore I tend to run beams on just about everything.
A Cmdr Tac officer for cruisers might be nice, but honestly, what would we do with it? Short of AP Omega III, there isn't much at the top of the Space Tactical abilities tree that is helpful, as most of the upper level abilities are cannon enhancements. Mines maybe?
Just my 2 ec.
