Quick Question

I've recently been playing a new KDF character and I've gotten to the point where I can't level through missions anymore (in the cardassian mission chapter). So I did some fleet alerts and a Red Alert as well until I got another level. When I finally could do the next mission, I did, only to see I have to do the same pattern again. So the question that I have is what else can I do to really gain some experience because this routine will get boring pretty quick personally, but it's not like I'm unwilling to put the work in.

It also seems like this has came into existance as a thing within the last few patches as well. Not to sure about the actual timeline though...

Duty Officer missions seem to something you're expected to do at that level group to augment your Experience gain. You can also repeat older missions, which is great to get the rewards at a higher mark to outfit your ship.

Also, check your mission journal's 'Availible' tab and see if you have the Empire Defense missions unlocked, those are OK for Exp and great for Dilithium.

I'm not sure if this is the case, although I have to admit all this sounds really weird. I never experienced this type of issues while leveling any of my many KDF chars, never had a shortage of XP.

What I can recommend is to do some Doffing, pick up side missions that can give significant XP. (check your 'availible' tab, there are a lot of "kill 50 NPC ships", "kill 50 NPCs", "destroy 10 turrets" whose goals you can achieve while playing and killing NPCs in your regular story missions)
There are also the "Empire Defense" dailies which can get boring after a while, but doing them sometimes doesn't hurt as it gives XP and a nice amount of dilithium as well.
Finally, you may try some missions you pick up on the go like "Traelus system satelite repair", protecting the Ferengi in Alhena system in Eta Eridani daily, the ship that sends distress calls west of Drozana station also in Eta Eridani or even that diplomatic mission in Bajor system that you can pick up in Hathon on Bajor.
It's not much, but you can use them as fillers to gain the XP needed to push forward.

Also you can try the foundry, pick up the wrapper, there are some good missions that are availible for miscellaneous levels, so you don't have to be lvl 50 to play them.

Playing missions in order is not the best way to go. Skip as many as possible, because the xp gains scale with you.

This means the early missions continue to give 1 level per mission well into the 40's, while all missions starting at spectres and after scale back to payout less xp as you progress.

The tutorial empire defense missions give 2.3k xp each, for 1/3 the work of a regular empire defense mission that have the same xp payout. So save them for those in-between levels when you've got very little left to go on your progress bar.

DoFF missions in the exploration clusters pay out better for the time spent on them vs the random ones strewn about in sector space. Those are things like the T'ong nebula, Dkel Star cluster etc. Not all of the missions there require colonists, and many finish in 30mins to an hour.
