AoE Subnuc - Who's moronic idea?

neppakyoneppakyo Member Posts: 245 Arc User
Seriously. nuc is bad enough when being chained by a team of sci's, now they're introducing AoE subnuc? It's utterly useless for PvE, as for PvP makes the game even more unblanaced.

I'll wait longer to see more of these new features, but what i am seeing isn't very good. Appears to be a massive leap in power creep coming with Delta Rising..

As much as I love the trek universe, I may be returning back to guild wars 2.

Yeah, I don't know how this AoE Subnuke came around as a "good" idea, it's going to be exploited by teams and A2B players. Imagine facing a 5-man premade team each with this AoE Nuke, including any other regular subnukes, it's going to be a completely lopsided victory.

If the devs aren't going to take the nuke off or tone it down, they should at least add a cooldown for the nuker's target, something like 1 minute, of not being able to take a nuke hit.

I think this is the 5th thread on this topic...

The aoe subnuke strips the 3 longest buffs from enemy ships. In pvp most people will run fleet shields. The [adapt] buff lasts 30 seconds. That's the longest buff in the game. If used on a ship with fleet shields while it's buffed with [adapt] it will lose 3 stacks then instantly get them back.

Will it even strip the perma-buffs from set bonuses and AMP cores, rendering it utterly useless seeing as they will come back immediately?

What's the level of the power?

If it's Lt.Cmdr or higher, think of what you will need to sacrifice for it. A Cannon Rapid Fire? Attack Pattern Omega? Gravity Well? Engineering Team III? Aux2Bat? Aux2SIF?

that seems like a bug rather than a feature since normal subnuke and the subnuke doff doesn't do that. Did you report it? Also, source?

    Its a stupid ability, subnuc.

No other mmo has a power that both removes buffs and locks your powers to a CD timer. One or the other would be fine, but both at once is stupid.

With AoE subnuc, just makes it more idiotic. I'd like to meet the dev who thought of this idea and hit him in the face with a trout.

Combined with the vulnerability exploit clearing buffs as well, Intel ships seem like a tall order to go up against in Pvp, to say the least.

I'm curious, what made you decide on a trout? Wouldn't a carp have sufficed? Or is there something innate about the trout that makes them most suitable for face slapping?

It's the traditional fish for slapping. Preferably a large trout. Not sure how it came to be, but it is what it is. Many fond memories of trout slapping.

    The QQ is wonderful.

It's a shame Subnuc wave is a much weaker version of the science SNB, and can probably still be cleansed by Science Team or more likely, Intelligence Team.

You willing to seed more copies of science team just to ensure you can cleanse this ? Maybe they'll ensure only T6 ships can cleanse it with Intel team ?

In terms of an AoE ability I can see:

an ability that causes global cool down of your abilities.

an ability that causes you to lose some of your buffs.

I can't see however an ability that causes global cool down and lose some of your buffs.
Retired. I'm now in search for that perfect space anomaly.

About the fish I assume its an older tradition than a 1995 IRC chat:

OT: AoE Subnuc? Considering that some NPCs started to use regular SN I would not count on it being a PvP only "problem".

Not sure to think of it as a problem yet. From a PvE perspective.

Geez, it's the Plasmonic Leech and Aceton Assimilator threads all over again. "Oh noes, its sooooo OP, save us Cryptic" Chill. First, everyone can use it without Cryptic resorting to cheap tactics like they did with cross-faction lockboxes. It's half as powerful as a subnuc beam. There are a whole host of other aspects being put into place that people can complain about and they choose the one that looks the scariest, but in reality will barely make a blip when it comes to combat.

Well okay I guess if you are in end game PVP and are in weak gear and have no clue what you are doing, then sure it might be a problem and if that's the case, get some better gear and practice, you will do fine.

Shaman in WoW could use Purge to strip buffs and Shocks to school lock you, not one power but both were instant casts with only the global cooldown to separate them. The shock had a massive 6 second cooldown.

Sub nuke has always been a saving grace of balance in pvp, it makes setups that are otherwise fairly immortal actually killable with teamwork and prevent even worse long drawn out stalemates from occurring, more could actually only be good.

Ever heard of this duty officer named Keel'el? He's a good thing, removing subnuc and all. What about that nifty ability called science team? Removes it too. Guess what, all your problems are solved.

So true As a long term sci officer i always found sub nuke at par at best ever since Keel el the doff i siad doom but look what happened. literally that day Keel 'el was introduced i ranted over a hour on how that screwed sci. But we all adapted. And sorry i like the nuke. some people would say doom just to say doom. Fact is i hope this leads to more people flying there sci in game. Then seeing a fleet of tactical escorts and cruisers

I, no more than a fortnight ago, created a, now 50, sci toon for the purpose of subnuc and trolling PvP. An absolute control build. I do think that sci's need a little bit of a buff to equalize with the powers of alpha and the like, kinda even the field. I think it'll bring a couple sci's out of mothball. We just havens lot of people on the forums who don't quite understand about how powers work, then call doom because they don't run science team, for example. It's just like Beta for tacs, cleared by tactical team.
