Saucer Seperation on Galaxy-X not working

because my toon on tribble was copied in for LoR testing over a year and a half ago, I was able to use my 600 day token, which I didn't have at the time of LoR open Beta, to buy a the exploration cruiser refit and use the saucer separation console on the Galaxy-X the toon already had.
The separation animation plays, but, where I should have a free flying saucer pet, I get a saucer that has suddenly snapped back into place.
the only change I get is that the Spinal Phaser Lance does switched to "Sawed off Shotgun Mode", but I'm still flying a whole ship, not half a ship like I should be.
OK that last part came out weird.
I have tried this on more than one day, in more that one location, so this is not a one time glitch.
