What Intelligence vessels remind me of (other than TRON)

You know, as soon as I heard the term intelligence vessel at tier 6 I was reminded of a series of custom made ships for Star Trek Legacy.

The Section 31 line of fan-made ships.

This is an example:

There are more ships on the site, like the Section 31 Akira, Constitution and Excelsior to name a few. There are even some "re-purposed" Klingon ships like the Negh'Var which could have been used as an inspiration for KDF intelligence ships.

All these are is basically a darkened hull with some red windows, blue phasers and slightly more purple-ish warp nacelles. It was simple, but I thought they look cool. A bit more stealthy, while maintaining the look of familiar ships, but with different weapons. Whether or not they could cloak I'm not sure, but I think they might have been able to do that as well.

I just wish Cryptic would have gone this route. It would provide our favorite classics with completely new stats, a unique hull material and plenty of interest, as these are canon ships with a twist.

I dunno, these could have been a nice alternative for what we are going to get IMO.
Or maybe its something to add later? There should be some canon ships at tier 6 in some shape or form I think.

Problem is that they are probably not allowed to use ships from other games and if they would they would probably need to buy the rights to use them. But yeah it would nice to have some iconic ships that are Section 31 ships.

Thing is Section 31 making ships makes very little sense, they are ghosts, the erase their entire existance from record, the idea of them Constructing or Modifying ships leaving behind all the Evidence of their existance?

That strikes me as silly , a super secret organisation using sleeper agents and "Men in Black" compramises its entire secrecy by Starting up Shipyards? Ones that could be found by Starfleet, or infiltrated by the Tal Shiar, or Klingon Intellignece?

They make more sense as sleeper cells, they don't have a secret archive in a Headquarters that somebody might find, sure I can believe that Section-31 might pull strings to get a new ship built more closely to their desired application, but they are unlikely to be able commission their own new designs easily

They manipulate others to get use of things, If Section 31 needs a ship, they most likely borrow one, manipulating senior Officers to get it where they need it

Starfleet Intelligence on the other hand, as an Official department, could well be involved in classified Ship production with the backing and resources allocated to them by the Federation council so they make perfect sense

That is correct, but STO already has plenty of rather non-sensical stuff in it. Iconic ships with alternate skins and stats are the least of my concern lol

Either way, we're talking about Starfleet (or to be specific, Allied) Intelligence. Section 31 is its own splinter operation that works within and outside of Starfleet.

While I like canon Trek as much as the next fan, I'm actually happy to see new designs, whether they all agree with me or not.

These ships are probably from the Starfleet Intelligence side of Starfleet....just like how Starfleet Science has ships and Starfleet Medical has ships.

Maybe if the Crew mechanic was more important to ship function, Medical Ships might well be a viable future specialised class

Well, in the phase cloak thread, a dev strongly hinted at the possibility that the Federation would be getting more cloaking vessels thanks to Section 31. So here we have ships obviously modeled off of the aesthetics of the Vengeance, with cloaks, and intelligence officer boff seating. Seems to heavily hint at Section 31's involvement to me.

Starfleet Intelligence is not Section 31. Section 31 is illegal. Section 31 kidnapping people and interrogating them without permission of the court. They murdered someone. Section 31 has no ship , but I think that if necessary they could dominate any (like U.S.S. Vengeance). It is certainly enough admirals in Starfleet what would it enabled like Marcus , Satie , Dougherty, Cartwright, Pressman, Leyton, Jameson and sometimes Janeway, Ross, Nechayeva too. No need Section 31 if you have people like this in command of Starfleet.

Current head of Starfleet Intelligence is former terrorist Chakotay (btw the worst written character in VOY imo), so we can expect anything.
