As the title really, do we think the Gaurdian class will support SS?

Um, NO. Not every ship needs Saucer Separation. SS was originally designed for EMERGENCY use only. As in, It was designed to get families to safety while the battle/drive section fought the threat. I really hope Crptic takes AWAY the Saucer sep on the Galaxy-X and not put it on the new ships.

Surely such a feature is needed more than ever in the delta quadrant?

I hope it does have SS.

No the feature is completely unnecessary in the Delta Quadrant, don't take civilians.

The Enterprise D was an Explorer in a peaceful time, the idea of getting the civilians out made sense. But as we saw in DS9 if there aren't any civilians on the ship there is no need to detach a piece of it.

I know we all have Civilian DOFFs aboard, because there is no penalty for that in game. Realistically even an Admiral wouldn't be hauling around a bunch of Diplomats, Traders, Bartenders, Chefs and other assorted superfluous DOFFs every where they went.

But hey some people have a couple hundred DOFFs on a ship with a crew of 30.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001.
If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why.
When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.

I've always thought of DOffs as officers/civilians under your command, regardless of whether they are on your ship or not. They're just people who you can call up and tell to go somewhere to do something, whether they're on your ship or not.

Looking at the concept art, particularly the side profile, I do have to wonder if they're gonna let us use Galaxy skins on the Guardian. Probably not, but I can't rule it out 100%, and such a feature would sell a LOT of Guardians.

The Connie separation and the Galaxy Separation are quite different. Also look at all the Escape Pods our ships have on them now days.

And in game it's a Tactical Saucer separation rather than a protect the civilians thing.

I'm sure if the Guardian doesn't do it a new T6 Cruiser will come along that does.

Well, the description of the Guardian is that it's multi-role, couple that with the potential lifespan of the ship I would say its short sighted to assume it doesn't have SS.

Just because it was designed primarily for the Delta quadrant, doesn't mean that's where all Guardians will live for the rest of their lives.

I'm sure many a Guardian will have their saucers separated from their hulls in Ker'rat...

No, because we send warships and battleships and warbirds and intel ships to the delta quadrant, not the loveboat in space.

I hope the Guardian is nothing like the Galacy (with just 2 Tac slots).. Does anyone really use the Exploration Cruiser? I see a lot of Dreadnoughts with the off-center lance but not many Galaxys flying around.

But i agree that it should have SS (Ships should have SS, sounds weird from a German)

Every Ship should have a Sauver Sep but most ships have no seperate Impulse Drive so the other Section would be drifting in space (Ambassador, Sovereign,Excelsior)

I would welcome a Saucer Sep feature smilar to the Ramming speed featuer or others. If you are close to go BOOM you press that button and if yu hull gets to 0 you seperate the saucer Section and loose the Eng section, your Hull would be back to 100% but have lower strenght than the complete ship . You would get a + in Turnrate and Impulse speed but loose Torpedoes, keep only Phasers as weapons. So you can stay in the fight for a whille and if the saucer explodes too you respawn as a complete ship again.

Ambassador Class ships would get An impulse drive from somewhere or just be stationary Platforms.

I hope it has a galaxy skin because if it does I would be willing to buy it. Then again have a console layout of
    4 tac
    4 eng
    3 science

I'd be in favour of that. Thr separation mechanic is supposed to be a specialty of Starfleet design and should be used much more.

Why? It does neither look cool nor adds a tactical advantage if used by just about any ship... the only ship with tactical seperation should remain the Prometheus or any ship in that design lineage... combat oriented tactical vessels... not Multi-Role Explorers on the Fringe of Dark Space.

Wether or not it "looks cool" is a matter of taste and the tactical advantage is a given. You got one ship, make it two (or one and a half). Of course, as long as pet AI doesn't recieve any attention they are indeed worthless. But if I would have simple controls over my pet saucer and could tell it to tractor beam a certain enemy or deploy an antimatter spread (which right now it does on *random* occasions, even if no enemy is around. Who came up with that?) I could put it to use.

That over obsession with cool looking, tactical battleships has to stop in my opinion. Such auxilliary craft and pets help ships with less direct combat capability like science and cruisers best, just like a hunter's pet in other games. We should also have a choice to equip and "train" our pets to a certain degree.
