Diagnose Tool?

I've been flying an Odyssey cruiser for quite some time now. Over the years, I've souped it up with decent weapons, consoles, etc., and it has become a formidable ship that I'm happy with. And for the record, I think I've come a long way from the person who just hit random keys on my keyboard, hoping something would fire. I actually do have a little strategy to my gameplay.

That said, I've never been a person who could really devote the time to comparing all of the available specs in all of the available equipment. My build has pretty much been trial and error and some dumb luck.

So I decided to shake things up and use my MVA ship (another Tier 5 ship) because I wanted to go heavy on dual heavy cannons. I did almost a complete swap of equipment between the two ships (with some obvious changes in weapon configuration and consoles).

This new ship sucks! There seems to be a massive power drain on weapons. Neither my shields nor my hull last long at all, even though I've got the same shields I had on my Odyssey cruiser. I know they're two different ships with different stats, but I wasn't expecting such a dramatic change in performance.

This may be a dumb question, but is there some sort of diagnostic tool out there so you can input all of your build parameters, and the thing says: "yup - here's your problem".

not that I am aware of. chances are it's just you need to adjust to flying the MVAE. remember your cruiser has a higher shield multiplier than your escort, so you don't have as much shield. ditto hull. in an escort, speed is life.

post up your ship specs and the escort pros will chime in.

First and foremost, you have some horribly mis-matched equipment and Boff skills. All of your energy weapons should be of the same type and you should get 4 tactical consoles to match. Get rid of the SIF generator, EPS regulator, and bio monitor, these things are useless. Move the Mvam to a science slot. Engineering consoles should be neutronium armor and RCS accelerator. you should also get the assimilated console and the romulan console from reputation to replace your shield consoles.

As far as weapons are concerned, you should have 4 dual heavy cannons up front, or 3 DHC and a torpedo / beam bank. and for rear weapons you want at least 2 turrets.

For tactical bridge officer abilities you should have 2 copies of tactical team 1 and you should keep these up at all times. then for the higher ranks you should have attack pattern omega 3 in your commander slot, dispersal patterns are for mines and you aren't using any. As far as your remaning Lt.cmdr, 2x Lt, and third ensign slots, these will depend on your weapon choices. you want 2 copies of cannon rapid fire or cannon scatter volley, and depending on whether you chose torpedos or beams for the front weapon you want 2x your favorite torpedo special or 2x beam overload. or you could even slot an extra attack pattern. you will have to determine which of these you find most useful.

Engineering abilities look ok for doing PvE, Emergency power to shields is a must. consider switching to EP2S2 and ET1.

Science abilities should be, Hazard emitters 1, Sci team 2, and either gravity well or tractor beam. tachyon beam is fairly useless.

Lastly, and maybe least important are your 3 piece borg set and warp core. The 3 piece borg set is nice but works much better on cruisers. I would suggest getting rid of the borg shield for a maco or elite fleet resilient shield, and in time replace the engine and deflector with the counter command set. As for your warp core, I am sorry to say you bought the wrong one. I suggest a Spire "plasma integrated" warp core for the Efficiency bonus, Driver coil is useless outside of sector space, but any fleet core with [AMP] will serve you much better than one with [EWS].

Finally power levels matter. you complained about too much weapon drain and shield failures. keeping weapon power at 125 will help protect you against weapon drain and keeping your shield power high (especially with a regenerative shield like the borg shield) will keep them stronger with both better damage resistance and shield regeneration.
[Combat (Self)] Your Crystalline Refraction - Phaser deals 398195 (682959) Phaser Damage to Evul Klingon.
