I am marginally aware of Blizzard's Hearthstone, but am not really familiar with its purchase/pay structure. I wish Extra Credits had taken 30 seconds longer to fully identify it, before going on to why it is so good.
That said, good video, and an excellent point.
I'm certainly not a "whale", and though I have several F2P games on my computer, I always feel like I'm working the margins and not fully engaged, simply because I can't afford to shell out hundreds, or I have to grind so long to get in-game currency to get what's needed. I've actually gone back to the $15/month plan on games before simply because I can then fully engage in the game (except maybe for some elite cosmetic items).
I'm wondering if the next great step is something halfway between F2P and the old pay-per-month structure.
Note : PWE / Cryptic NOT mentioned in the end list ! - Wonder why????
Probably because Crytpic and PWE tend to stay off the radar with their games. The only noteable games they have is Neverwinter and STO, and Neverwinter keeps getting confused with D&D Online, so most people don't know it exists without looking.

I poured thousands into this game, mainly because i supported it and was a trek fan, i knew the budget was slim so i invested the best i could..like a fan donating money for a movie idea. I didnt even need anything, i used 90% my zen to help my old fleet with dilithium, i bought starter packs for fleetmates and friends, when new players began i set em up. I just gave tons of keys stuff away even for my foundry reviews, my main point was to invest in a trek game that gave me a trek experience....its not been that for a while now, arc was the last straw, i imagine not a one of the people i supported all these years in this company even knew i existed, let alone I did the best i could to keep em going and bring as many as i could to the game....especially the fat cat at the top, who probably isnt even a trek fan!
pwe reminds me of Galactus, not really anyone can stop him, he just travels from world to world draining the life from them and then on to the next...but im most saddened by what they did to STO, angry infact, i feel i might as well have just dropped all that cash down a well to rot for how things turned out, especially their snake oil salesman attitude towards us....
