ok can anyone tell me how come i cant train my crew in new stuff
it says that that crew member can learn the skill but then it says not available to use??
what am i doing wrong
certain skabilities are only trainable by captains, and those abilities are only accessed through putting skill ranks into specific captain skills. and they are careeer specific.
so there are certain things that might be the problem.
1. the station the bo has the ability for isnt the right level. IE putting a sci boff with Gravity well 3 in a lt. commander max sci station.
2. bo isn't leveled up to the right rank.
3. you want to train a BO in a skill that you need a specific boff (some skills are only learned from other bridge officers) or a specific captain career to teach. Note: some bridge officers arent tradable, so some ksills they will be out of luck to learn.
ok well im totally screwed now trying to ge new bo i promoted them to high could you please tell me what ones to get or direct me to a place i can ive bought some and promoted to proper ranks but cant train in any thing:mad:
ok you're kinda not making any sense...how about this:
1) what faction are you? Romulan Fed? Romulan KDF? Fed? KDF?
2) what class are you? tactical, science, or engineer?
3) what is the race of the boff you are trying to train?
4) what kind of boff are they? tac, eng, sci boff?
5) are you trying to train them while they are still on your candidate list? or are they on your active boff list? Hit U at the top of the window hit STATIONS. Is the name of the boff on the right side? the candidate list? or is their name on the left side? your active list? (same place your name is, your ship name and your shuttle name is).
5) how are you trying to train them? is your captain training them? are you at the boff trainer NPC? or are you using a candidate to "train up" one of your active boffs?
The first thing you need to know is whether that ability is trained by captains, or by special bridge officers, or if any trainer can do it. For that, look at this page.
We need some context to be able to help you. From what you said, I thought it might be to do with the bridge officer stations. Some background/clarification points first might be in order:
Bridge Officers: The maximum number of bridge officers (boffs) you are able to have (hit the key, "U" in the game to bring up your 'status window', and you can only have as many boffs as you have available slots. A used slot has the boff's name, and an open slot is greyed out with "(no officer)" in it)
Bridge Stations: The maximum number, and type, of bridge officers and skills your ship is able to have (again, under "U", and in the "Stations" tab, it shows the number and type of stations your ship has, type being both the career of tac, eng, sci or universal; and the rank being Ensign, Lt, Lt Commander, or Commander)
Bridge Officer Ranks: The maximum rank your boffs can be promoted to, is determined by your own rank (basically, you can promote up to your own rank minus one, up to a rank for boffs of Commander; bridge officers must be promoted up to use an ability)
Bridge Officer Abilities: The type of skills your boffs can have is what their career is, and who can train what is dependent on what the skill is (see this listing in the Wiki)
What this means in plain-speak, is that the number of boffs you have available is not connected to the number of bridge stations you have for them to sit in; nor does a bridge officer's rank have any bearing on the nature of the bridge station they're sitting in. Likewise, your own rank has no real bearing on the available bridge officer stations (i.e. if a Vice Admiral goes into a Miranda, they'd still only have 3 Ensign-Level bridge stations).
As a practical example, many of us have all our boffs at Commander level purely so they have all four of their ground abilities available on away missions. But, when they're sitting at an "Ensign-level" bridge station, they can only use that single, Ensign-Level space skill.
You'll still see the ability, and hovering over it, the ability will be in red text and say, "Cannot use this rank of power in this station". The reason for this is so that you can easily see what your boffs have available for you to 'toggle' bridge officers between two similar-career stations (e.g. two Tactical boffs, both Commander, one in an Ensign station, the other in a Commadner station, you can see what the ensign-station one has and if it's more suitable for this mission, swap the two around) during "Green Alert" and get to use that ability the next time you're in Red Alert.

im a fed vice admiral im trying to get the best i can im at starfleet trying to pick whos best for each pos and abilitys bought some but they wouldnt train to right levels:(
From the sounds of it you need to understand how ability ranks and bridge seating restrictions play a role.
Each bridge officer as you know has up to four ability slots, Ensign, Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander, and Commander for ground and space individually. At each rank there is a different set of abilities that can be placed in each slot. For example Science Team I can ONLY be placed in a science officer's Ensign ability slot. The various ranks to each ability serve as a way of having some flexibility in how you arrange your setup for each officer. For example, Science Team III exists as a Lieutenant Commander ability if you want something else in the officer's Ensign and Lieutenant slots.
Now as for bridge seating, this is a restriction based on the type of ship you're flying. Each bridge station has a rank associated with it and while the game won't stop you from placing a higher ranked officer in them, you'll only be able to access their abilities as high as the station they're at allows. For example a Commander Tactical officer seated at a lieutenant station will only have access to his lieutenant abilities while assigned there.

Ok well you didnt answer 3, 4, 5 and uhhhh 5 on my list (that last one was supposed to be 6 obviously, but whatevs).
First make sure when you are buying a bridge officer from the exchange that it is fed and not a kdf...this much is obvious. When you buy a boff at first they will become a candidate. Sometimes what happens is you buy a boff from the exchange right? when you close the exchange window, a new window will sometimes pop up asking if you want the boff you just purchased to "train up", "join" or "not now". If you click not now they go to your boff candidate list (you have room for 12 total). If you click train up you can use that boff as a trainer to train one of your other active boffs. If you click join now then they join your active boff list and can be put into ship stations, shuttle stations and on away teams.
Hit U, along the top edge of the window that comes up you will see several buttons...status, skills, traits, stations and reputation...click on the STATIONS button. On the left you will see your name, your ships name, your shuttle name (if you own one) and your bridge officers. In the middle you will see your ships stations, the rank of abilities each one can use, then your shuttle stations, then your away team. On the right side you will see the Bridge Officer Candidate list. OK now look back on the left side at the active boff list. Click on one of your active bridge officers right now, doesnt matter who it is. Click their name to highlight them. When they are highlighted at the top edge of the window click on SKILLS. You will see that bridge officers ground skills and space skills. You can put bars/points into stuff from this window. If the name of the ability is greyed out then you might have to promote the boff first. At the bottom you will see available skill points, spent, and how many skill points that boff has. To the right of that you will see some other buttons Promote, Accept, Reset. In order to promote a boff you first have to spend some points. Add just a few bars then hit accept...keep doing this until the PROMOTE button lights up. When that happens click on promote and that boff will get promoted and you can now add skill points into the next tier of abilities that was greyed out. Then same thing again...keep adding points until the promote button lights up then promote them again. Keep doing this until Ensign, Lt, Lt Cdr, and Cdr abilities are all unlocked.
Now if you want to train your boffs in different abilities take a look at the link below. It is a screenshot of Earth Space Dock, looking right at Admiral Quinns office. I made the minimap bigger so you can also see where i am standing on ESD. Admiral Quinn is circled in yellow and the BRIDGE OFFICER TRAINER is circled in blue. You can also get training from other players, and your captain can also do some training. To get training from another player take the active boff, take all of the boffs gear off, and you can now trade the boff to another player for training. If you want to see what your captain can train then hit U, at the top edge hit STATUS, and on the left side make sure your name is clicked. You will see your picture in the middle along with your gear and stuff. At the bottom you will see two buttons Edit Record and Train Officer. Click Train Officer and you can train your boffs on some abilities. If you are a Tactical captain you can train your Tac boffs, but not your Science or Engineering boffs. If you are a Engineering captain you can only train your Eng boffs not your Sci or Tac boffs. The boff trainer NPC i mentioned before though? they can train most abilities for Sci, Tac and Eng boffs, but a few special ones you have to get trained from player captains either yourself or another captain.

Okay real simple...
#1 - What is your specialization? (Engineering / Science / Tactical)
#2 - What specialization is the bridge officer you wish to train?
#3 - Which specific ability are you trying to train?
