ARCed out of STO

So okay I got a new computer with Windows 8 and since Craptic went with the ARC and no longer uses the single Client Launcher .exe I had to install ARC then download the game. However the STO Launcher will not load all I get is a window with a black screen and the words Loading: Please Wait and I have waited for like 2 f*cking hours and still the the Launcher does not load for me to Update and/or Engage into the game.

I have uninstalled/reinstaled the game and ARC a few times as well as used the repair function of the Install Wizard and still no STO game launch.

So can one of the A**holes at Carptic tell me why they made such a F*cked up system as ARC (ARC = A Real Catastrophy).

There are ways one can reinstall STO without using ARC(Google is your friend.) That said, since it appears you have a fresh install of Windows 8.1; have you checked the Windows Firewall and Defender settings to be sure something isn't blocking communication between the launcher and Cryptic's servers? (And no, just because some other online games work fine for you - if that is indeed the case - it doesn't mean something isn't blocking communication with Cryptic.)

I must say, I'm disappointed with the completely lacklustre and bugged Mac client for the game but I'm thankful that there's no ARC for Mac. ARC on Mac would be the final, rusted, 12 inch nail in the coffin for me.

For those that must use ARC, I offer my sincere and heartfelt condolences. Nobody should have to use such a rubbish system. Not even the klinks deserve that kind of punishment.

actually I installed the ARC and the game like 4 days ago. The first 2 dayss it worked okay and after 1 day of not playing I tried today and it won't launch. There have been NO CHANGES to my Firewall or Window settings in that 1 day I wasn't playing, hell the computer wasn't even turned on for that day so must be a problem with the ARC which never seemed to work right on my other computer with Neverwinter. ARC just completely Sucks and isn't even worthy of being in Beta testing.

I get the problem, why not just use the Steam client instead?, most people seem to have issues with Arc but tend to stick to Steam for STO mostly unless there's the rare Arc giveaway. :rolleyes:

Actually I been having Issues with ARC and Neverwinter and asked for help with that with little to no satisfaction so yeah insults are well deserved here.

You can also download STO from Steam if you wanted.
You do not need Steam to be running in order to play STO.

bad news friends... it's not arc, I've been using it since it came out without problem. and my computer has problems with everything.

Thanks when I used that link I was back into STO within 2 minutes if not faster then using what was Downloaded by ARC which proves ARC is a Horrendously and Ill conceived idea and the Developers of it should be dragged out of their homes and shot.

Gameclient.exe (aka, the standalone launcher) can be launched from the STO install folder just like it used to. You don't have to open ARC to launch STO, even if you installed ARC.

The launcher is still there, but ARC's install doesn't put the shortcut on your desktop, you gotta go to the STO folder and make your own shortcut. I've been using my own shortcut all weekend and not using ARC to launch the game. Thankfully the first few time I did use ARC to launch- it qualified me for a free costume just for using ARC.
