Places in Crystaline Catasrophe Event

lyran2lyran2 Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Question:

The last few times I played the CC event I managed to get 3rd place. Other than getting notified that I actually placed in the event (which i didn't know that the system kept a tally) I haven't noticed anything special.

Is there supposed to be a reward for placing in the event? If so, what is it exactly?

Thanks

Higher quality drops for placing. One purple item if second, 2 purple items and a trophy if first. Scoring is based on damage dealt, number of targets damaged, and healing.

So pretty much get a romulan ship (warbird) equipped with the Valdore console (damage converted to shield heals) and high dps configuration. Shoot at everything and everyone and collect 1st place.

Some sci captains and torpedo boats can probably out-dps or out-heal you. But its not often that you see those on public queues.

I usually take 3rd, sometimes second in my queue,... don't know don't care what their for,... long as I get my shards,...

Oh, and I mostly ignore the fragments unless I have a ew following me around that won't go away.

I have a sci captain running a plasma torp build who regularly places 1st. Spamming plasma mines and Torp spread really racks up the damage on all those unshielded targets.

My Fed Sci, Lenara seem to always get at least third, rarely does she not place. Shear number of heals, debuffs and stuff she puts out gives her something in that one. That's a great one for sci's.

Now that the EC nerf is activated, it doesnt matter if you are first or third. The stuff you will get is not giving you anything at all. You could always sell in the exchange the purple items, but as i said, right now, its even a waste of time. I am first most of the times and i always discard all the purple items i get. I have nothing to do with em anyways xd. Unless it is a purple mkXII, depends on what it is, but generally i even discard most of em.

Purple weapons and tactical consoles still sell well. The rest doesn't, but they didn't before, either.

Of my 6 toons, I can usually get half of them to place 1st. My Vesta and my Scimitar get it most often. Most of the rewards are Mk X or Mk XI Sci consoles so no one gives a damn about them on the Exchange, so you're not missing much.

Today, by bests were a 2nd and 4 Thirds. Either people are bringing better builds (finally) or I was off my game today! :D My builds aren't even tailored for the CE... other than mounting an extra torpedo forward. Usually the Har'peng one or the Omega Rep Plasma Torp (I love it w/ Spread 3!)
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

I got first when the new CE was launched. Now I just kill it and get my shard.

I do this exact thing on my Scimitar and yes.. works everytime. The only time I don't get 1st is if there are other Scimitars doing the same thing.

Most of the time it just gives me 2 purple items that fetch between 2-5k EC each.

Yep this pretty much. I've seen my reman tac with the Fleet mogai and valdore console get consistently 1st place compared to my better geared non-republic toons! He doesn't even have fleet weapons (just elachi ones) and has mission reward gear for the rest of the slots! I sometimes wonder how well he might end up if I took the time to gear him out properly.

The only other toon that beats my reman is my sci romulan (no surprise!) in a Tvaro Torp boat.

Do have a Ferasan Sci in the fleet Varanus as well and he tends to come on top as well. I attribute this to his repair drones and massive heals he can output as well.

I had a few first places, but frankly im not too concerned by the placing, all im looking for is the shard get through 10 toons before i come so calm that i start feel like i want to sleep right there in the middle of such a fight. so the sooner the ce is down the sooner can get them completed and end this torture each day.

Why not do Normal CC instead of CCE then?

    Thanks

you get THIS TROPHY. thats the trophy wall in my ships mess hall.

fleet Tor'Kaht all cannon build almost always gets 1st.

trick is dont shoot shards. large blow up and smalls return back to entity and heal and buff it. more large you shoot the more of them respawn . so just kill the damn entity and ignore everything else all while healing.

dont use fire at will. dont use torp spread.

Whilst ignoring the shards and killing the entity makes sense so that no more spawn there are still plenty of idiots running the mission at the moment who don't even try to avoid the shards. Not shooting them is one thing, letting them hit you repeatedly it stupid.

Last night we had some clown in an Attrox tanking them at point blank range from the entity, but that just meant all the small shards his actions were spawning were going right back into the entity before anyone could kill them. Consequently its re-crystallization was ridiculously high by the time we did eventually kill it.

I ignore any shards not directly going after me, unless i see a teammate who is getting mobbed and needs help. As soon as I've got a few after me though i draw them away from the entity then either tank the hits and kill the small shards before they get a chance to get near the entity again or kill the large ones straight off.

my tactic is the same across all my toons tac, sci and engineer no matter the ship i even get 1st in a 6 gun Brel. but you have to heal and ignore all the shards. even if they are coming at you. the amount of damage you do to the entity in the time it takes you to target and destroy the shards is more than a couple will heal if you just let then bounce off you. but when you try and target them your not only risking healing the entity if some get away from you but your also NOT doing damage to the entity. . so just ignore them and the entity dies fast . or waste time trying to hit the shards. it is counter productive.

because there is mark reward to consider, that adds on top of the dilthium reward at the end. 50:500 nakura:dil.
