I agree also, the ship giveaway should have worked like the others. KDF could claim Fed Bridges and vice versa - no level requirements.
I guess it came down to Cryptic having to write some special code to overrule the current ship claiming requirements. They didn't do this but they should have at least put the level requirements in their blog. That would have given us a few days to grind up for the free ships.
You mean like the Risian, Dyson, Steamrunner, and a boatload of Romulan ships that my low level characters have in boxes they can't use until they get to level 40? Hmm, golly, imagine that.
Those are boxed ships by design. The C store ships that are not purchased as a pack bundle are NOT boxed. Boxed ships can be picked up by anyone, hence the point of that Legacy pack. They have never taken a C store ship, boxed it, and handed it out like candy on Halloween...
And it's pretty arrogant to assume that everyone who plays the game understands level requirements and how it affects which ships you can and cannot buy in the C-Store (especially if you've never actually bought a ship from the C-Store, which I imagine would be quite a large percentage of players in a F2P game). Which is why it should have been explicitly stated in the blog that there was a level requirement. Either that, or use a method of distribution that results in a box so that any level can claim it.
There is an old saying "Ignorance of the law is not an excuse" and the same rings true here. Just because YOU don't know the rules does not make you exempt from them. They don't have to explicitly state anything unless they actually change the rules, which in the circumstance of the Varanus class, did not happen.
It's not a difficult concept to grasp. Don't tell people you're giving away something free to everyone for 5 days and then gate it with a heretofore-unmentioned level requirement. I'm sorry you don't understand this is poor form, but your lack of comprehension of the fundamental issue is not my problem.
It's not poor form, it's how the real world works. the are rules and regulations. You don't know them? too bad.
I'm reading the blog right now, and the fact that it was "For everyone" is an assumption on your part that turned out to be wrong. It does not say that anywhere. You assumed and you got caught in that assumption.
Everywhere I look, people are screaming about how bad Cryptic is.
What's my position?
That people should know what they're screaming about!
