The Fleet Ambassador costs 4 FSM

riccardo171riccardo171 Member Posts: 1,802 Arc User
So, I went to the ship requisitions to buy the Fleet Ambassador. However, it still costs 4 FSM, when a ship, if owned in the C-Store, costs 1 FSM.

Funny thing is that the Fleet Varanus, the free ship for KDF side, now costs 1 FSM for me.

So, what the hell?

The support ambassador is labeled as a promotional item. After the giveaway it may not be available anymore?

My main fed engi cannot collect the ship, it doesn't appear at all in the c-store, but my fed tac could. Likely an issue with available ship slots. Or maybe because I already have one (retrofit) on that character from the original Temporal Ambassador mission.

No surprise. They did not change pricing on the Fleet Support Cruiser Retrofit to recognize the giveaway. You know this is a basic 9-console ship, no console or anything. Its not really something that would count unless they were being really generous and come on, this is a troll ship given that the Mirror Heavy Cruiser is essentially the same ship.

Also, the Support Cruiser Retrofit is not in the shipyard, and is only available from the c-store under the temporary giveaway. Claim it on everybody you want to have it, today.

It's because the Ambassador is not a C-Store ship. It's an anniversary ship limited edition that was made availible for Fed players only for today.
I have this same ship on other chars since the 3-rd anniversary and it still costed me 4 FSM for the fleet one.

Once unlocked for the account it will be available to reclaim from the Store. Looks like they added Promotional Item to it to prevent any FSM discounts.

NOTE: Claiming this option unlocks this ship for all Federation characters on an account.
Once you own the ship, if it has been discharged, it can be reclaimed via the C-Store or at Ship Requisitions.

However it looks like this is a lie since when you get it you have to get it for each fed it doesn't look perm unlocked

The blog stated account wide unlocks.

However, it makes no sense that the Varanus triggers the discount, while the Ambassador doesn't. By all rights, being one freely upgradable for 1 FSM, the other has to. It's just not fair.

And to anyone who feels like "you know how KDF feels now", keep these topics for yourselves.

Upgrade discounts are equal to base purchase cost. The ship is not sold for zen, so there is no base purchase cost. It never triggered free upgrade before. Why would it now? Just because they used c-store to give it away? You dream too big.

Varanus has a base purchase cost of 2000 zen. That is why you get a discount on Fleet Varanus.

Let's forget the fact that they gave it out for free one year and a half ago.

The Ambassador they gave us, being a C-Store ship even for a limited time, by all means triggers a discount to the fleet one. If the Varanus does, the Ambassador should as well.

Back when we had the anniversary, it was a mission reward ship. That makes sense not triggering discount on the Fleet variant. Now it's not anymore a mission reward ship.

If you could continue buying the ambassador tomorrow for 2000 zen, you would have a point. As of now it has no base purchase value to translate into discount.

Does the original cost really mater? I mean both ships are free today so to allow one to have a discount and not the other is not balanced at all. KDF players basically get a cheap way to a T5-U ship and fed players are left needing to pay 2000+ zen for a similar ship.

Surely they can code it so that the support cruiser gets a fleet discount, it really cannot be that hard to adjust the code for the c-store, the free giveaway shows it can be adjusted on a daily basis if required.

People been making that argument for 18 months. Fleet upgrade for Ambassador and Kamarag always cost the full nut. You could not even get the Retrofits for the past 18 months, at any price.

It's an entirely different ship. The Ambassador's counterpart is the Kamarag, which also doesn't get the FSM discount.
Last year they gave the Nebula, a ship that provides the FSM discount and the Marauder Patrol Cruiser - a ship that doesn't even have a fleet version. It has nothing to do with "fair". You're basically complaining about a free item they're giving you, because it doesn't give you even more benefits. *facepalm*

Or, to put it as simple as I can - payships provide FSM discounts. No one ever payed for this ship, it was free the first time, it's free in this promo, thus no FSM discount.

The hope was that it was being added as a c-store ship at this time (possibly along with the Kamarag); and so the FSM discount would be a thing for those ships now. Keeping a ship as 'promotional only' indefinitely doesn't really make a lot of sense, unless there is some third party deal involved like with the Steamrunner.

The Ambassador did turn out to be pretty well liked after all; it's not hard to imagine that Cryptic might want to start selling it.

    Very confusing!

Do I have to claim it with every FED char or is one enough to have it as account wide unlock in future?

It says it is account wide, buuut I am not sure if this is really true. I am afraid this is messed up.

And also it can be claimed by Fed-aligned Romulans as well. It would have been a good idea for them to have it in the C-Store tomorrow after the Promotion for 2,000 Zen. Would have given them another 'iconic' ship to sell, generate FSM sales to upgrade to Fleet version as more people are likely to upgrade for one rather than the ridiculous four per character. Could have generated both both T5 and Fleet Tier 5U upgrades for DR.
    .
I claimed it on all six Fed or Fed-aligned characters on my account. Will see how things work our in the C-Store tomorrow and if as advertised about Reclaims, then dismiss on a few of the character.

Thanks for testing, I did the same and will see what happens when I dismiss it on a char and post results here. But we actually need to know that today, not tomorrow... :(

It would be a real shame if they stick with no discount.

It's a real lost opportunity for Cryptic, offer an iconic ship and allow it to be made competitive at a reasonable price and you would have had guaranteed sales of FSM's and T5-U upgrades.

The ship is quite well liked by fans and it is one of the most versatile cruisers available on account of the Lt. Cmdr science slot. It would have been popular.

Seeing as nobody in their right mind is going to be buying any more T5 ships until they see what the T6 ones are like it would have generated sales for them, although at a reduced cost to the players.
Ship sales (especially the high end stuff) at the moment must be dying off pretty sharp i'd imagine. Nobody will blow all their zen on something that will be sub-par in a couple of months, but they'd maybe spend a bit less to get something almost as good.

Yes, it is. I had it on my main account, because I ran the original version of "Temporal Ambassador"; the emergency backup account didn't run that, so I had to claim the T5 Ambassador on that one today.

And yes, it's account-wide as well as permanent.

No it's not. The you get at the end of Temporal Ambassador is the T3 ship, today's giveaway is the T5 Retrofit. Different stats, different ship.

Let's pick this apart and mail the pieces to the four corners of the galaxy.

    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Support_Cruiser_Retrofit
This ship is a limited time reward, available to players who complete the mission “Temporal Ambassador” during the 3 Year Anniversary Event from January 31st to February 18th. It was also made available again on Monday September 1st, 2014 as part of the end of summer celebration.
This means it was originally an episode reward.

So........The T5 Ambassador from the giveaway doesn't give a fleet ship module discount, which means it's probably still considered an episode reward. It probably won't be available for purchase in the c-store for players who didn't get it for free today also.

And here we have a list of T5 ships that can be upgraded to T5U with Delta Rising http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/7002163

And at the bottom of the list
Tier 5 starships that have been omitted from this list, as they don’t qualify for an upgrade, are those that fall into one of the following categories:

Starships with a Dilithium or Rank-Up Token cost
Starships that cost Fleet Credits only
Starships that are awarded from completion of an episode
    Mirror Universe Starships

So we got a free T5 ship this close to Delta Rising launch that we'll probably never be able to upgrade.

    Clever girl, Cryptic.
