My name is Scott and I am going to be blunt with you. I have been very satisfied with Star Trek Online for the two years now that I have been a subscriber. I believe in contributing where it counts, and I believe one hand, in fact, washes the other!
My mother is dying. She has very little time left and it is the most painful thing I have ever felt. This is my reality check for you, Cryptic, the reality that Star Trek Online players are people! Sugar coating your words will not fool adult human beings like me. In fact, it hurts when anyone dose this.
I hurt enough as it is, and now my little evening break with Star Trek Online won't be cool to me anymore. I understand your in the business to make money but to not offer ways to take Starships that I favor, like the D7 and Ambassador, and provide them all the features, yes, features, is simply unacceptable.
Think long and hard about personal taste, Cryptic. Think long and hard about the real lives behind these accounts, like mine. I will pay for all these so-called bells and whistle, but it will be over my dead body before I play a ship that I do not favor.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
And to be blunt I think you're letting pain from your personal life leak out onto a MMO's upgrade scheme (you should try to refocus on what's important which is NOT STO).
Anyway what you're not getting with T5-U is a couple of powers. Unless they change the focus of the entire game to revolve around specialist boffs and what you unlock at ship master 5 you won't be severely inconvenienced by what T6 gets and the old ships don't much like you weren't severely inconvenienced by singularity powers, Dyson Destroyer dual modes AND its secondary deflector, or fleet ships when those were first introduced (and that was a much more significant overhaul because it locked away the major stat upgrade behind shipyard tiers and cryptic's choice of refit [which is still leaving several C-store ships out].)
What T6 is getting is, almost by definition, ancillary. In having a T5-U cryptic is showing that they don't expect everyone to buy into the new class of ships though what you get from them may be nice. It's glitter paint, tassles, bells and whistles. If you want that you're free to pony up for it. If you don't, don't. Cryptic is certainly trying to accommodate you (while still maintaining that upgrades, be it to doffs, equipment, or starship tier, should cost resources.)

Completely wrong. T5-U is going to be markedly inferior to T6, for the obvious reason: Cryptic wants to sell T6 ships. If there is only minimal difference between T5-U and T6, no one will bother buying T6 ships if they have upgradeable T5s.
Cryptic is disingenuously minimizing the difference in order to avoid getting more flack, but it's just a smokescreen.
"Participation in PVP-related activities is so low on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis that we could in fact just completely take it out of STO and it would not impact the overall number of people [who] log in to the game and play in any significant way." -Gozer, Cryptic PvP Dev

No offence dude, but what does the fact that your mother is dying have to do with this game?
None taken. I am simply pointing out that, like you and I and everyone else, we all have real lives and entertainment companies, all business for that matter, should show more respect and not use slight of hand terminology to describe a major upgrade that cannot be purchased unless you settle for their choose of model.
Do you let a dealer pick your car type and color? Hell No!

but what are they picking out for you?
the 50-60 content can be played with out current ships.
T5U and T6 are optional...not required to play save for a few ESTFs
and as for the T6 ships we've only seen 5 of the 7-10 that will be released.
Your pain runs deep.
Let us explore it... together. Each man hides a secret pain. It must be exposed and reckoned with. It must be dragged from the darkness and forced into the light. Share your pain. Share your pain with me... and gain strength from the sharing.

Cryptic is excluding everyone from the "The Bells and Whistles" who don't get lucky enough to have their beloved T5 ship graced with T6 status. I pay for this game and yet I don't feel they are offering me all of this game.
I understand your frustration and I'm sympathetic about your mother dying (my mother in law has ALS so it's a long, very hard road for me and my husband) so don't think I'm not, and I do get gaming is a great stress release valve for a lot of people.
That said, thread closed.
