Anyone remember PvP in this game back in the old days, in the first few months after release?
Back then lots of people were leveling a toon and some of us old-time PvPers were doing it by PvP alone. The queues were full at every rank, matches popping in quick succession.
Of course that was before the PvP skill point reward nerf, before universal magic consoles, before FvF(yay universal queues), before field generators, before the hull and shield buff, before A2B, before singularity cores, before rep etc etc etc.
But lets forget that for a second.
Does anyone think we'll see this again when the level cap is raised? Does anyone think 50-60 PvP matches will reward skill points in an amount that will make it worthwhile?
I would be very surprised if you could go from lvl 50 to 60 by doing pvp, no matter how long it might take. Not to mention how quickly lvl 50 queues will be empty, if they work at all after release.
Pvp will remain relatively the same. The point of saturation has long since past. All that there is now is the haves acquiring the latest. Greatest boons to pvp before casuals even get the chance.
Recent example? Crafting traits....beams at 3% final damage, engineering damage reduction on use of engineering abilities, and so on.
There may be new toys, pvp as a whole will remain the same
Anyone remember PvP in this game back in the old days...
Anyone?
What, no one?
U mean the time of SNB and TS:X stacks, VM putting cd on powers, on a 10+ minutes with shields down, ping pong PSW, FBP working only against beams, doing 10k dmg per pulse..etc. Oh and...sciscort owning tacscort and engscort (yeah we had that fights, remember?) times...that can come back ...
edit: CSV one salvo - dead team? FAW with dbbs doing insane dmg? 8)
edit 2: Me hunting minimax in my sci defiant, and then the rage...^^ target engines 3, and tbr... memories keep coming back:)

You cannot let go of that if you want balanced PvP to be back. (Was it ever a thing to begin with?)
No amount of level raising (alone) will fix all the bad stuff implemented over the last few Seasons.
I wouldn't get any hopes up regarding a level cap increase and it certainly won't bring back the old days, they are gone.
What it will do is keep people busy for a short while, fooling people into thinking the game is changing. When they reach level 60 it will be back to the same old same old.
Cap increase is just the dead horse swelling as it decays !
If you forgot, it was told by the devs that leveling from 50 to 60 shall be in a different way. Which I suppose, shall be some kind of "marks" which shall be rewarded by some new pve stuff. (I think leveling from 50 to 60 is a new masked reputation system)

They addressed that didn't they? It's based around skill points again (one of the very few things that players don't have lying around in insane quantities):
"From levels 1 through 50, you have earned Skill Points throughout the game, via playing Mission Content, Queued Events, and other methods like our Duty Officer System.
As you have leveled up, youve spent Skill Points in your captains Skill Tree until you max out at level 50. After the level cap increase goes live, you will continue to level by earning and spending Skill Points earned throughout the new content that will premier with Delta Rising. What will change is that these will only be used to track your progress as you approach the new level cap of 60."
The hope, for me, is that using skill points means that you will level by your favoured means - playing episodes, repeatable missions, DOffing or PVP.
Dev: Before the launch of the new expansion, we will completely take out all skill point rewards for pee VEE pee. We want all players to experience the new content with optimal immersion by playing the story line.
Im not even trying to troll here, honestly. Just curious.
Why are a few people so obsessed with PVP, in a game where the PVP is so woefully underdeveloped and unsupported it might as well not exist?
If all you care about is PVP, why not play another game that is focused towards PVP, as opposed to STO which is focused towards PVE? I'm not suggesting anyone should, i am just interested in why people continue to flog a dead horse.
Is it because its free?
Is it because its the only real star trek game?
Or is it the reason i often hear that people prefer a real opponent to the PVE stuff?
I'm genuinely curious. Every time a new season is released, people speculate on what will be new and happening with PVP. The answer is the same now as it has always been, nothing. I just don't see the continued appeal. Its so niche, I don't see how the people who love it so much get any real satisfaction.

Do you really think what you think?
Pvers are the main market. They are the ones who buy the most traits and gear. lol They don't need it to beat their ISE 1001 time indeed. But if you would read teh forum you would see their "hype" when new lockbox cheese is being released.
And the reason to release items is simple. It makes an impression of the game being developed. They are not releasing real challenging and interesting content, but small new shinny items. From pvp perspective it makes it only worse, because they forget about such thing as balance which pvpers need.

Yup, and thanks to the average attention span of most gamers (roughly equivilant to that of a squirrel) this new hyped-up gimmick will be used for a week before it's placed in the bank never to be seen again. PvPers are the folks that do more long term impact calculations and actually integrate every mechanic into the current playstyle. Everyone else just seems to get a lot of shallow enjoyment out of PvE and that's basically it. PvP is deeper.
It doesn't matter that you are not being catered to in the slightest. I don't need the approval of anybody to play what i want to play.
you already have said the answers, so what your fishing for is someone to argue with,
HI:)
{Long message follows}
I really wasn't fishing for someone to argue with. Been there done that and its pointless. As i said i was genuinely curious.
I agree the PVE content is boring, and too easy right now. But that still doesn't justify to me why some people think pvp is actually any better. It has 2 game modes. Very few maps or features. Its basically just team deathmatch every time. And you say PVE is limited? Yes i see the points you made about a thinking opponent, and every game is different.....but come one, do you really actually believe these things?
Every game is different? Well, while that sounds good, its not really true. Either one team has more spam or cheese than the other team, or one team has better escorts and a healer or two than the other team. If you play organised competitive matches then maybe its real good at those lofty heights, but in the queues its no way near as glam as you made it sound.
Ill put it this way, i played a lot of pvp games, or games with pvp features, and not one of them was as quickly forgotten as STO's for me personally. Probably because its barely even a feature.
Which brings me onto the other thing you mentioned about pve not being the focus of STO. Really? It most certainly is the focus and if you don't see that you are only kidding yourself.
Yes no one needs nukara mines to kill borg cubes. Just like no one needs the Ferengi lobi set to kill a Borg Cube. Doesn't mean people can't, or won't use them to do so though. Not everything in the game is there to be part of a min/max build. Not everyone plays like that. Some people like to play different stuff, change their builds, try new things etc etc. Yes you don't need to in order to win, but some people just rather have fun and mix it up sometimes.
I am not intending to start a "my dad is bigger than your dad" argument, i am honestly just amazed anyone plays STO pvp anymore, as anything more than a time filler. Due to the fact it goes continuously unsupported update after update. I just play other games if i feel like pvp.

What bugs me is at launch this game fixed alot of quality of life problems many other mmos suffered from. But now in guild wars I can lvl a toon 0-80 ALL in pvp and never touch pve. Having to suffer though more pve in this game makes me.....a sad panda...oh the irony haha
