I have been feeding this crafting system for month now.
I have two schools at level 11 and two at level 10.
I still see the same old screen for regular gear and components to build.
I must be doing something wrong.
Was I supposed to just keep feeding this thing 7K XP a day until I reach 1 million?
Is there some kind of boost for other schools once you get the first one maxed like the reputation?
Was this supposed to be fun or something?
This system is looking incredibly week. I hate to think Cryptic actually invested money to bring this to the game. So it must be me....

What am I doing wrong?
youre doing it wrong.
youre supposed to pull out your credit card, buy zen, convert it to dil. then use that dil to craft a bunch of vendor trash, buy mats and doffs from the cstore, and 'finish now' all your xp research missions. once youre at 15 you spend more dil and craft random gear with 'a chance' of having useful modifiers.
then watch all that crafted gear become 'competitive' once x2 hits in october.

it takes 54 days of 7k xp projects to go from level 11 to level 15. Those projects don't scale at all with level, not even slightly.
On the other hand, if you continually make mark 6 items, assuming you've got four slots unlocked, you can get to level 15 from level 11 in just over two weeks, but that's pretty expensive in components. And, you know, requires you spend twelve hours a day on STO crafting ****.
Well then this sounds like a complete waste of time.
Cryptic, you should really considering revamping your crafting system so it is inline with your other reputation systems, etc. that you have in game.
Oh wait, that is what this is....
... my bad.
I'm sure you tried your very best and these are the results of your team effort and synergy.
To me, it looks like, "Go back and try again." but hey, what do I know.
First things first: Pretty much agree with other posts in this thread.
However, all that's been said is immaterial when you start crafting as something else to do when playing rather that the only thing you play the game to do.
How long it takes only really matters if you care about how long it takes. I know that sounds hippy-dippy my space-shippy, but it's true.
If you're ultra-competitive and don't want to pay cash money/spend an inordinate amount of time crafting then you are kind of up the creek.

Lots of people have passed rank 15 now.
The system is flawed, but, to answer your questions:
- no, you do not just sit there like a lump for 7k / day. You should pick a school to focus upon with each character, and use 1 slot for the daily and the other 3 slots (you did unlock 4 slots already, right?) to make mark X gear every 3 hours for XP. Or, if not mark X (which consumes a fair amount of blue materials) at least mark IV or VI items.
-no boost. But there was a crafting weekend for bonus xp and materials. And probably will be another in time.
- fun? No, cryptic does not understand crafting in any of its games. Its meant to be a $$ pit. You don't have to play it. The gear is tradeable, go buy what you want off the exchange if grinding crafting is less fun for you than grinding EC. The $20 million a pop (value of dil & rare resources currently) for components to make a *random and probably useless* XII item that will be obsolete in 3 months is where the biggest flaw lies... the whole system is too expensive for what you get for the most part. Special consoles and 360 beams being useful, the rest of it is just the same old junk at 1000X the price.
In the end, they could have just made it into one, big level and it wouldn't have been any different.
The least they could have done was to put some more incentives, either one-time rewards as in the commendation system or things to craft, like in the rep-system along the way, to make levelling and reaching a new tier a bit more exciting.
The way it currently works, it just shows that it was designed by an idiot with no imagination.
But what would you expect of someone who introduces a crafting system that, at the top tier level, only sells revamped versions of items that have been in the game for years on some occasions?
