Patching Problems

There is a thread about this in the Tech Section so I ask the Mods NOT to move this. I want to ask the Devs this question.


Ever since 9.5 went live, EVERYTIME there is a Major update to STO (today it's the CE Event), there is ALWAYS a problem where people get stuck at the "CRYPTIC" screen and have to do hours of song and dancing to fix the problem? Sometimes a simple computer reboot, sometimes redoing the STO shortcut, or perhaps a reset of their routers.

I want to know, why does this keep happening and why there has been no mention of this problem being addressed by the programmers?

    Can only agree with this post. I don't know how they manage it but every MMO that performs weekly maintenance manages to introduce new "features" that somehow reduce the performance of the game. I returned to the game at the weekend after a few months away, finally managed to get logged in but since then have had very few issues with crashes or lag.

    Then they had the weekly 3 hour maintenance today and since then I'm getting booted at random intervals (none of the intervals particularly long) am getting so much lag that it's as if someone is animating it using stop frame animation and clay puppets. Two words for you devs. Quality Control.

    Now I haven't had any problems like this myself, so I'm guessing that this is a issue that is only effecting a small number of machines and is difficult to replicate...

    Now if a reset of the router corrects the problem, you must keep in mind that STO is not running on the router. The only way STO can put a router in a bad state is if the router is already marginal in its ability to support the network load that STO generates, and the additional load of the patch pushes it over the edge...
