Hello all,
I already have the tactical Vesta for my Fed, and tactical Dyson for my Rom, so I'm looking hard for a solid, worthwhile, and unique science vessel for my KDF science character. The Gorn Varanus Support vessel just seems weak to me when compared with other science vessels that have more firepower and can still put out the science.
I'm looking at the Korath, but it's gonna take me a while to save up the 200 million EC it's currently going for on the exchange. I think it would be a great vessel, (and I've watched-I know the temporal science vessels have been extremely popular so that should say something) but with today's line-up of more tactically heavy science ships such as the Dysons, and with the Tier 6 ships coming, WOULD YOU PAY 200 MILLION EC FOR THIS SHIP RIGHT NOW? Or is that price just too steep nowadays?
The other two vessels I've identified as potential buys are:
1. The Voth Palisade science vessel
2. The Tal Shiar adapted battle cruiser (because I can ALMOST make it into a full science vessel by tweaking power and using commander science Boff.)
Thanks for any insights you can give me!
Edit: P.S., I don't PVP, so this is just for PVE considerations.
Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

If you pvp, it's a solid cc/healer. I think the consensus is that the palisade is the better drain boat though
Sorry I should have said I don't PVP, only PVE. OP will be edited. Also I would consider a drain build, but is the Palisade considered better just because of the special console, or are there other factors that would make it recommended?

Yes (as an acquisition). Even in it's nerfed form, farming EC in the game makes it attainable. No need to spend $$$ or even dilithium if you don't want to.
The real question is - is it worth anything to you?
As a Klingon science player, you have few 'good' science options with KDF built craft. Nothing on par as the Romulans or the federation. Lockbox ships or allied species are your only option.
And to be honest, it's a nice ship. And it cloaks.
youre considering dropping that much on a ship only a couple months before the t6 ships hit sto?
i dunno if thats a great idea...
This is indeed another consideration...It'll take me longer than that to finish getting the EC ANYWAY, so I'll definitely wait until I see what T6 ships come out and what the plan for upgrading the current T5 ships is. But assuming all could be made balanced, would you spend 200 million EC on the Korath?

i certainly wouldnt prior to seeing what the t6 ships brings to the table. even if all things were equal and we were operating under a best case scenario, i dont think i would. if cryptic really have any clue what is wanted in the kdf, a t6 sci ship should be present amongst the offerings.
im not really a sci person anyway, and i am also hugely jaded, so i am probably not the best person to ask. that being said, the fed counterpart (wells) seems to be pretty popular despite the feds having so many sci options available to them.

the temporal science vessel and Vesta are simply "The science vessels"... and as kdf you do not have any sobstitute as good as the korath.
Does it worth 200M EC? yes... until some days ago, but actually we are waiting for t6 ships but we have no idea about the new ships. I think it will be still a good ship but I do not know if it will be still the best ship.

Ya, palisade makes a better full on sci ship because of the consoles. However, although it is fairly certain lockbox and lobi ships get free teir 6 upgrade I would wait a bit before buying it until we get complete confirmation.
One cheap ship that might be interesting to play around with is the Mirror BoP or mirror somraw. They are not real sci ships but can have sci leaning and are interesting to fly.
And the other posters do make a seriously valid point: until we see T6 ships, we should hold off buying.
Pretty much this. Until we know all the details on T6 ships and the way and the degree to which the current T5 ships will be upgraded - it's best to hold back investments that you may regret shortly after.
OP, the Korath is a mighty fine science vessel and I always have promoted her to KDF players asking what you're asking here. It's basically the only Klingon looking science ship in the game even if it's a lockbox ship and to me that Klingon look is also very important. I'd be sure you won't regret geting one if the situation was not as it is - all of us waiting for info on T6 ships. As it is, it's probably the best to apply the "wait and see" approach.
Well, I won one from a lockbox! I was opening lockboxes just for the Lobi (for a different reason entirely) but figured I might as well open temporal ones as long as I was opening them. So now I guess I'll wait to open it until I see what T6 ships are in store. It's gonna be hard to wait though lol.

That will teach me for assuming. I thought it did. I was wrong.
