Well, since you're a Science Captain I assume you'd prefer to use an actual science ship - although I might be wrong on this. The thing is - the KDF fleet science ship is pretty thin, with only the Fleet Varanus as a fleet level science ship.
From what I read here, you might be into a torp-spamming and heavy on science fleet B'rel if you happen to be ok with more fragile, hit & run ships. The B'rel has been a chocie of KDF science Captains for years now.
Personally, I'd recommend playing with what you currently have availible and stockpiling resources (EC, fleet ship modules, dilithium) until 'Delta Rising' or at least until we get some clear and non-speculative explanation about what's going to happen to the T5 ships with the new expanson and what do the new T6 have. Because you don't want to regret your purchases, especially not so close to Ex.2 being released.
The Fleet Corsair, Fleet B'rel, Fleet Karfi, and Fleet Voq'ue could all be really great ships for you. Look them up on the STO wiki for more info, and then decide. (All of those have a Lt. Commander Sci slot or higher or Universal Boff Slot).
Personally I run a Fleet Corsair as Tac Officer, so I get a taste of everything, pets, descent sci abilities, cruiser commands, and some extra offensive powers.
You should not buy any ship at this time, given that the lack of information on their impending obsolescence in DOOM RISING almost certainly indicates a terrible and very short future for those ships, many of which have already aged poorly. They would not hide the information if it was not truly awful news.
It is just like those trailers where the trailer contains all of the good parts of the movie...only the good parts aren't very good, either.
