Purple crafting doff

i keep hearing about this purple crafting doff that you should have to help lvl with. i have searched but i cant find reference to where i get them in game(wife does say i am blind sometimes so i may have missed it).

I'm not aware of any purple R&D-related DOff (not saying there's not one, just that I haven't seen one)... But if you reached 1500 experience in the 'old' Crafting system, then you can go to what's left of the dilithium store and under the Reclaim tab, if he's not already in your roster, you can claim Gumarre; a Blue Ferengi Research Lab Scientist who has the "R&D: Aegis" R&D School, allowing you to use him to craft Aegis equipment under the new R&D system when you reach level 15 in Science (Deflector), Shields (Shields) and/or Engineering (Engines).

Actually, besides the 'special' school items at level fifteen of any R&D school, which require a specialist, you can craft with any normal DOff - in fact, the game should give you a set of white "Emergency R&D Hologram" DOffs that cover just about every specialty the R&D system uses except the School Specialties, they might be either in your roster or boxed in your inventory - really, all you need to level up your crafting is some Research Lab Scientists and common Materials to run the "Bonus Research XP" project for whatever school you want to level up, and DOff quality doesn't really seem to have any effect on that one.

But as said above, any purple doff that meets class requirements will do while you level. Think of it like doffing, a purple increases your chances of critting and for level 15 gear (TR-116b, Aegis etc) you need specific doffs with the specializations. As far as I know the Xindi doffs from the latest lockbox are the only purples withR&D specializations.

Has anyone actually done this? because my lead alt had 1600+ crafting skill points (built an Aegis set) in the old system, and there is nothing for him to reclaim in either the dil store or Z-store... My bad luck, or is that a bug...?? Or do I have to reach lvl 15 in the new system before he shows up in the store?

look for the box you got from the crafting tutorial. He's probably hiding inside it.

Hmmm...that box opened itself unbidden into my roster, and I only remember seeing common DOffs at the time. But since that roster was already heavily populated by rare DOffs, I'll look for this mythical Ferengi; if I can't find it there, then I guess I'm S.O.L. ...

He's a blue research lab doff

he's also probably the only Ferengi in the game with resolve.

I got a Gumaare. Lots of people got one.

There isn't much fanfare involved. Check your DOFF roster.

The link you provide only includes Lockbox Doffs. Does anyone know of a way to get either these doffs, or others with the same specialties, that doesn't involve buying zen?

No, these are the only ones that exist at this time. Buy them from Exchange if you don't have any Zen, they are not particularly expensive.

I got a Gumaare.

I filtered for rare DOffs, and sure enough he was in there... I put him to work right away!

He was there right away for me, in the spew you got for logging in the first time after the update. I can't recall if he was boxed or not, but I had him from level 0 crafting (new system of course) on a level 15 character (bank that can craft) so there are no requirements. I did not have to use a store of any sort at all.
