In my attempts to do a malware scan as I was told to do so, I picked up a few bad programs. I get a message upon start up prompting me to instal "CE_UmbrellaCert" and Fire Fox has caught a case of pop-up tab ads. I need to find a program other than Malwarebytes, and get this console cleaned of the recent hijacking.

Good news: The original issue and the issues that followed have been mended.
How? I finally got ahold of a good anti-malware program (Hitman). Although I have a pop-up tab issue in IE that isn't listed in the plug-ins, I do not really use IE. Thanks folks for the help, sorry if my patience came up short (especially when I started shouting at my computer), and I hope others find this thread of use.

Glad too hear you got it all fixed... Hitman is a good program as well - was tired the other night and the only program that I could think of off the top of my head was Malware Bytes. But, having said that... those browser hijack issues are annoying. Keep scanning that every few days to, just to make sure you get them all - then run it at least once a week after that to insure that nothing more attempts to infest your system.
My subscription with Hitman Pro is a 30 day free trial So I need to avoid catching any malware (except viruses), atleast until they come out with a version of Malwarebytes that is not flummoxed by documents on my computer.
On the topic of avoiding bugs, I learned to be careful to read what the EULAs are for, to avoid extraneous and unwanted programs.
