i think bo is best used on a cannon build. cannons to run down shields and bo spike to pop the target. cant imagine a full on beamboat dropping faw in favour of bo would be very effective.
Was this talking about some mod on the crafting weapons, or the BOFF skills itself?
To be honest, I use to use BO on my beam builds with FAW. With the right build, power levels were not really a big problem. The beams would kill shields, and the BO would kill the hull. The best part was when BO2 would crit, I was doing about 15k to 18k. On builds that used DBBs, I could get 27k to 30k from a crit.
If it is the BIFF skill, and it's going to crit 100% of the time now, then I will give up my TT1 for BO on my DPS/quick kill builds. With the combination of DBBs, DHCs, and the FAW, with cannon rapid fire skills, the BO will help it kill things even faster.
Almost all of the highest DPS builds were behind in killing enemies fast. This will knock them even further behind.
Just to edit: When I mention that most high DPS builds are behind, I am NOT talking about in PVP. Only in non-PVP. I don't do PVP much, so I don't know if they hold up the same way in PVP as in the end game content.
Leader of Elite Guardian Academy.Would you like to learn how to run a fleet? Would you like to know how to do ship builds (true budget as well as high end)? The join the Academy today!
I'm waiting on their big announcement to see if players actually start coming back to play to even use their cannons lol.
The big announcement is either Legacy of Qo'nos, the revamping of the GPL currency, or the revamping of the dancing places.
I already posted in another thread about Legacy of Qo'nos but briefly it invlolves another 159 dollar expansion pack that is the only place to get crafting materials for new stuff that is coming out in crafting soon. Then they will say they took the last 10 months making expansion 2 just to redo the icon graphics for GPL and add new holograms and trophies either no one ever uses so it must be revamped so no one will still use them. Then with the help of the Romulan Republic in Legacy of the Table Dancers reverse engineering of an iconian gate studied by the federation and quark enterprises the business venture of the life time. You dance to the beat and if you step out of place whatever square you are standing on turns into a mini iconian gateway and you fall into a random dance floor where it could be anything from drozana, ds9, talaxian disco, holograms only club, to a swag dance off with the borg queen herself. Oh yes expansion 2 will release a new system where instead of fighting the borg queen you can out dance her and destroy the collective once and for all!
People are acting like killing stuff so quickly is like a new thing in STO
Well, they don't play the game for the fun of playing it since its Star Trek, they are playing it like its an mmo, hence why they all say "escorts use cannons, its only viable dps spec"
I personally prefer a science vessel + beams, while it won't get the big numbers like a escort with cannons can do, but i don't care.
I picked science ships because they have better shields then escorts, but turn better then cruisers...it would be so cool if science vessels and cruisers once they got 4+ consoles, respective to their ship class, they can make it add more to damage or maneuverability....cause i honestly do not like cannons, they are not fun to me at all and this game is meant to be fun.
Maybe i won't get into STFs and thats fine, i am thinking they take things to seriously in those things.
I mean, in the shows, the movies, i have never seen a federation ship use cannons besides those Peregrine Fighters and the defiant class ships, the rest used beams + torpedoes exclusively.
The sad thing is, they treat the only viable build for dps is an escort with cannons that is completely and utterly perfectly specc'ed with purple boffs and purple doffs.
The way i see it, they should have made the bridge officers and duty officers to only be as good as their experience allowed, as in, the longer you have them, the better they got.
When it comes to beams vs cannons, i think beams should have more critical hit chance, while cannons did more damage, but none of the weapons had their own unique procs or innate crit damage.
That would be more better overall, but i am sure there will always be the elitist types that just care about the big numbers like they are cavemen and just seeing fire for the first time ever.
not true lots of fed ships used cannons the miranda comes to mind it was not exactly like the defiant but close and really the onlly time you se phasers fired as beams is in the tv shows and the next generation movies all the other movies the phasers fire in pules like cannons

BO affects only one weapon, so the rest can and still should be cannons. Unless you have to use beams.

Playing STO spamming FAW is like playing chess using always the computer's suggested moves
Just like you would with BFAW

But ... isn't that the point of the game?
:P
Not like that.
