Want to ask for clarification on Diplomatic Rank 4....

capemike4capemike4 Member Posts: 394 Arc User
Well, it took awhile, but I finally reached Rank 4 last night on Diplomatic missions! :D

I noticed one of the benefits reads 'FDC voting rights on Deep Space 9', yet a friend on a chat channel says that part has long been obsolete, and the text should've been removed ages ago....

...it's disappointing if true...but if not, can someone give me a clue as to what would come next?

Still, I got the new uniform, Transwarp to DS9, and opposite faction purple DoFF(helllooooo, Orion nurse!), so I'm happy, but some clarification would be nice! :)

    Long, long gone.

Before my time, T4 ambassadors could vote on which "ambassador" would show up on DS9 with various consumables and transwarp tokens. Not sure why it was taken out of the game, but it was.

First Contact missions...well they were bugged and would never show, now they're just gone.

Basically, the boff, transwarp, title, and uniform ARE the rewards - there is nothing else to look forward to, other than handing in Diplomatic CXP for Fleet Marks once you hit 110,000.

Very rarely on episode replay, you will now have even MORE diplomatic options to resolve dialogue. Everything Old is New comes to mind as an example.

I really wish there was some more utility to diplomacy in game.

Not true -- what comes next is getting that CXP up even higher and turning it in for shiploads of fleet marks.

Even without this voting thing (which sounds like it would've been a terribly flawed system) or now the first contact missions, diplomacy still has the best rewards out of all the commendations.

As for first contact missions, they were another "seen it once, seen it all" thing like the exploration missions, but without the possibility of getting an interesting ground map. A handful of randomized dialogue, you read it and pick the right options. Pretty underwhelming in general. If you've ever done the mission with the Cardassians in orbit of Bajor, they were like a really mediocre version of that. Same "this is not my ship" room and all.

Oh yeah, gonna be getting LOTS of Fleet Marks now...that's my 3rd or 4th Rank 4, now, so I'm gonna have plenty coming in!

Gonna be wearing the Diplomatic uniform for a LONG time, now, and going back through some mission replays to see what I can see.... :D

Personally, I was thrilled to get T4 Diplomacy, because I wanted the uniform (the DS9 transwarp was less useful to me, as I had long completed the mission chains out there anyway, and ther are other ways to get around). That said, I find the other assignment chains to be more rewarding in the long term. The re-occuring boff recruitments that unlock can be lucrative, if you get a boff that is in demand (say male Vulcan science officer, etc).

The entire existence of this thread points out one glaring fact though.

The doff UI was just revamped - but the descriptions of the CXP rewards have not been touched. The exploration clusters are now removed, but the the CXP reward descriptions have not been touched. DS9 voting rights have been irrelevant since before I started playing the game, but the description was never touched.

We're talking about updating static TEXT in the UI. Why has this not been done, in all these months?

So much for not confusing new players.

How does one trade CXP for Fleet marks?
Federation: Fleet Admiral Zombee (Alien Tactical)::Fleet Admiral Danic (Vulcan Science)::Fleet Admiral Daniel Kochheiser (Human Engineer)
KDF: Dahar Master Kan (Borg Klingon Tactical)::Dahar Master Torc (Alien Science)::Dahar Master Sisteric (Gorn Engineer)

On the Fleet starbase, go to ops, you "File a Commendation Report" near the personnel officer. 10K blocks in any commendation over 100K gets you a pile of Fleet marks.

Thanks, I have been wondering where to go to get rid of my excess CXP's.

With Diplomacy / Maraudering tier 4 a Fed / KDF toon can get a free blue science Doff from Mine Enemy. I believe her name is Rai... and she is a botanist???

A Romulan toon will get her regardless because she is former colonist on Virinat. So your Romulan toon and Rai would recognize each other.

There are some diplomatic options in The Vault as well.

    And I totally agree.

More dialog options opened up with hitting diplo 4.

Good as the recent FEs have been, I didnt notice any diplomatic dialog options.

I'd like to ask that, where possible, a little more attention is paid to this.

I got her on one of my rom toons not too long ago (maybe in april or may, not sure). I think I played the turtorial with him, so maybe the skipped turtorial is really the reason why she's bugged.

The Diplomacy Ranks are artifacts of a different STO long, long gone. Nothing it brings with it has any benefit in the slider-moving UI enviroment of instant gratification grindfest online. Back n the day you had a point to get the DS9 transwarp, to actually move somewhere and do something other than shooting. But that doesn't earn you dil to buy fixed items which translates to "not up to quality standarts" and "confuses new players" and thus it goes the way of all "non-essential" content.

Cryptic's high standards of quality dictated removal of content like exploration. But the confusing and dated text meets their standards so it remains.

Obviously, there are plenty in Second Wave, too.

Surface Tension has a Diplomacy option for Federation characters talking to the Cardassian representative, and Bajoran ones get a second, species-specific, option when talking to him as well.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

Isn't becoming a grumpy old man fun? (though more seriously the most meaningful part of the old diplomacy ranks was that DS9 transwarp to quickly access the STF vendors. You know, the massive grind-fest through, for most of us, a selection of three elite space missions which only really paid off when the gods of luck and mercy granted you a XII equipment requisition token. I'm sure am sad to see those days go, selecting what to do from among choices is so damned inconvenient! :P)

Although ever since the STF gear was removed from DS9 and put into the reputation, zone chat there has been dead. Sure zone chat is zone chat, but DS9 had its own character that was more focused on playing the game and less.. ESD-y.

Well, you only get a paltry 75 fleet marks for each 10,000 cxp block--which takes forever. Or, you can go win one No Win Scenario and get 363 fleet marks in about 8 minutes. . . . just sayin'

True enough - but I don't find 10K takes forever, and it's a decent reward for doffing that I'd be doing anyway, as opposed to no reward for anything over 10K. I adds up - doffing alone nets me probably 2 to 4 of these things every few weeks, or so it seems. (Across all commendations, not just diplomacy).

I haven't tried NWS yet, I'm still new enough that I've only frequently run about half of the queued content regularly. Doubt my ship would be able to handle it, as my best ISE parse was about 5K, what I thought was decent, but I've always had the impression that NWS requires real DPS.

    Ah, didn't realise.

Nevertheless, I'd like to see more diplomatic options.

Negotiation is about as canon, at least for Feds, as it gets.

It was taken out when they added in all of the mission transwarps, presumably they thought it was superfluous at that point. Also because I'm sure very, very few people ever used it.
