Someone said I should put this thread onto the KDF shipyards section, so here we go... just a bit of copy/paste.
The Draguas and Phalanx support (science) vessels need the Varanus treatment and need to get a fleet version (and likely a tier 5 retrofit). There will always be the ships in the c-store that you will mainly get for the consoles, those are fine. But a tier 5 retrofit and more importantly fleet versions of these 2 ships will REALLY help out the KDF in terms of science vessel selection.
What do they have in terms of science vessels? The only non-special (as in non-lockbox, non-lobi ship like dyson or korath temporal) is the Varanus and it's fleet version. That's quite literally it. You could make a argument for the Vo'Quv being a sciencey carrier with a commander science boff station and target subsystems.
The three gorn support vessels can even have their own shtick, or leanings. The Varanus is the more rounded of the 3, the Draguas can be the more meaty tankier of the 3 (it looks bulkier anyways) and the phalanx could be more offensively oriented somehow (for instance, even though it's a tier 3 ship, it has a turn rate of 14, better than both Varanus and Draguas.
Consoles could look like...
Varanus: 3 tac, 3 eng, 4 sci (as it does now)
Draguas: 3 tac, 4 eng, 3 sci
Phalanx: 4 tac, 3 eng, 3 sci
Boffs could be... (again, also showing what the fleet varanus has now)
Varanus: Ensign eng, Lt. eng, Lt. tac, Lt-Com sci, Commander sci
Draguas: Ensign eng, Lt. sci, Lt. tac, Lt-Com eng, Commander sci
Phalanx: Ensign eng, Lt. eng, Lt. sci, Lt-Com tac, Commander sci
Basically the draguas switches the lt. com science station with the lt. engineering station, while the phalanx replaces the lt. com science station with the lt. tactical station.
Bonus power...
Varanus: +15 auxiliary
Draguas: +10 auxiliary, +5 shield power
Phalanx: +10 auxiliary, +5 weapon power (or engine power, not sure)
Take these how you want to, these are all just suggestions but KDF really needs more end-game choice in science vessels.
