I just wish DOFFs and the DOFF system had not deteriorated into an extra "buff item" system. You know:
- An infusion of many new missions (aka Cardassian Sector Expansion)
- New Chains
- Fleshing out the rewards for the rest of the tracks
- New rewards
- A functional UI
That sort of stuff. I always sigh when I see these infusions of a few hand crafted DOFFs while the system remains largely untouched and unfinished.
Yeah on some of this stuff it should just be 100% ... the tricobalt thing, nobody uses them anymore, chance to make your torpedoes behave unpredictably and ruin your timing is not much of a bene. DOFFs have very high opportunity costs, they have to be justifiable, this one sounds like it makes things worse.
Sorry to see this bug went live. It's already been fixed internally and should be included in the next patch we push out. So, hold onto your KDF-Xindi - they will be repaired shortly.
What will happen to the hapless Feds who went and bought, and then destroyed by binding, said "KDF" doffs?
That is really depressing. The Elachi torp really stinks and I was hoping this DOff would help the Elachi Tricobalt-based torp at least be faster (and therefore make it "a little" more useful).
Right now the only reason to use the Elachi torp is if you want the three-piece set bonus, and you end up being stuck with a "meh" torp in exchange for the three piece bonus.
If you updated this new Fabrication Engineer to buff the speed of the Elachi torp as well then more people might use the Elachi torp ... and you might sell more Elachi torps in the Lobi store.
In the immortal words of Captain Sisko: "It may not be what you believe, but that doesn't make it wrong."
Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Props to Bort to communicating on this: It's hard to find accurate numbers nowdays.
That said, I agree that if that doff affected all Tricobalt-like torps (Including, say, the Temporal Distortion Device) with a slightly higher chance of activation it might be worth it
I purchased Ixmuat yesterday with my Fed captain, only to find that it has switched to KDF and is no longer usable. I submitted a ticket since I spent 6.5+mil for it, only for today's patch to render it useless after already being equipped and bound >_< . I was not aware of this thread until today, so I'm pretty much SOL without tech support's help.
Also, how many Xindi DOFF's of the same type can you equip? Can you equip 3 Amsoti's, or just 1 at a time?

I accidentally bought 4 when I meant to buy 3. So in middle of switching load outs for some reason one of the bound ones has disappeared lol. So atleast that 4th one I have is usable although I wanted to transfer it to another sci but I doubt whatever this bug is that occured that cryptic would ever reimburse the doff even if its a bug/glitch on their part.
I don't tend to agree with a lot of things DDIS says, but I think he's right in this situation.
The proc rates on some of those things are way too low. I feel like in most cases we are encouraged to stack 3 of the best grade of a doff in most every case just to have enough of a chance of getting something useful out of it. I would much rather have something like how conn doffs work where it's a fixed bonus but the bonus gets larger with better doffs. The counter to prevent power creep would be to limit the magnitude to something like 2-3 blue/green doffs so the advantages of having higher quality is that you can have more types of doff.
I fly science vessels a lot, and some of these new doffs sound great except for the fact that I already have to burn a few slots on deflector officers to have decent uptime on my good abilities. I'd much rather have a fixed time decrease than to have some cooldowns not reduced while other cooldowns gets reduced to the global based on random chance.
Besides, while power creep isn't the best, I think there is a good bit of positive potential with being able to have doffs change builds in significant ways such that two people with the same boffs and equipment can have different playstyles based on Doffs.
...core design concept of Duty Officer active roster abilities...
Borticus,
I have tried tracking down which doffs I'd like to give a go with on many different occasions. My problem is, I have no idea how or where to get the doffs I'd like to have.
Is there any way what-so-ever that we could get an in-game store where we could walk in and purchase the duty officers we want?
I would be just fine and dandy buying them for Zen too. I mean, I know some are supposed to be rare, but I am very much aggro over the fact that my main character will never be able to craft the Aegis (the new aegis, not the old) gear.
Why is that? Because I have no idea where, or how to get that particular R&D Doff.
And then all the other cool gear that requires a special R&D doff to get it made. Yeah, please, make them very expensive if that's what it takes and then I can start collecting them ALL, over time, yes maybe it would take a while to buy the most expensive ones in this hypothetical vendor that I am only outlining in this message to you.
At any rate, we really do need a way to look all these doffs up, new and old. Some of the older doff packs that are for sale in the zen store, have no description of them at all.
So, please, a Doff Vendor. Tie it to the Reputation System if you'd like. I say this with the thought in mind that, a more famous captain (higher leveled player characters) would be able to attract the purple (and higher?) level doffs, and so, grinding a new rep or other device in order to be able to get the doffs that we would like to have, and so then, building up our doff crew over time, from white, to green, to blue, and then purple.
I'm willing to invest in doffs. I would make a bet that many many many other players would too.

Just my 2 cents on that as hope a fix is incoming on the kdf doffs defecting to the fed side even tho we are suppossed to not be at war now lol.
Most likely they shouldn't. A large amount of all DOFFs shouldn't affect pets, the main exceptions to that being the Flight Deck Officer DOFFs.
That said, I agree that if that doff affected all Tricobalt-like torps (Including, say, the Temporal Distortion Device) with a slightly higher chance of activation it might be worth it
From searching the exchange, both are Fed.
So there's some error here ... Maybe you can get both names for both factions, dunno.
