That only goes untill a certain point... Eventually, there would be enough stipends to entirely cover the demand on the Dil-exchange, especially since the sense of urgency would diminish more and more.

Quite simply: Because of the stipends, the supply would quickly be beyond the demand.
Cryptic is still selling LTS, so I don't think that's as much of a problem as you seem to think. There are always all sorts of things that cost in access of the monthly stipend. In addition, we'd likely see an increase in the value of Zen in response to LTS going on the C-store. I think that it would balance itself out just fine.

All it would do would be open up an alternate route of paying for the LTS.

And because it could easily be exploited and abused by goldseller companies it makes perfect sense not to ever allow it.

While some people may not be willing to spend their own money on an LTS they most likely spend money on other things for the game, and Cryptic would be stupid to add an easily exploitable purchase that would force Cryptic to ban the accounts of people willing to financially support the game.
There's nothing stopping people from 'exploiting' the current system either. There are plenty of people in this very thread mentioning that they are making 'free' zen right now. They paid Cryptic, and now are getting back zen at a rather favorable ratio to what they spent on the LTS. That's one of the 'perks' of the LTS as it exists Now.

I understand that, but can you give a specific reason as to why I wont happen? Do you feel like having this mean, would take away from those who actually spend RL money???

On another note, this is not whether I want an LTS... I can afford it anytime, but it's for those who can't afford an LTS!!!

Well the LTS provides special content exclusive to those who paid that much for the game. If you make that content accessible by any other means you have just lost whatever marketability the LTS had.

Just take some solace in the fact that only a tiny fraction of this game's content is NOT included in the F2P scheme.

It's already been said by many people but here it is again: there is no labyrinth of Dil>Zen>Money logic that is going to magically create a profit from your buying a $200 product with make believe space dollars.

As a ftp player who would love a lifetime sub (but never have a large enough amount of money to do so at any one time, and an unstable income, I would love the idea of being able to save for a membership Ingame.
However, with some of the activity I have seen in game with people who have manymany toons and various programs in place to farm dilithium for them, I think this could lead to pretty simple and desirable exploits to get a LTS with little or no effort. So I think its a no from me sadly.
Ill stick to spending when I can, grinding where I need to, and be happy and greatful :)

Yes definitely, an in-game way to get the LTS. A way for Cryptic/PWE to compensate for their overtly monetizing tactics.

I shocked that a moderator hasn't moved this thread to the new F.C.T shredder yet.:D

face facts monthly subs and lifetime subs will never appear on the c-store.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

when you consider that currently monthly & lifetime subs are the only things that are not available for players to pick up on the c-store essentially free by converting dilithium to zen how can you possibly accuse Cryptic/PWE of using overtly monetizing tactics?

surly you must admit they have the most generous free to play model out there.

I'm completely against this idea but...

There is no free zen (other than the pittance LTS's get), all of that Zen floating around in the exchange was paid for by someone.

Nothing is free bro. Were you born yesterday, lol? Someone had to pay for that zen being exchanged for dilithium. Even the "free" zen was paid for by those shady advertising companies.

Most generous free to play indeed while still charging subs and selling lifetimes. Heh.

I've read almost all the replies, and it seems as tho most, if not all the lifertimers that reply here, are saying that LTS are the "Direct" way of Cryptic Getting it's money, and yes I agree, but let's not forget there are multiple other ways of cryptic of getting it's money.

One thing I saw that it's making the Lifetimers say no to this, is because of the ZEN stipped, ok, so you get 500 ZEN a month... There is going to be a point where the amount of ZEN you get = The Amount of $$$ you spent on the LTS, and ultimately, after that point is reached, Cryptic is the one loosing the money, in order to pay the LTS their stipend...

I don't see any problem at all, if Cryptic decides to retrieve that ZEN via giving players the ability to buy LTS Via in game, but if the Stipend is what is hurting Cryptic, by all means, don't give the stippend to those who buy an LTS Via game... and keep giving it to those players who did buy the LTS with RL money...

Just more thoughts to throw out, and also, I saw someone mentioned, "Waaah, I want Free Stuff that other people paid for", um no, 1.) this is not whether I, or those who would like to buy an LTS via in game, want free stuff, its about enhancing the general gameplay not, just for a few players, but for all. 2.) like I mentioend above, if you think about it, you are not really playing for the LTS, when that point where the ZEN = LTS price, it would have paid itself out, and from that point on, Cryptic will be giving you Free ZEN... And 3.) this not a thread that is saying "I want free stuff" it is rather a thread that meant to get ideas on both sides of the conversation, on why Cryptic should or should not, let players buy LTS via game means...

Ultimatly if you just come here and say, "It's not going to happen", you're not really getting into the actual meaning of the title "General Discussion" so please, be sure to give details as to why or why not, cryptic should do this, and let's not flame or hate on each other... I really would love to see this thread be considered by the Devs...

and how you think you would buy it from zen store?Don't you think someone would pay for it if you would sell dilithium.

Tbh, if Cryptic decides to shut-down sto, you wont get any money back, that the bare truth for any mmo that runs subscriptions... now, if cryptic decides to do LTS via Z-store, you're not really gonna lose anything at all, if fact, if you have had a long time being an LTS... you ultimately are gaining from it, just look at your ZEN stipend, I'm pretty sure your LTS paid itself by now, but just because other people would like to have alternates, doesn't mean that those who spend RL money would loose anything...

Let's try to have an open mind, about the subject, and get actual conversations going...

There are the surveys. They must generate enough interest from players that the companies participating keep using them to advertise. How much zen actually gets given away... Who knows.

Every time I see threads about those most people say they don't work or they don't get the zen.

    Overtly monetizing tactics?

    Does Cryptic...
    • Make players spend real money to repair equipment/ships like other F2P games?
    • Make players spend real money to buy new ships when the previous one was destroyed in combat like other F2P games do?
    • Require that every purchase be bind to character as opposed to account wide unlocks?
    • Force players to buy an entirely new costume if they want to change the color of their outfits? (see TSW)
    • Only sell items on a per character basis unless an additional fee is paid to make it an account wide unlock? (see TSW)
    • Delete everything on a server if it remains inactive after a certain period of time?
    • Create missions with objectives that can only be completed if you've purchased a specific item with real money?

And those are a few examples off the top of my head that I've seen. Star Wars TOR has a few I can't recall at the moment.

This game isn't even close to being defined as overtly monetized.

    Yes, overtly monetizing tactics.

    Cryptic does...
    • Have lock boxes(a gambling device with infinitesimal odds) that can be opened only with a key bought with real money, while still charging subs and selling lifetimes.
    • The first point counters all other points

The game is being monetized heavily, even the Geko admits it.

    No it doesn't.
In the prime universe it does.

Lock boxes are a staple of the online gaming industry because they are popular and a great source of income, not a sign of being overly monetized because you personally don't like them.
Only in a grind infested Chinese MMO...oh wait.
