So... I have been contemplating if I should turn in my Pearls for the Risian ships.
I think I will get the cruiser for my KDF engineer. It is certainly more "tanky" than the Negh'var Battlecruiser that toon is currently flying. The Lieutenant universal station allows me to switch between a tactical / engineering Boff depending on the situation. The only thing lacking is a cloaking device that I am used to using for alpha strikes.
On the other hand I am not sure about which ship to choose (if any) for my KDF tactical toon who has only flown BoPs. The corvette is closer to a BoP than the cruiser, but that lack of a battle cloak more or less screws up my combat strategy. Choosing either ship also means the science Boff cannot use TR2 and GW3 abilities.
I suppose the cruiser would be the better choice. The Risian Corvette does not offer enough advantages over my T5 Hegh'ta Heavy BoP which I really like flying. Plus I have a Mirror Qin Heavy Raptor on the sidelines that I am slow kitting out with the random New Romulus weapons I am getting while leveling up that rep system. The Risian cruiser is "tanky"; it has more hull strength than the Hegh'ta and Qin by far. However, it's turn rate is only 10 vs. 21 for that Hegh'ta which makes the cruiser sluggish.
The corvette is a specialty ship that uses speed to maximize survivability, instead of battlecloaking or tanking, and as such should only be used when built to exploit a very specific set of tactics. Its hard to utilize fully in PVE, because most NPCs dont move around enough for high amounts of speed to matter--low speed works just as well for most of them.
The cruiser is akin to a KDF battlecruiser, except it cant mount DHCs and doesnt have a cloak. It will be easier for tac captain to get damage out of it, since the captain's damage buffs complement the ship handling and layout well. As a KDF though, you'd probably be happier with a true battlecruiser. If I had to use one, it would be this one. If you ever get a fleet-level faction battlecruiser, you'll be most of the way to knowing how to fly it already.
As has been said the Corvette needs to be setup for speed to survive well. Some might like that aspect of it but it didn't hold my attention long. Also make hitting one facing hard sometimes in PvE as you zip about hitting all shield facings.
The cruiser though works well with an engy toon, and I suspect you might find it interesting as well for your tac toon.
Also, sounds like you have enough for both ships? Or just one?
Getting one for 1000, unlocks the discount account wide and reduces the cost to just 40 for all other alts. So maybe you can get both.
I have room for both ships on all my toons since I basically got rid of all my T1 - T3 ships and have been doing the daily Risian event consistently to get enough pearls to get both Risian ships for all my toons. But I am only considering the Corvette for my KDF tactical toon since it is similar to a BoP.
I was originally thinking about getting the corvette for my tactical KDF toon simply because it has 4 tactical consoles. The 0.9 shield modifier is nice too since BoPs only have a 0.8 modifier. The 3rd aft weapon slot also add some defensive firepower. I don't really care too much for the Subspace Wake Generator... at least for the moment.
The primary downsides are:
1. No Battle Cloak - This means no alpha strike which I suppose I live with. I generally do not cloak when running away though. Attempting to do that meant getting blown up most of the time doing elite STFs because the Borg plasma torpedoes track me when I am cloaked. This even applies to torpedoes fired after I have cloaked. With no shield, a BoP hull can't withstand a borg plasma torp.
2. Only an Ensign / Lieutenant station for Science Boff - Although my captain skills do boost science abilities, I have decided to devote the Commander universal station of my BoP to the Science Boff so that I can drop gravity well during combat. I have been in many situations in STFs where a gravity well would come in handy, but there were no science ships. Therefore, I have taken it upon myself to drop my own gravity well. A weak gravity well is better than no gravity well.

1. In stfs, running away, cloaking, and/or blowing up means you're not shooting, which in turn means you're not doing dps. Decloak spike is for pvp. Pve = dps. Fit embassy science console if you're getting aggro.
I have fleetmates running the two ships, One is able to get 20+K DPS in the corvette and the other gets 17+k DPS in the liner. I'd recommend the liner just because it can be setup for different play styles and focus of damage, tanking and/ or support. The corvette would be good for builds maximizing primarily for damage.
The liner can be run with or without A2B. The tac layout, when using the LT uni station for tactical BOFF slots, fits a beam array build nicely without needing A2B, though you could go with DBBs if you want a forward firing setup instead.
It's got enough engineering BOFF slots to slot 4 EPTx abilities without worrying about needing 2 or 3 purple DCEs to bring cooldowns down so you use only 2 EPTx abilities. If you have enough power, just use 2 of the same EPTx ability and you have 3 slots for engineering stuff. 2 RSP, 2 DEM, 2 extend shields, 1 or 2 engineering teams, whatever suits your play style best. It's even got enough speed that EWP is a possibility.
If you have the technicians for A2B, your could make it very tanky.
Tac abilities would be tt, BFAW and an attack pattern.
You have 3 ENS eng stations, so you could slot 2 different EPTx abilities and engineering team.
2 A2B1's. That leaves a LCDR and CDR engineering for more goodies. Whether you favor EWP to play with your prey, DEM for more damage, RSP for tanking, XS for helping support your teammates, you have plenty to satisfy your play style.
As for science, HE and ST would seem to be likely choices.
Take the corvette if you want to go for max damage, the liner for builds with more flexibilty to do damage, good tanking, support and somewhere in between.

20k in a dhc escort is decent. But 17k in a faw cruiser is horrible. He should be getting at least twice that much.
I traded the basic Qin Raptor on my Orion Engineer for the Corvette and have been loving it ever since. While I have to turn down the speed because I overrun my targets, but I have noticed with my setup that if I only keep my foreward arc facing the target, my shields don't go down as quickly. But then again, I am using a "pug" setup: Borg Assimilated deflector and Engines, KDF Honor Guard shields, Obelisk Warp Core and Beam Array, the Risian console set, and several universal consoles from reputations.

I can agree with this for most parts. But not so in one very small quibble.
Firstly, the disparity of viably good options between KDF Escorts and Cruisers / Battlecruisers.
1. Let's be blunt. Our Raptor & Destroyer line sucks and is obsolete. There is nothing special about our Raptor & Destroyer line, and the only viable choice, the Guramba, has no fleet version. Matter of fact, unless you fork out 4 FSMs, buy a lockbox / lobi Escort, you will not find a cheap KDF Escort that can perform or has something special about it with 10 console slots. Even if you do buy a Fleet Destroyer / Escort, they're specced like it's 2010, which makes them completely obsolete already. The KDF Raptor and Destroyer line are effective. From long ago. The Corvette can be attained free. It's not tanky but it is very fast and hard hitting and has way more options to build than practically all our Destroyers and Raptors which have fixed BOFF stations. If a KDF player wants fast, effective play with Commander TAC stationed ships, he either needs to do a BOP or anything else, just not a Raptor or Destroyer.
2. I like the Risian Cruiser, but the gap in playstyle between this and KDF Battlecruisers is not as noticeable as if playing Fed. The KDF Battlecruiser line already:
- Can turn well
- Can mount all beams as well as dual / dual heavy cannons, unlike the Risian Cruiser which is only beams and single cannons.
- Have standard cloak
The Risian Cruiser does have a more flexible TAC Cruiser BOFF layout.

Fleet Somraw is very good, fast enough when geared correctly, and has 2+1 engi stations so its got some survivability options after 2x EPtX

Running away is one of those survival tactics necessary for BoPs. Against a single opponent that is not overly too powerful BoPs are fine. Against multiple enemies running away becomes important depending on how powerful the ships are.
Unfortunately a BoP is no match against an elite Borg Sphere especially if the Sphere is firing Shield Neutralizer at you multiple times. Running away from Sphere's is generally a good idea when things get too hot.
Can't choose an embassy science console since I am not in a fleet.
Honestly, being a KDF, you have far more better options about tac/eng than the risa cruiser / corvette.. i will never use the risa cruiser or the corvette on a KDF lol. Not unless you like the look of the ships..

Both they are sweet cuddly adorable full of tribbles fed looking, nothing for proper kdf captain. When I dared to pull something like this out of the dock somewhere near Qo'noS, than I would have to slap by a shame.

Yeah, but they are basically free starships with 10 consoles.
The only other options would be the B'rel Retrofit (9 consoles) and the Fed Avenger with a KDF skin which costs 2,000 Zen and 2,500 Zen respectively. The other c-store KDF ships do not appeal to me.
The enhanced battle cloak is not worth the 2,000 Zen and it seems the Risian Cruiser can be made tankier than the Fed Avenger with the KDF skin with very little effort and it will not cost me any Zen.
So outside the Fleet B'Rel, how many FSMs did you guys pay for lackluster KDF Fleet Escorts and stuff?
Yeah?
Not only are the Fleet Raptors and Destroyers expensive, full 4 FSM ships, there are no special qualities about them. There are no 5 forward weapons. There are no 5 TAC Consoles. They're not any faster. They're not turning any better. They're not any more durable. They ALL have fixed BOFF stations. They're not flexible. Hell, these Fleet ships were obsolete the very minute the Fleet ship system came out with Feds having 5 TAC Console Escorts, and in the case of the Kumari, 5 forward weapons and 5 TAC Consoles. Time has moved on and the gap has grown.
The Risian Corvette is not the most durable. It has average 4 TAC Consoles but otherwise balanced Console layout. The BOFF seating provides a decent degree of flexiblity. But the ship is hands down the fastest ship in the game with excellent turn to go along with it.
At least the 'Vette has some unique, special, saving graces. And it can be attained Free, and purchased for all of your account alts for dirt cheap.
The KDF Raptors and Destroyers have none. And you're paying 4 FSMs for that if so? Or just remain stuck at 9 console ships?
The Guramba would be a special case with its Javelin, but is stuck by Cryptic's years of neglect at never having a Fleet version, something that was asked for since the Fleet Ship System came out.

Or the avenger is the mogh with fed skin
Try some mirror ships (Ki'tang in the next lock-box, Mirror Universe Negh'Var Heavy Battle Cruiser is not bad too) or buy four fleet modules for fleet ships. If you can grind for risian piece of junk than you can grind enough dill or ec for proper kdf ship. Or wait on winter event and breen ships , they look more kdf (badass) btw 20 bucks in not to much for end-game ship imo. I prefer Fleet Tor'Kaht Battle Cruiser Retrofit

This is another story , everyone knows , that the kdf ships need more love from the devs. I still expecting 5/1 Orion raider and fleet Guramba
One mogh per two years is not enough.

Sadly, im afraid that i dont have expectations about the fleet Guramba. Yes, they said that we will have it soon or later, but honestly, i dont see "cryptic" willing to give us the fleet Guramba. Too much time passed already since they claimed that we will have a fleet guramba. Still waiting after a lot of months (maybe a year?). But knowing that cryptic only worries about money, i dont think they will invest time and efforts on releasing a fleet Guramba. I hope im completely wrong.
Other point is, the fleet Guramba is something players are expecting like if it was the end of the world, and precisely cryptic is not famous to make things to make players happy fulfilling their expectations. I hope im really wrong about this.. but by this time, i know how cryptic does things and i dont really have much hope, honestly.

And you forget that there is nothing "free" in STO, the universal currency is TIME. For me, my c-store ships are free as well. Because i only invested time in em. The same if you invest time grinding for the risian ships. And i dont care about the 10 consoles, that is not the most important thing. I dont care if i have a commander tactical if i only have 3 tactical consoles, for example, that is a bottleneck only present in "cheap" ships like this Risa cruiser.
So, the only ship you like is the b'rel, and you talking about the Fed Avenger with klingon skin??? lol.
Its obvious that you dont like the KDF, but you want to play the KDF. The only ship you like is the B'rel?? lol. There are plenty of awesome options for a KDF, as we said, the Mogh, the Guramba, the Hegh'ta, and a few mirror more. Basically, all of em are better than the risa cruiser and the risa corvette. Unless you have a science toon or an engi, in that case, i suposse the Risa cruiser will fit your style more. But you will be really embarrased when people will see you piloting a Risian cruiser for a klingon toon lol. Not only it is visually out of place, but there is no sense at all, knowing that you have far more better ship options out there.
But if you are piloting a tactical captain.. hell, dont even think on the risa cruiser. The corvette will be better option and still i will NEVER pilot that thing in a KDF. Because as i said, i have far better options and better looking, by the way.

If you are using the "time" argument, then nothing in life is free. In fact, there is a cost to everything known as "opportunity cost" which basically means if you do one thing with your time, then you can do anything else (like going to a baseball game or go kayaking); it's one or the other.
Do not make the poor assumption that I do not like the KDF. I look for ships that fits the play style for my toon. The Risian Corvette is fast and very maneuverable which is why I am considering it. It's just as nimble as the Hegh'ta. The 4th tactical console along with the slightly better shield modifier and a 3rd aft weapon slot makes the loss of the battle cloak more palatable.
Since I am exclusively flying my T5 Hegh'ta Heavy BoP, I am pretty sure that means I like the ship.
I like the B'rel retrofit because it is another BoP... but to take real good advantage of the enhanced battle cloak it seems I should focus on a torpedo build which is something I don't want to focus on at this time. I've been told it's more useful for a science toon, than a tactical toon, but I think I can still make it work.
As for the Mogh, I was looking at it because it seem that it can be made to be a bit tanky even though it's base hull strength is below 40k. The 5/3 weapon layout and the cloak means it has good potential for an alpha strike. But having only 1 sci console means shield capacity / regeneration is limited. However, it is merely a Fed Average with a KDF skin. The only thing "unique" about the Mogh is the innate ability to cloak. The simple "copy and paste" job have lowered my initial interest in that ship.
The Guramba is not the type of ship I want to fly. I am not really into "transformer ships" where the ship has two modes to play with. Each mode having it's own advantages and disadvantages. I got the Dyson Science Destroyer for my Fed toon from the "A Step Between Stars" event. I have never flown it. I still have the ship because at the moment I do not need the slot it is occupying. Perhaps one day I will give it a try... unless I need the ship slot for something else. In the default mode the Guramba does not seem to be much different than the Mirror Qin Heavy Raptor that I am kitting out. Switching to siege mode seems increase its firepower, but probably also drops the turn rate to that of a cruiser while still having only an ok hull strength of 3.15k (slightly lower than the Qin). There is also the lack of any cloak. While some people may like the ship because it can transform, I simply have no interest in that ability. Ultimately, nothing about the Guramba appeals to me.
So, the only ship you like is the b'rel, and you talking about the Fed Avenger with klingon skin??? lol.
Its obvious that you dont like the KDF, but you want to play the KDF. The only ship you like is the B'rel?? lol.
Here's the flip side....
I have looked at all the C-Store ships for my Fed toon... You know what? I don't want to buy any of them. Why? None of the C-Store ships cries out to me as being vastly superior to the T5 Sovereign class Heavy Cruiser. Based on that and according to your logic I must hate the Federation more than I hate the KDF.
Just like I have the mirrior ships for my KDF toon (all but the Mirror Vo'Quv; not my play style) I also have a few mirror ships for my Fed toon. I have two Mirror Assault Cruisers and one MU Heavy Cruiser for alternative builds. The Assault Cruisers will be for serious builds. The MU Heavy Cruiser is more for fun to test out polaron weapons.
I suppose I also hate the Romulans as well since the only C-Store science ship for my Romulan Science toon is the Dyson Science ship. If I don't like the free Dyson science ship that my Fed toon received from the Season 8.5 event, then there's no way in hell I am going to pay for a "transformer ship" from the C-Store.
