old R+D Tutorial mission start stuck in my "in progress" list

I had started a new character and picked up the Memory Alpha R&D [Tutorial] mission given when you first arrive. I did not complete the first stage of the mission before Memory Alpha was removed. When i next logged in i received a message saying the mission was out of date and was removed, followed by another saying it had been picked up again. The mission cannot be dropped, and obviously cannot be completed.
