I am a silver player, with the account bank unlocked. Its my understanding that my characters each get a 10mil EC limit, and that the account bank has a 500mil EC limit?
I think, however, that currency limits count what's "in the banks" against the depositing character until such time as another character withdraws it.
Seems to be some sort of method to prevent circumventing the limit. Much as the exchange prevents people from listing an item for sale that would put them over the cap (ie, if you have 1 mil "on you", silvers can't sell on the exchange for more than 9 mil...)
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

Nope, doesnt work like this. I wish though, I hit the cap just the other day and lost out on about 6 different sales from the exchange, for million dollar items to.

That's correct.
I've an alt-account which currently still has the "10 million/per char-cap" in place, but ~50ish million in it's account bank.

Fun-fact: You can sell ships for 100mio but only take 10mio in your pocket. Rest is vaporized in deep space
