A suggestion to make hoverboard racing more fair.

OK we all know when you arrive at a race with your standard board and the guys either side of you are on superior boards any chance of getting the top prizes are toast at that point. Unless they crash out which I've never seen happen.

it is very frustrating, I've seen players rage and quit out because of it.

So after watching a touring car race on TV I saw the solution.

Different tier boards, different prizes/ point scoring. I'll try to explain.

Standard boards get their own 1st/2nd/3rd tags prize.
Enhanced get their own. 1/2/3 prizes.
Superior, also get theirs.

For example standard tier boards top prize is say 20 tags, 2nd place 18, 3rd is 15 or whatever.
Enhanced: 23 tags top prize etc
Superior: 26 tags. etc.

Doing it this way by having each tier their own 1/2/3rd place prizes, encourages people to try to get higher level boards and it also does away with people feeling trampled all over by the big guys.

I hope i explained myself properly. :D
What do you think?
Monkey see, Monkey do. Monkey flings Feathered Monkey poo... :D

I agree there should have never been actual pay to win items in the game, just cooler aesthetics.

It's a nice idea but would be programming hell to implement, first off you have random amounts of people taking part on an instance, server loading means you have a random number of instances to deal with, you then have to know who was riding which board to place them in the correct tier.

All this for what is meant to be a fun little race to get monkey tags that people end up trading in for marks anyway! Sorry but it's overkill for something that isn't a raceing simulator.

It seems bothersome. Players have already figured out how to equalize the race, anyway. Just make it official and surround the finish in cover shields. Then everyone has an equal shot again.

a better suggestion is removing the extra values for these superior and enhanced rubbish, renaming the items and put it back into the game.

already won with a wood board yesterday out of 5 attempts in total at the time and i also finished 3rd next to 2 superior boards who were nowhere to be seen, and a 6th on a rental well ahead of the other wood board players who made up half the grid for that race. its not impossible, just unlikely you will get a race were that woodboard can get something out of it.

The idea of a completely optional, low reward "PvP" event during an event having "pay-to-win" is pretty damned hilarious.

First place gets some lolnuts and some monkey tags. Last place/thanks-for-playing-have-a-concession-prize rewards are still some lolnuts and a few monkey tags.

Coming dead last in the race 3 times is enough to do your monkey breeding for the day. Coming in 1st means you don't have to care for two days. The results of monkey breeding are mark packages or a vanity pet.

It's all meaningless, purely optional stuff. How the hell can there be "pay-to-win" in that? Seriously.

The pay2win nature of the summer race is pretty bad, especially considering the winter race is a pure test of skill. This is why I'm glad some people have made the race fair for all by engaging in emergent gameplay with covershields at the finish line. The only people who rage when these pop up on the track are the pay2winners who just lost to the casual player on a standard board. Just because they can't afford the 1500 favours for a top of the line faction board doesn't mean they should be eliminated from what should be a skill-based race.

But you know what? I guess it doesn't matter now does it? By being allowed to visit their studios Cryptic has pretty much signed off on you and your fleet haven't they? They've said in deed what most of us have suspected for years. They're not going to stop you. They're not going to correct you. You won. After long last, you really, really won. STO is yours and no one is going to do a thing about it. Congratulations.

you dont understand, its not the reward its the race, people like the challenge each other to games like this and win if they can. but to some like yourself its not the race its the rewards as paltry as they are.

There is no difference in board between the 1000 and the 1500 boards except appearance, and as others have pointed out you don't need a top of the line board to win, so the use of cover shields IMO (and it is my option not forcing it on anyone else) cheating and greifing, and for what is supposed to be just a fun idea to get a few tags way over the top.

I think it is more indicative of the players need to win rather than take part in something to gather tags for the monkey, after all the devs could have put in another hunt but decided a race might be more fun, instead I see a lot of "wha wha, I didn't win so it's broken" posts.

Remember this is another grind not a race!

I only race on the rental, and I'm not fussed about coming last most the time (Though I have managed better at times). Yes, it cuts into my tags and therefore marks, but... As I consider it a cheap way of making said marks, it's not a big issue.

To some like myself? I ran it a bunch opening weekend and had enough tags to last me the entire event. At this point I just run it occasionally to run it, the rewards are meaningless.

Good job trying to speak for my motives.
