Is there still a commodity market? Is the Ferengi trait still important?

Is the Ferengi lower price trait still important, considering that commodities are no longer required for reputation projects?

The reason for asking is that I managed to get a cell ship, and not sure which of my characters should use it. I have a Ferengi alt, but it seems like a waste to open it with my alt, when I like to play the most with my main character.

    Well commodities are still required in epic amounts for the Fleet base/holding missions.
    I find a Ferengi useful for purchasing those items in bulk.

    Note to Cryptic... when a 'DAILY' mission requires 10,000 shield generators and you can only buy 100 at a time it gets really tedious VERY quickly.

    In terms of using your cell ship, you mentioned that you have a ferengi alt, and I wondered if it was an alt toon on your account or an alternative account entirely.

    Having a cell ship on an alt account is very useful as you can invite characters on your main account over to take the Tau Dewa doff missions, and other sector based doff mission using the ships transwarp drive.

    Having the cell on your main toon isn't really necessary - you aren't gonna charge into battle in it!

    Oh yes, good that you mention fleet projects. :) I tend to forget about the commodities in that regard. Usually I use DOFFs instead, because as far as I remember I calculated that cheap DOFFs off the Exchange have better EC / fleet credit ratio; but I could try to use more commodities with the convenient access of the cell ship...

    My Ferengi alt is on the same account. I read about the benefit of the alt account. But how is that works? :confused: I would need to run two instances of the game simultaneously? Or to have two completely separate installs? Won't it ruin the FPS even more (I'm struggling with FPS issues since S9 launch)?

    Cell ship, freighter and embassy made the ferengi trait obsolete. You do not get a discount there, everybody can buy there at the lowest possible price. Federations... ehm.... Cryptics way to make us all equal.

    Oh, I thought that the Ferengi discount and the cell ship discount was additive. Then the non-Ferengi characters get the same prices on the cell ship as the Ferengi characters?

    No. They have higher prices than Ferengi chars.

    Just rechecked it, you are right. The cell ship is selling it higher to non ferengis. But the embassy is selling it lower than the cell ship and ferengis get no discount.

    That's because all commodities have an ec:fc ratio of 60:1 (with the ferengi discount, it's 80:1 without it). So doffs are only a better deal for fleet credit if they're under 18000 ec on the exchange. And that's if you're getting 300 fc per doff. If it's a 250 "any white doff" grind, then you need to find them for 15000 or less to profit.

    It's possible for civilian doffs to be a cheaper path to fc than commodities. But those grinds fill quickly (at least in my fleet) and you're left with paying 25K ec, at least, for other doffs, which is a worse return but, hey, it might be good for you if you need the fc a lot more than the ec.

    I did not know that the embassy gives as good a discount as the lobes discount. That'll save me some time when it comes to transferring stuff between toons.

    i got 2 freighters

    with the embassy price reductions i dont think the cell ship is worth having unless your looking for special doffs from recruitment

    you wont save enough ec to pay for the cost of it

    once you hit t5 its pretty worthless

    Ah, just went and checked and it's a 25% discount at the fleet embassy (as opposed to the 20% ferengi discount) and it's only on Warp Coils, Self Sealing Stem Bolts, Entertainment Provisions, Industrial Replicators, Seismic Stabilizers, and Terraforming Systems. Nice, but not enough to give up on my ferengi toon.
