Is the Defiant still a good ship?

Hey Guys,

I haven't logged into the game for over a year now, and was wondering if a Defiant with Accx3 weapons is still a relevant ship.....I was one of the better players when I left, and it seems like the game has changed a lot....has it changed for the better, or worse? Is the Defiant still a relevant ship? Thanks.

Its still a good ship, but there are a bunch of other ships that are much much better. Still more than enough for most PVE, of course. Its good enough for about half the PVP maps too, but the other half you get destroyed over and over--problem is you never know which one it will be.

Hm, ok....thanks. I remember killing lots of people in PvP with that ship.......it was fun when a klingon would uncloak behind me, then I would turn around and just destroy it.....lol.

How about the Patrol Escort? I haven't logged into the game for such a long time I don't even remember what ships I have...I don't even think I have the fleet variants...

The Defiant is still great for PvE. For PvP though, take a look at the new Fleet Patrol Escort, Hirogen Hunter Heavy Escort, Rust Bucket, Jem Hadar Attack Ship, or the Undine Nicor Bio-ship.

Your Accx3 Weps will still be good. Get the new Spire Tactical consoles with the +CrtH mod.

The Defiant is still a good performer but Cryptic has implemented other Escorts that are easier to survive yet still have as much firepower as the Defiant.

The revamped Patrol Escort makes a good crutch :D

If only it didn't look like absolute TRIBBLE.

Kumari significantly outdps Defiant. Nowadays, it doesn't only have low survivability, it's not even the highest dmg escort anymore. The only reason left to get it over alternatives is because you're a Defiant fan.;)

The Defiant isn't a bad ship it's just not the best.

In other areas like PvP other escorts have surpassed it greatly due it its inflexible boff layout. It has survivability issues there. But can still pack a punch.

But PvE it's still relevant for an escort.

Active Duty Officers can Disguise/Mask this quite a bit if your willing to put the EC into it. 3 Purple Duty Officers with a chance to reduce the cooldown on Emergency Power to X should help greatly, But I might go for a Science Andorian to shove Flow Cap Consoles with the Leech.

I flew 2 Defiants primarily for 2 years so I know. A Tac and a Sci.

With only a lt engineer boff if you want 2 EPTX then you lose RSP? AUX2SIF? AUX2DAMP? pretty heavy trade off there. And with only a single EPTX it pretty much makes Warp Core cleanse doff nearly useless as once every 30 seconds is "ehh" but if you were to get Nuked the you'll have to wait 2 minutes for that EPTX for the clear. Then carry a ST which will be 30 sec CD unless you doff it but we're running out of doff space fast when other escorts don't have this problem.

More of a problem for PvP than PvE

I use Emergency Power to Shields 2 and Emergency Power to Engines 1, my DOFF's that reduce the cooldown for emergency power to x proc most of the time by the time the ability if up its cooldown is nearly up as well, and if it doesn't proc and a few times that happens I can use the other ability to Run or Tank which ever option I have available.

Which is more than enough for PvE. Not PvP

Other escorts can have EPTS+EPTE and either a RSP, AUX2DAMP1, AUX2SIF. That's where the Defiant falls short next to other escorts.

I have a few other things like that Rechargeable Battery plus Science Team 2, it isn't pro pvp but I can generally win against the people that I challenge, not so much against the people who challenge me, but you are right the Defiant is in its Dusk phase in ship balancing for pvp. I am just curious though what escort do you Suggest, I got a Bug as well so thats a option as well.

Bugs are great...the people you challenge are baddies...the defiant sacrifice too much and gains nothing.

You can't dogfight. Both damage and staying power are on the low end in comparison to many other top ships. A vape build is viable except your a one trick pony. Blow your load and hope for a kill...vapes are gimmicks nowadays...annihilates bad players but good players can challenge and destroy with ease

Yes it still a very fun ship to use, and still can dish out major pain. I still use mine some when I get a chance to use one of my other alts other than the main 3 I use.

And the other ships probably turn faster and move faster than you too, so they stay right on top of you and beat through your lack of healing, all the while healing through whatever you happen to throw back at them.

The big mistake on these ships was not making the ensign a sci. You can do a lot with 3 sci stations, engi healing becomes much less important, or you can be more aggressive with things like tractor beam, etc. That would have provided some nice interplay vs KDF and their engi-heavy shipline, and left over-tac as an option for romulans. One of the biggest mistakes in the game.

Thanks for the input guys....it's really sad since I was a great PvP'er with the Defiant...People were really surprised how well I could tank with it. I know, tanking with a Defiant seems to contradict....but I was able to tank pretty well considering.....I guess I will try out the Patrol escort. I will probably have to re-learn a lot since I have been away for so long.

Well that is the curse for being one of the Original Retrofits. I just wish the Dev's believed in modifying there ship designs after they are released, instead of no buff no nerf to the ships. I am aware of how power creep works as a business model, but... some of the things they are letting fall into obsolescence are Really Cool, so that has to enrage a portion of the community a bit.

I'm not. All I see is that everything gets obsoleted on purpose, the new hotness will be obsoleted too, so best not to buy anything. Constantly poking your proven customers in the eye doesnt seem like much of a business model.

Its odd that they have the rule. They act like they are protecting investment while they happily make it wholly obsolete. Assumption now is that they just dont want to be obligated to fix stuff that was obsoleted.

    Yes.

Just like the JHAS. The JHAS is still good but nowhere near how good it was with the newer ships coming out now. They've closed the gap.

Another more subtle example is the Galor. The ship and weapons package is still good but IMO, it's quite an average ship these days. It does nothing special compared to the likes of already long established TAC Cruisers or Battlecruisers. Even the once vaunted Spiral Disruptors aren't that special anymore. I wouldn't pay what it is going for these days because of how average the Galor has become.

Newer ships have simply gotten better. The gap has closed quite a bit with the JHAS. All the other lockbox / lobi ships have been caught up for most parts.

The Risian Corvette( 10 console) is free with grinding in the summer event, it needs 1000 pearls for the first one and 40 on additional characters, with 40 available each day per character but non-transferable, problem being if you haven't started the grind it is probably too late to start and get one this year unless you sell lobi for pearls.
