Now please make the matches fun and give people a chance. I understand why the queues are empty. When certain people are playing they just beat everything in minutes. My last match lasted 5 minutes. I was proud that I managed to tank 5 people for over a minute, but it was too late
The queues are empty, why? Because there are people going around that make matches last only 5 minutes. Once this stops and people are actually matches both skill and gear wise (and actually class wise, so no 5 tacs vaping), you will see more people playing. I just had to wait 20 minutes to get in queue just to get blown up and lose in 5 minutes
Here's a message to so called "pro" players. You are geared. You might be good. But step down and make PvP fun again. There's no challenge in killing a whole group in seconds. They will quit and you will end up waiting too.
At the moment, this game revolves too much around killing your enemy before they kill you, nullifying support and defensive builds in matches like this. No matter what set/build, it should be star trek again and not tab burst tab burst tab burst.. You can save that for PvE.
Comments
OP, what you descibe happens due to lack of a matchmaking system.
Solo queues are doing a damn fine job at smoothing out the groups. Your pugging into 5v5? You crazy

at least someone knew I was being sarcastic... poe's law I guess. I'll make sure to broadcast my humor a little more clearly next time.
And your join date, think you're pro in 4-5 months at best? I've seen some exceptional builds that go far beyond what you describe and are very effective.
Intelligence is more useful than gear. When you mix intelligence with gear you are unstoppable. What are you missing?

:hands cookie:
that was unexpected, nailed it :P
Experience, Gearing, Teammates, Skills, Knowledge, etc, etc, etc...none of it matters if you'll just do what I do.
What's that, VD?
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
People expect too much out of themselves when they first start PvP. They gear all the way up and then think gear is an acceptable substitute for things like experience, knowledge and skill. It is not. I already know somebody's going to blow me out of the stars whenever I play PvP. Because they're better at it. However, if I put in the time and learn from my mistakes, just like they did, eventually I'll perform better at PvP.
Until cryptic implements it's massive PvP overhaul which is coming "soon" you got two choices: try your best to adapt and have fun while not taking it *too* seriously or just quit and stick to PvE.
I've done quite a few PvP matches now and I see a similarity between all. People like to burst, they like to kill. They roll escort style with insane dmg buffs. Next to that, they have constant movement impairing resist skills (omega, epte, a2d, etc). You can't stop them from moving so they become vulnerable, they can 1 shot you with over 100k dmg, they have insane endurance due to high speed. When they are finally at low hp/shield, they pop another speed buff and off they go.
This isn't Star Trek nor PvP. This is gank and hide and quite frankly, this is all I see in solo/duo queue
1. The beginner...you fly into combat with only yourself in mind...you heal yourself and only care about your target
2. The veteran... he knows what he's doing...you toss heals on your teammates, you can take a punch. you change to the focus fire target. You think your pretty good and to a beginner, you are
3. The elite...you know what's happening, you see the patterns. you defend the alphas, nuke the ever living TRIBBLE out of a target as soon as their oh **** abilities go off uptime. You are a vet, but you are also so much more. You are beyond what normal pvpers do...you are timing, you control when someone will pop...and it feels good.
Through my experience, most players are beginners, there may be 1 or 2 vets on either side...and when there's an elite...you notice. They may not do the most heals or damage. But they contribute the most to the kill counter
My PvE/PvP hybrid skill tree
My list goes a bit different...
1. The beginner...you fly into combat with only yourself in mind...you heal yourself and only care about your target. Because you're a beginner - you really don't have all the knowledge and experience that another player does. You're focused on trying to do what you can do, unaware of all that you could do. You usually don't have much time to do much more than you do. You usually find anytime you try to help out - it doesn't mean much, cause it's usually too early or too late to matter. So you're going to focus...you're going to get better. You know your day will come!
2. The veteran... you fly into combat with only yourself in mind...you heal yourself and only care about your target. Because you're tired and jaded - you just don't really care any more. You figure that it's just going to be a spamfest, that RNG will determine the outcome, and in the end it no longer really matters what you do. You've got a nagging feeling that the only reason you're still playing is out of habit, but you're still clinging to some fun times you once had and the hope that you'll accidentally stumble upon them again one day.
3. The elite...you fly into combat with only yourself in mind...you heal yourself and only care about your target. Because...well, because...nobody else is simply worthy. They're all beneath you. The folks on your team are just holding you back. The folks on the other team are barely worth the keybind used to kill them. They must all be punished for wasting your time. So you will punish them...you will make them regret not being as good as you are.
going full stardagger
I do miss his banter. Wonder what he thinks about EvE vs Star Citizen ...
Edit: Forgot about his staying cloaked for long durations, was never sure if that was Psy OPs or just insisting on having every buff available on attack runs. Probably a mix of both.

Sad but true.
I'm trying to fulfil the healing role with some additional CC.. But it's hard if your team just gets obliterated
