Can I get a costume team dev response on this?

With the process started with the last major update to switch Starfleet NPC's to the new standard uniform, I had a few questions.

I can assume that there are plans for the availability of the Odyssey uniform for players, now that it's being made the standard Starfleet uniform. Hopefully that means the basic version will no longer be gated behind a Starbase unlock, with the unlock instead being replaced by the "advanced" version of the uniform.

First actual question, will the Odyssey uniform (and for the KDF the Bortas uniform) be made available in the Foundry, as almost every Starfleet NPC will be using the Odyssey uniform now? It's hard to match the current look of the game when not even an approximate match is available for custom NPCs. It's also extremely limiting to only use pre-built NPC costumes just so they have the correct uniform.

On a semi-related note, my next question also pertains to the Foundry; would it be possible at all for the reputation costume sets to be made available for use on custom NPCs, as well? M.A.C.O., Omega Force, Honor Guard, Dyson, Counter-Command, etc. This is another "modern" look which cannot currently be replicated in the Foundry for custom NPCs, and is limited to the black "Facility 4028" look for pre-built Starfleet Captain rank NPCs. (The "aliengen" captain also has a unique tail not available to alien player characters and BOffs.)

The "fleet of 2409" starship costumes are also missing from the Foundry, aside from unique ships such as the Odyssey and Avenger (which are both missing window options).

I'm hoping that these things are one the schedule to do, sooner or later.

You should assume no such thing. Let me introduce you to the current Cryptic customer ranking.

    1. Trolls
    2. Federation Fleet Members
    3. Klingon Fleet Members
    4. Paying Federation Player Customers
    5. Paying Klingon Player Customers
    6. Paying Romulan Player Customers
    7. Everyone else except:
    8. Paying Customers with Many Characters of Different Factions.

The cynical response aside, I agree with the overall conclusion (not necessarily anytime soon), if not the specific reasons.

The way I see it, in addition to the C-store stuff, there's a real affinity for the "grind" mechanic in the game's development, and to be honest, it's what all us old-timers feared when we heard PWE was buying Cryptic.

PWE's other (read: non-Cryptic) games tend to be the classic "grinder" popular over in many parts of east Asia. The game mechanic looks an awful lot like "press button, get pellet, repeat 1^50 times, get no closer to the end".

So I'm not sure Cryptic has much input into this decision. PWE has likely mandated that most of the "essentials" that make endgame worth playing, as well as a few very popular quality-of-life things like the newest and now-standard uniforms, are likely stuck behind grind gates forever.

Even if it's not that specific of an edict, I'm sure "make them grind for everything they care about" pretty much covers it.

I'd love nothing more than for them to prove me wrong, but they likely can't even address it in a direct manner, or would be forced to deny everything, with it being a PWE priority and therefore above anyone's pay-grade at Cryptic.

Again, I hope I'm wrong. But everything I've seen so far in terms of endgame (grind, grind, grind) has reinforced that notion we feared a couple years ago before the sale was final.

However, in the grand scheme, it's still better than the blatant non-development and profit-siphoning Atari did, so we're still ahead of where we were. No way LoR happens if Cryptic was still owned by those deadbeats.

That said, again, I hope I'm proven wrong and the Odyssey uniforms get out from behind the grind gate. The more stuff that does, the happier I am.

From my past experience with Cryptic, I think this is accurate.

I agree with everything in the OP

Its sad we can't replicate the current Uniform in the foundry for me, I like to keep everything looking as up to date as possible
( For that matter where are the jupiter uniforms ? I've wanted them since I first saw them in game , but alas , not in the foundry )

To be fair... the amount of grind needed for the Odyssey uniform is managable. If you are dedicated to getting it, you will after a day or two.
Even if you are not permanently in a fleet you can get a guest invite to a T3+ base relatively easy.

That's beside the point. To earn the official Starfleet uniform, you have to learn a bit of STO mechanism (fleet and all), know enough to find a guest invite in a fleet, and be lvl 50 (I don't think we can make FC at lower level, and grinding dil is a pain).

I don't know, that would be like joining the army, but having to make an officer club, buy a tailor shop, so you are able to buy your uniform. Or ask for another officer club with a tailor shop.
    Doesn't make sense.

Actually, you can get Fleet Credits starting at Level 3-4, I think. On my latest KDF toon, I had her at 100K FC in a day - well before she hit Lieutenant Commander - owing to having her feed doffs to my KDF base. Thus, I had her in a Bortasqu Uniform pretty quickly.

I think the earliest you can start getting FM is...level 11 or so. I leveled a toon last year on Deferra Hards and pair of very good KDF Engineers.

I think there are some plans for it, I just don't think they're happening anytime soon. :(

Paying or not, do you really think Klingon players are that high up?

If anything, I figure they might give out the Odyssey uniform for free in the upcoming Expansion 2. The only clue I have for believing the that they'll do it at all is that the dev who posted the "official 2410 uniform" colors on Reddit said that he had written a blog post for it; he claimed it would be up in a day or two, but it has yet to appear after several weeks. My thinking is that they're holding this post back for the "release" of the uniform to everyone.

As it is now yes. It wasn't always like that.
