Removing ship loadouts.

The shuttle event saw me make more use of the ship loadout system and it was then that I wondered how do we delete them especially on unique ships?
My Timeship has 4 loadouts and so taking in to account the 2 free ones I'm using up 2 bought ones. On my Scimitars, Advanced Escorts and Bortasq's I know I can just delete the ship but in the case of an ever growing number of unique ships I don't see how we can accept to reuse old loadouts and try not to make more. I've bought 20 and down to 9 it seems (lot of ships with 1-2 extra loadouts adds up).
Is it possible to get around this or delete provided we remove all equipment first (which we'd normally do if deleting a ship)?
