Today I had a talk with a friend, and we discussed of what's wrong with PvP, this time forgetting of ships, consoles etc, it's become a so usual behavior to QQ over them...
to sort things out, PvP in STO is heavily team based. The many outweighs the single. From an objective point of view, come by with an effective build from scratch is mission impossible. It took me months to acquire the basics and refine my piloting abilities. But who tells newcomers how skill points mathematically affects them? Time their buffs? Keybind properly? Gear? TT boosts damage skills based on crew? No one, all things they have to understand.
Community did, and does, an awesome work on teaching PvP knowledge. We're PvP; devs should decide to provide incentives for playing it, not addressing so called "power creep". What's power creep? A tactical Scimitar obliterating you out of cloak with dual heavies? A well times BO? Mini's barrage? Is there a disable creep for Sci that subuke, scan, drain you to death? Healing creep from healers? They can, they figured out how. Everything should be nerfed 'cause of people who don't understand. Might as well go watch Mickey Mouse then and DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM STO.
Hell, just queue for it. Not every match will do great, defeats are part of the game, even when you may feel to have ship crappy because it came out with a relatively bad performance.
My idea? PvP does just fine, it's just not for casuals. And that's great, because you need some brainpower to play.
Teamwork involves going into the possibly pugs/possibly premades. Your expected to toss heals and provide focus fire against a called target.
Kirking is the solo/duo queue. You don't know what your getting into but you know the other side doesn't as well. Fly hard, shoot hard and be a pro and toss a heal on your teammates.
The issue I see is that the difference in gear can be too great. But the pool of pvpers is so tiny that segregation would only hurt queue times.
You omit one point. This way PvP Community never will grow. In fact it will get smaller, because people will leave at some point as they are getting bored by and by. And in the end it will end up like Ground PvP (with about ~30 players?), which always been rather ungracious to new players. Sure some people help them out, but there always been a couple of campers, gankers and griefers.
There are maybe 1 in a 100 or 1 in a 1000 who takes the challenge. The vast majority just will leave soon after they first tried PvP.
So there needs to be some measures so that new players can avoid to get freezed out. Nonetheless there are lot of PvE who just don't want to compete with other players, as they can not cope with loosing.
Additional there could be a better Tutorial in this game, but this is a point that is required at mulitple places here.
Conclusion:
There needs to be a system that saves new players from running into teams full of veterans in the beginning, elsewith PvP as such will deteriorate by and by.

Most games with a good pvp system got a matchmaking system and a "pvp rating" that at least tries to put equal players against each other.
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
Might wanna balance the game first. STO PVP is a joke to me. Too much BS mechanics and cheese. By the way I am the number 1 player in 1vs1 PVP. I treat this game like pokemon, look for the counter and 'super effective.' It's at the point where no one fights me anymore...
Again STO PVP = LOL. Balance the game then I won't LOL.
The dress is gold and white. Over 70% people says so. When viewed from a certain screen angle it appears blue and black. The dress displayed on amazon is a blue and black dress, but it's not the same dress in the picture. If you're seeing blue & black you're slightly colored blind. A normal upright screen = white and gold.

Yeah he must be right!!!Because, the self-proclaimed, self-crowned number 1 players are indeed the best kind of number 1 players. Didn't you know!!
Please ignore the YouTube videos where you can see said self-proclaimed loose miserably, these were just negligable tremors in the force, nothing to see folks move on move on.

Not without reason. IMHO, PvP in this game is really bad because of those items.
The game does not give players a chance to play PvP in a balanced environment. Player skills are often overshadowed by a combination of item gimmicks. Also I get the impression that the devs have little to no idea about balance when they hand out items with atrocious stats/effects.
I don't think it's going to change. I'd say, either adapt to the PvP hate, or stay away from it.

Sorry guys, couldnt resist. :P
Good for you, but the fact is anyone who so called beat me, have never battled me again and/or is too afraid to.
Funny Feedback pulse is the best counter to Vapers/Roms. If you knew a little about PVP , you'll know FBP is truly the BEST way to deal with 60K DPS scimitars and stupid vaper noobs. The defense to attack ratio in the game is laughable. It's way too much offense going on. It's so bad people die to feed back pulse I buffed by no particle generators. Another fact is people are just too lame to stop spamming space bar.
The reason I claim to be number 1 is because I AM... Posting old TRIBBLE videos from last year is all people do now, because they're a 0% threat to me currently and I'll back that up...
I don't care who they are, or claim to be. I will beat them. FACT.
Sorry STO, I couldn't resist. :P

Bringing a feedback pulse build into a 1v1 is pure silliness to begin with. What happeness if your opponents decide not to shoot at your feedback pulse? Or maybe not to shoot at all. You will not be able to kill him then, your "awesome number 1 build" will be as useful as an appendix. If you can't kill your opponent, you cannot win, only draw. A draw is not a win.
Why don't you hop into an escort and show some of the skill that you apparently have in abundance?

Don't tell me it's 0 gear, and also don't tell me it's individual skill like it is on hilbertboard. Because both categories are completely subjective either to reputation traits and/or absolutely situational.
and 5th example solo/duo q http://hilbertguide.com/leaderboard/encounter.php?id=9396
balance: 0.91 match duration: 6mins
I had this one on video but i didn't upload it. What this report can't tell you besides that it was a clash of tacticals without outgoing heals is that the match was literally decided in last 30 seconds with 5 kills for my team on result 10:12.
So the point is: what kind of balance do "balance" guys want:
Class balance?
leaderboard skill balance?
ship balance?
gear balance?
lobi gear balance?
do we want matches that last longer because there are 5 tanks on one side, or both sides? is that balance? or 5v5 ramming speed escorts? or 5v5 sci?
I would be very happy with custom games and in-game set tournaments. So that people can open matches without or with this and that.
They could even implement 3rd person spectating mode.
IMO best balance would be algorithm that would sort teams with atleast 2 ships(any class) per team with actual killing damage potential.
Tactical with 500DPS potential doesn't fall in that cathegory, just like self-healer, or some strange sci.
It would actually be very easy to bring PvP 10 steps forward with 3 small steps.
-reputation progress with unique rewards, by unique i mean unique per drop.
-unranked custom games
-leader board and leader board/class based balancing
or something even better what i can't think of right now.

Good PvP is always a growing challenge. You can play it to win, or you can play it not to lose.
Latter mindset is what all the QQ, nerf, "game is dead-i'm leaving-but i will be back to troll" threads are all about.
Of course there is legitimate game disrupting stuff complaints, and it's mostly not because one ship is a super-duper drainer, or super-duper debuffer, or attacker, it's because you can make a full drainer team, or full TIF, Theta, doffed PSW, TBR, AMS and SS team and in practice disrupt the game, troll it.

Folks still hit up Cracked for 1v1s...really wish they'd give Ker'rat the N'Vak treatment of having no warp with the reset.

The guy who who beat you has indeed more than one video uploaded of you getting pwnd. So he actually "battled" you again and won again.
And what is "so called beat me" intend to imply? He beat you period. He beat you fair and clean while you desperatly tried to cheese him up.
All nonsense, I wasn't even at full power then. So any video is null and void during that time. A lot has changed now.

The thing I hated most about those shows was...for the 20 or so minutes that each episode was outside of commercials...9 minutes was spent talking about what had already happened - 9 minutes was spent talking about what was going to happen...and you'd be lucky to get a minute's worth of something new with each show.
I once had Queen rage at me in /zone for not helping when he got grouped up on by a bunch of feds. I was actually going to help, but then I remembered he's an arrogant piece of work, so I let the feds tear him a new one so I could dance all over the burning husk. Of course, I couldn't respond because I've been on his ignore list for like 2 years, I think.
Isaac the Adequate - Level 70 Oath of Devotion Paladin
It amuses me when scora goes on that he's the best #1 pvper. It's hilarious. A ram will always kill a FBPer.
[Combat (Self)] Your Ramming Speed III deals 139918 (147845) Kinetic Damage to Queen Scora
Just wait till the TRIBBLE voth immunity shield is gone, boom. dead.
When scora as lyra had tet cannons on a hirogen, was easily killed as well. Also, when he seems to be losing, he'll make an inflated number up, and log/relog to other character saying "500 v 1, nope not going to continue. Not happening"
A true pvper will continue on to his death when outnumbered, and take one with him
Quote about STO on consoles: "Not quite as bad as No man's sky, but a close second."
I beat his Scimitar, then his escort, then he tells me to buy the escort he has, then he said I hack and yelled at me and my buddy for two hours about how I'm a hacker and he's l33t pro pvper with his 30k dps escort in ISE.
So pro.
Edit: Or maybe it was Tribble Queen. I have no idea. They're both bad.
DESPERATION"]All nonsense, I wasn't even at full power then. So any video is null and void during that time. A lot has changed now.
Well, if that BS is an acceptable excuse for losing, anyone can use that whenever the situation is reverse and you win.
"I wasn't even at full power/skill/ability/experience/interest/God-hood."
Still laughing at the ridiculousness of this whole claim.
*silently stares at thread, wondering what happened*
A Nadion bomb nowadays fixes any issues.
There are two people I know who FBP only, Kax and scora. First one is a whole lot of fun to play with, funny RP (at first I didn't like him, but I learnt to love this guy especially after hearing on TS, was roflrolling on the pavement), and doesn't do the elitist. scora (as I said, my Nadion fixes problems :P ) does pretty much like Kax with ship, but at times behaves like 2 years old girl.
Claiming to be the best player among millions is an assumption that doesn't stand as PvP is heavily team based. There's no skill in pressing a button and be done with, nor there is in faw-atb-dem-beam-lame-scimis as well. Hell i blow up ships with Scimitar w/ dual heavies and torpedoes (and hey, it's a hell difficult and fun to pilot with cannons, been congratulated quite a few times for playstyle, and all on manual :P) or go with a classic Escort layout and fly Federation, which still gives me lots of satisfaction.
It's not true that FBP is the only counter to damage. What are tacs supposed to do? Put kittens in blenders? Actually, a narrow-minded person would say so. I for one, when I use a fast ship I speed around at like over 70 degrees (partially evaded Mini's barrage today, FBP would have helped me?). On Scimitar I cloak as much as possible to retain fast movement, Avenger and Excelsior tends to both tank and keep high speeds on their own. Really, don't say FBP is the only counter, because that's BS.
How come some time ago you hunted my fleet Tempest for an hour in Ker'rat and never got me? You had to be in two b'rels to just make me decide to go for a ram and kill myself, as you've been nadioned to death, and then I brought the other guy with me in the grave. Hmm, that's not a really "pro number 1", performance, isn't it?
I beat his Scimitar, then his escort, then he tells me to buy the escort he has, then he said I hack and yelled at me and my buddy for two hours about how I'm a hacker and he's l33t pro pvper with his 30k dps escort in ISE.
So pro.
Edit: Or maybe it was Tribble Queen. I have no idea. They're both bad.
I hope you don't mean me. Never spoke with you apart when I said a big "TRIBBLE you" on opvp for your rants.
Claiming to be the best player among millions is an assumption that doesn't stand as PvP is heavily team based.
PVP is heavily team based only if you're one of those players who can't hold their own. I hear this excuse way too much. Relying on others and losing because of others is not something I'm a fan of. If you can't take care of you, how are you gonna take care of someone else?
I'm the only person in STO who can claim 'Best in the Universe' and no one challenges it. Yeah, the fear is that bad:
"I gotta go to bed". " I don't have time". "I don't like your attitude". "I beat you in 2012". "You use feed back pulse." "Omg you use drain". "You have senor jam". "You have Reflective Immunity Matrix". "I have to go to work". "My daughter has to use the computer." "PVP is teamed based." "Don't like your ship."
It appears what I said is true, No one has the ability to officially beat me as of now. Bringing up the past and making excuses is the only offense most players have when they see me.
The fact still stands... People are too Afraid. Deep down they know I'm telling the truth. If anyone loses to me I don't say anything, I don't make pics, or create videos. Battle is all I want and care about. I'll stop posting in this thread now. Laters.

There's two "levels" of pvp.
Teamwork and kirking.

Edit: Or maybe it was Tribble Queen. I have no idea. They're both bad.

Well, if that BS is an acceptable excuse for losing, anyone can use that whenever the situation is reverse and you win.
"I wasn't even at full power/skill/ability/experience/interest/God-hood."
Still laughing at the ridiculousness of this whole claim.
Of course, part of the charm was the music.
I hope you don't mean me. Never spoke with you apart when I said a big "TRIBBLE you" on opvp for your rants.
Laters.
Typical pvper arrogance.
