Just seen an updated Facebook post from ST:R asking a simple question;
This is going to be an explosive post but we want to know your opinion. Prior to posting your comments, remember you are a Star Trek fan and please be respectful. Be thoughtful when using "colorful metaphors". Orci....Director....thoughts?
Link to page

So what are peoples thoughts on Roberto Orci, should he direct ST:R? Will you be more or less likely to watch ST:R if he does direct it?

as long as they dont have those 2 useless writers from the jjtrek films they may do ok having this guy as director.

    erm.....

(IMDB also has him listed on ST: Into Darkness[2013] as a writer)

So, I'll take your vote as a no then? :P

Conflict of Interest. As long as Orci is attached to the JJ Universe, then he shouldn't direct anything that is set in the Prime Universe.

Isn't Tim Russ director of Star Trek: Renegades?

I think they are talking about Roberto Orci directing Star Trek 3, sequel to JJ.Trek.

anyone with a ounce of sense would realize that orci is contracted elsewhere, he would be too expensive in both short and long term, long term as in he will tear the whole thing up and build it up the way orci would want. there is no upside to the idea. this is why i dont believe a word of such tripe.

Renegades is a fan made production to be presented to CBS as a pilot episode for a new series. Has some interesting names in it (Tim Russ, Walter Koenig, Robert Picardo), and seems worthy to watch, especially since it'll be free. I recommend you google it and see where you end up. There are some trailers out there.

As for subject: I'm willing to give Orci a chance to direct XIII. He has never been in that chair, so who knows? I like the previous JJverse movies, so I see no reason why I wouldn't like this one. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt for now.

I think at the moment he is, not sure if they want Orci to take over or work alongside Russ (as some productions have more than 1 director).

I think they should try and get Frakes involved personally, as he is an experienced ST director and actor.

Though from the current 2 trailers I'm liking what Russ is doing.

As for the comments calling it "fan made" - with all the cast and crew from various ST series being involved, it's quite a bit more than just "fans", it is a wealth of Star Trek experience coming together in a way no other Trek can.

All well and good. Also all of which I was previously aware, leading me to believe you missed my off-topic non-point entirely. I was merely amazed at the horrendous typo in the thread's title- using "Regenages" in place of "Renegades." Auto-correct booboos are common fare these days, but those usually result from an actual word (other than the one intended) being put in place of a typo.

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled fanfic worship.

I had not even noticed that had happened, that's what I get for using the forums when tired :(

(and it won't let me correct it either :( )

The question posted on the FB page may have been asking people's thoughts about Orci directing Trek 3, since all the replies seem to reflect that. Having him attached to Renegades wouldn't make much sense since I'm sure he's focused on directing Trek 3 right now. And isn't Renegades currently filming anyway, or has wrapped up and is in post-production?

if its about trek 3, then thats already answered, but it makes no sense on the renegades front with directorship role.

Or, possibly, the internet is filled with people of less-than-stellar intellect and they all missed the point of the not-entirely-clear question.

But that would mean assuming there are stupid people on the internet, and who in a game forum would believe that? ;)

Either way, I'm not sure I'd want him to direct anything, be it a game, series or film connected to Star Trek.

I consider the reboot to be a lost cause now, so, anyone involved should just move on to other projects. (My heart goes out to Star Wars fans knowing JJ is doing that an injustice next).
