Decided to try it out today. Admittedly, the character I used it on is a ground-specced and focused toon, so it really didn't have squat for space gear.
Even so, I am so glad i finally picked it up, particularly with the rumored possible fleet version that we might see. Siege mode and the Javelin is a tremendous amount of fun. Sure it has no fleet version atm, so it's only a 9 console ship, but even so, it has some really good staying power like a solid Fed escort would, but still having the heavy-hitting Javelin when you want it.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Yeah, the Garumba is a lot of fun. Even if it never gets a fleet version I don't see leaving it behind again. I quit using it when 10 console ships came out.Plus simply to play a different style, Bortasqu, Kar'Fi, etc.
But sooooooo Glad I hopped back into the Garumba. If it gets a fleet version I'll be happy for sure. And if new badass Klink ships hit I may just have to finally level a 2nd klink.
It's a cool ship despite its somewhat old-fashioned boff layout...but the lack of a fleet version combined with no evidence that such a thing actually will ever exist sort of renders it a dead-end.
Nice one. I haven't flown my Guramba in ages. I don't think I even have one claimed anymore. But, when I got it, back during the first releases of the Dominion missions, I think, I felt rather powerful. 'I've got Kang!' meant something to me, back then.
I'll be sure to pick one up when they get a Fleet version - hopefully a 5 tac one - to give it a twirl once again. 5x Exploiter consoles with the Lance will be a thing of beauty.

The old cynical KDF player in me is telling me that they won't give us a 5 tac console version. Either it'd be an eng console for a 4/2/4 layout, or a sci console (which would be very dumb IMO) for a 3/3/4 layout.

They did the dumb console layout to the B'Rel, so who knows.
Fleet Guramba has been asked for since the Fleet Shipyard system was implemented. It's still one of our most asked Fleet ship conversions.
Only to see the siege mode of the Garumba in action, the ship is worthy LOL.
Now, seriously, it is one of the ships that is really worked out in all aspects. The animation of the siege mode is flawless, and the javeling does not have any graphic glitch at all (not like other ships, and i am talking for example about the Galaxy x). For me, a ship that has no graphic glitches at all is worthy lol. Seeing that almost 80% of the c-store ships and fleet ships have em.
"Jokes" apart, it is a great ship, an amazing escort, and the weapons layout when its firing its also awesome using cannons. I am also waiting for the fleet version. I only hope cryptic do a good job on it, and they dont give us another even-worst version of the Guramba.
So I just picked up the Gurumba today and I agree with the general sentiment, this ship ROCKS! What makes it even more fun to play for me is that, like all my KDF ships, I bought it by farming dil and using the exchange. I have never spent money on any KDF ship I own, which makes them special to me.
I love how the Gurumba spins and flips around like a ride when switching modes and it's not just a wing opening or something. Imagine lowering the inertial dampers while doing this, it would be a trip. My favorite part is how the siege weapon fires with that energy ball forming before being released in a beam.
I also LOVE how my ship doesn't need a prefix and I can just give it a name with having I.K.S.
My one quibble is that I can't use my veteran ship skin and that like most KDF ships you can't really change the colour of the markings and they look black no matter which design you pick.
The lack of customization for anything on KDF side is the norm. Unlike Fed vessels which often have 2-3 extra "skins," a KDF player should consider himself lucky if he has maybe 1 alternate ship skin to work with. Outside of the BOPs and Battlecruisers, you're S.O.L in customization.

Having found the joy now you know why we wish for a fleet version.

Yep, for a long time I said would never buy one until the fleet version comes out. But the ship sale the other day just said to me 'buy the Gurumba', so I did. Especially with rumors of the fleet version coming out.
That said, the cynic in me still says it won't be a 5 tac console ship, because Zamorak above if the KDF get another ship with that.

While the Guramba is in definite need of a fleet version, with all the Season 9 sets and gear that buffs photons and dirsruptors, this thing has new life.
Undine Deflector with 2PC KHG set, Counter Command Ordinance consoles like the Counter Command Multi-Conduit Energy Relay & Hydrodynamics Compensator plus the Heavy Bio-Molecular Disruptor turret in the back, with you Kinetic cutting beam - through in the Protonic Arsenal stuff to boost your photons (grav torps in my case) even more. Throw in the "Silent Enemy" 2pc with the concole and elachi heavy single cannon if you want also (though it's debatable that the 2pc perk would offset the DPS lost for not using a DHC instead) and let's not forget the Fleet Tac Consoles for Diruptors and crits - I can't tell you how much more I see my Javelin crit now, it's phenomenal. Plus the shortcomings like turn rate in siege-mode are largely a non-factor now thanks to the Dilithium mine Armor/Turn consoles.
My point is that even though it's admittedly dated, the Guramba is still a decent ship made even more so by the current options available to your Season 9 captain.

Equiped mine in allmost similar way (no silent enemy set), and I've seen a Guramba with bio-molecular mines a few days ago, with dispersal patterns seems to work.
Its a great ship and all, but one thing tho I cant understand. Will put alot of ppl in my head but why no KDF player admists the Javelin its way to OP with its ridicoulous low CD. I mean, c'mon, 1 min CD while every other damaging skill out there has 3 mins CD, be it fed or rom? Even if its available in just the siege mode, the Arkiff warbird skill its the same yet even that one has 3 mins CD, even tho its weak and buggy and doesnt even compare with Javelin's power.
I am all for a fleet Guramba, but at least normalize the Javelin's CD to 3 mins, if you actually want balance...

Actually it is already fairly balanced. First you need to transform into attack mode and while this is happening you can not attack, the transformation animation is also fairly lengthy. After you fire the lance you switch back to normal flight which again causes your weapons to go offline. While the lance is charging and firing your weapons are also disabled.
Even after you have transformed into attack mode its not like you can fire the lance right away you have to charge it first. Add all of that together and it takes the same amount of time as the Dreadnoughts spinal lance between discharges. The only difference is the Gal-X doesn't have to go through all the different stages, it just waits for its CD to end.
The guramba is probably going to be my next ship purchase. Definitely a very unique ship, especially because of the combination of the javelin and such a great turn rate. As others have said in this thread, I really hope Cryptic releases a fleet version of this ship.
Anybody have a sweet YouTube video of the guramba in pvp?
Just the title and first post of this thread makes me miss the days when I flew my Guramba regularly.
It's a wonderful ship, even if it's behind the rest of the Fleet ships nowadays. Butt ugly, but kickass.

It just wants to hug your face! That's all! It's not ugly...it's just excited to see you!
Awww how cute. And here I thought the most attractive property of the Guramba was the Death Star laser powerup.

Agreed. I don't care whether the console layout goes 5 tac or not*. A fleet version would finally place this ship on an even playing field with today's fleet ships and lockbox vessels.
*Not to say I don't want 5 tac slots.

The Garumba was never a cruiser, it was a combat siege vessel. 5th tac console or bust.
