well orci has been at this writing/creator/ep since 97, but he only started his film writing in 2005 and this latest trek will be his first time as director of anything. there is only one thing that orci hasnt been a minion to others, Hawaii five-0, he basically wrote that thing from the ground up and CBS gave the green light the other month for a 5th series.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I can't say I'm confident he can deliver. I don't think he's even directed anything at all. Does anyone know?
no he hasnt, but everyone has to start somewhere. if he has sold out when the 3rd crapverse trek is done and it really is that bad, then thats likely to be the end of crapverse once and for all and an end to orci's directorship before it began. but there is a chance some people can surprise still and you may even enjoy the 3rd film and what really made things horrible for 1 and 2 and not 3 if for example, then it was clearly jar jar who made orci look bad, who knows. not stating that as an apologist because the first two were lame ducks. im stating that the film should be waited out until release and see what is there before crucifying him.

DOOOOOOMMMM!!!!! STAR TREK IS DOOMED!!! DOOMED, I SAY!!!
Humor aside, I am not optimistic. JJTrek was bad, mostly because JJ can't direct, choose good actors, film anything well, or otherwise produce a decent movie, but the script was mostly Orci's fault.
More fanboy/girl rage. lol. All Abramsverse films are still better than ST IV and V. Especially V.
JJ's 2 films were so good
He wasnt invited back.........................................
Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng
JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse
Well, jelli, you might have noticed that ol' JJ has another job now. So he's a little too busy to be cranking out more ST films designed primarily to transfer money from our bank accounts to Paramount's.
Orci and Kurtzman were also responsible for the script for the first Michael Bay Transformers movie, as well as the last two Spider-Man outings. They are also listed as executive producers for both of the Abrams Trek movies; I'm uncertain of the significance of this, however, as there were six Executive Producers for them.
All I can say is that if Orci is writing as well as directing, you're probably going to long for the good old days of JJ Abrams...

STIV is one of the best movies. STV, however, is pure TRIBBLE.
JJTrek1 is OK. TRIBBLE, but fun, which is honestly all I wanted or expected (the fun part, not the TRIBBLE part). It was directed well (minus lensflare), had acting that was "fine" at worst, and was...fun.
Star Trek Into Dumbness replaced all the fun of the first one with retardation, on top of the retardation of the first one. Well, not all the fun: the first scene was in the vein of the first movie, which was fine. Bad movie, fighting for second-worst with Nemesis (only Cumberbund brings it up from stealing absolute worst from STV).
All of the bad in the two movies is due to the writing. I was starting to have hope for the new movie, since there is going to be a new writing staff, but if Orci is directing, I might not even see it. Orci helped kill Transformers, and tried his hardest to kill Trek (Abrams and the actors were mostly able to salvage the first movie, unlike Bay with Transformers). He might do it this time.
I feel obligated to point out that Orci was also one of the writers for Transformers: Prime, which I think is pretty well written.
Also considering that I enjoyed the Abrams films (somewhat), I'm cautiously optimistic.
He can't be as bad as Abrams.
EDIT: Looking at Orci's IMDB page, he does seem to have been involved in some really good films, as well as some really bad ones, so we'll have to see what he's like in the Director's chair...
With a not-so-subtle dose of sex appeal and almost no real character development for the Autobots and absolutely none for the Decepticons.
Also, Female Terminator Decepticon in TF2.
They're fun movies, but I'd still rather watch the original G1 animated film.
I actually liked the Decepticon Terminator Sexbot in TF2.
And the blatant sexploitation and lack of character development is not bad, in context. These are movies where you shut off your brain and watch the explosions, and the best part is that they don't even try to be higher art than that like JJTrek does.
Maybe not something to watch repeatedly, but at least the action is good. And Michael Bay can REALLY film dramatic explosions.

Funny story, I watched the trailer for Battleship on TV, and I jokingly said 'oh, this must be a Michael Bay film' before it even showed his name.
For me, Transformers as a franchise is supposed to be a bit more than just shutting off your brain. Ironically, I loved TF2 just because it seemed to develop the characters a lot more. So maybe they're not really my film.
As for the Terminator-con, clearly we have different tastes...

--Heh, same here.
--OK. That's fine. For me, it's about Optimus Prime (yay!) fighting Megatron (boo! hiss!) and winning dramatically as All Hope Is Lost through courage and heroism.
Thanks Iconians. That was too dangerous to watch, and drink hot coffee at the same time.It was also nostalgic, I saw Insurection on the big screen with my dad when it came out, and all he did was point out how stupid it was...he is a big Star Trek fan as well.Ever see a man in his early 60's have Nerd rage? Not pretty man.....:D

RedLetterMedia has a great portfolio of Mr. Plinkett tearing apart many of the Star Trek movies, including the new ones.
It's really a good perspective on how the movies were always bad. So whether one kind of director/writer is more bad than another is kind of a moot point when you're talking about an established history of bad Star Trek movies.
And yes, do not watch his reviews while drinking hot coffee or anything that might ruin your monitor or keyboard.
I just hope ST3 puts Spock back in the Prime universe. Leonard Nimoy is not getting any younger and it'd suck hardcore for Spock to "die" in an alternate timeline and require CBS to do something insane like transplant Quinto-Spock to replace Spock in STO.

Spock in STO is dead. We all believed he died getting sucked into a black hole anomaly after trying to save Romulus and Remus from destruction.
He narrates the sector blocks in-character, but narration has never meant the character is still alive, as proved in numerous movies, television shows, and video games.
Quinto is already in STO anyway, he plays a holographic doctor in the tutorial who sounds a lot like Spock.
Honestly, just let Leonard Nimoy enjoy retirement. He's done more than enough for the franchise.

Which would mean it will be a great Star Trek movie.
Was something wrong with Insurrection (besides the few obvious plot holes).

Trials of Blood and Fire
Moving On Parts 1-3 - Part 4
In Cold Blood
Dude, he's half of the reason that made Abrams look as bad as he did. The other half is called Kurtzman.
Well, he can't be as bad as Michael Bay.
And before you say anything; Pearl Harbour.
Trials of Blood and Fire
Moving On Parts 1-3 - Part 4

Eh, that was a bad one, sure. But the Transformers movies are fun enough, especially if you mute the dialogue in non-action scenes.
Bay at least stuck to the soul of the franchise, which is "Optimus Prime fights Megatron and wins because of courage and heroism."

I'll just leave this here. (NSFW Warning)
Best Part: Picard's Double Standard where he switches places with Wesley Crusher from "Journey's End" for this movie.
